the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart

Chapter 1527 - 1514: Why Haven’t I Gotten Pregnant?

  • Next Chapter

Chloe Winston went back to her room and skimmed through the script Kyla Zamora had sent over. She did some math on her little private stash; after buying the house, renovating it, and paying the penalty for the variety show, the only money she had left was the pay from the latest film she’d shot. All in all, it barely added up to six million.

She understood the saying "sit around and you’ll eat through a mountain," and being with Constantine Stewart also came with more pressure. She didn’t want to rely on him for everything, so making a comeback to film and earn money was the top priority.

When Constantine walked in wearing pajamas, he saw the little girl sprawled under the covers, looking at the script. She read as she nodded off, her head bobbing like a chick pecking at rice, eyes practically unable to stay open.

The man moved the script out from under her head, got into bed, shifted her little head onto his solid, toned abdomen, and began rubbing her hair like he was petting a cat. In a low voice, he asked, "Want to make money?"

Chloe knew he’d come in, but she was insanely sleepy. She just nodded, not opening her eyes.

"Then tomorrow go do a game endorsement for Illusion World." Constantine’s eyes held a smile. Illusion World was insanely popular; the person in charge had been pushing for an ad endorsement forever. Constantine hadn’t taken it to heart, just let his people handle it. Yesterday, seeing her play the game, he suddenly thought of this.

Seeing that she was really about to pass out, Constantine turned off the lights, pulled her into his arms, lay down, and went to sleep. As for sleeping in separate rooms, they could talk about that later.

Chloe slept incredibly hot that night, feeling like there was a little furnace on her body, making her sweat all over. Her hands and feet refused to cooperate, like something heavy was pinning her down. Then she dreamed a lot—she dreamed she was back in the little alley behind the orphanage, playing house with the older kids, and a cute little munchkin kept following behind her, calling out, "Mommy, Mommy."

Chloe jolted awake from fright. When she opened her eyes, the man still hadn’t gotten up. His handsome, jade-like face was buried at her neck, tangled up with her in intimacy, and his chest pressed on hers so much she was a little short of breath.

"Constantine Stewart." She reached out and pushed him, asking, "Those years we were married, we were having sex all the time. How come I never got pregnant?"

Was it her who had a problem or him? Chloe was more inclined to believe it was Constantine, for no particular reason.

His movements paused. He lifted his head, sexy hair falling down, kissed her little face, and said hoarsely, "Because I don’t want kids. I had a procedure done. Baby, if you could get pregnant, then I’d be wearing a whole meadow on my head."

Chloe: "..."

Chloe stared wide-eyed, incredulous. "How come you never said anything?"

"You never asked, did you?" He smiled lazily, elegant as ever right in front of her. Seeing her look like a stunned little goose, his smile deepened. Back then he’d avoided kids like they were the plague, and seeing how young she was, he’d gone and had a minor surgery himself. It had already been reversed, though, and these days they hadn’t been using protection. If nothing unexpected happened, there should be good news in the next month or two.

But Constantine wasn’t going to bring this up on his own. After all, he still needed to rely on a kid to secure his position; better to wait until everything was foolproof before talking.

Chloe thought of that adorable little munchkin in her dream, tugging at her hem and trotting happily after her, and her little face dimmed a bit. So he still didn’t want kids? Considering they weren’t actually husband and wife now anyway, not having children was also fine.

Seeing her listless look, remembering how she’d just brought up kids and now could barely be bothered with him, Constantine thought, So...she wants a child?

In a very good mood, he said in a low voice, "We’ve been cooped up at home for a week over the New Year. I’ll take you to Paris to relax a bit, hmm?"

"Paris?" Chloe was stunned for a moment. Constantine wanted to take her out on a trip to unwind?

"The group has a board meeting at the start of the year. I’ll have to be there for at least a week, so we might as well make it a trip too, hmm? You’ve never been to Paris, right?" As he spoke, Constantine lowered his head and kissed her, and the kiss left the little girl with no energy to think the matter through. And just like that, the business trip to Paris was decided.

Chloe spent the whole day feeling mediocre, like something was just a bit off, until the official person in charge at Illusion World called her.

"Is this Miss Chloe Winston? I’m Henry Lincoln, the person in charge of Illusion World Game. Our game wants to find an endorser. I watched your game livestream and feel you’re extremely suitable to be our spokesperson. I wonder if you’d be interested?" Henry asked very respectfully. Early that morning he’d received a call from the special assistant saying Mr. Stewart wanted Chloe to endorse the game, and the good news had hit him so hard he was a little dizzy.

Chloe’s traffic in the Entertainment Sector was top-tier. Add to that her "One-Night White-Hair" game account, which on the Illusion World forum was at ancient-god level. If they could get Chloe to endorse them, the hype would explode. Their game would become even more popular.

"Game endorsement?" Chloe froze for a second. She’d stopped taking endorsement deals, but a game endorsement... and for a game she actually played.

"Yes, yes, yes, if you have any requirements, just bring them up. The endorsement fee is negotiable. This time we want a player as spokesperson. You’re not just our player, you’re a god-tier player, and also a top star in the Entertainment Sector. You’re more suitable than anyone else." Henry was this close to blurting out, The boss has spoken—name your terms, we’ll meet them all.

Henry thought back to the open beta period. Everyone else was still fumbling around, while Chloe played like she had cheat codes, repeatedly exposing internal rules. Add in the boss personally filming a variety show and rumors of a scandal with Chloe, and now he’d even personally named her as the endorser. Even if Henry had a pig’s brain, he could guess that her relationship with the boss was... not to be spoken of.

Chloe was a little tempted, but this game was Constantine Stewart’s project. She didn’t know if having her endorse it was Constantine’s idea or the game company’s.

"I’ll think about it."

"Alright, Miss Winston, then I’ll give your agent a call to brief her on this? We’re coming to you with the utmost sincerity, and we hope you’ll really consider it." Henry didn’t dare say too much more and hurriedly called Chloe’s agent, planning to attack from both sides.

After hanging up, Chloe went to the little garden to find Constantine. After the second day of the New Year, the snow had stopped; seven days of melting had left only a bit of snow clinging on.

Constantine was wearing loungewear and slippers, standing on the warm stone path in the small garden, looking at the greenhouse that had been set up. He felt it was great: it could block wind and rain, and in summer it could shield the sun, really quite nice. He was thinking maybe they shouldn’t dismantle it for now.

"Constantine, Illusion World wants me to be their game spokesperson." Chloe was still hugging a fluffy ball in her arms, excitedly trotting over in her slippers.

Seeing her tug at his clothes, totally different from her earlier listless mood, Constantine’s gaze deepened slightly and he laughed. "That’s a pretty good thing. Don’t you really like playing games?"

"Was it your idea?" Chloe tilted her little face up with some suspicion and asked.

Mr. Stewart arched a brow and said blandly, "You think I handle those little game companies personally? Didn’t you do a game livestream before? And lately your film is blazing hot. If they want an endorser, of course they’d come to you first."

Hearing that it wasn’t his idea, Chloe immediately felt relieved. She was taking this game endorsement!

Chloe called Kyla Zamora, but Kyla was on a call at the moment—probably discussing the endorsement with the game company.

Half an hour later, Kyla called back.

"Chloe, there’s a game endorsement. Do you want to take it? The endorsement fee is fifty million."

Fifty million? Chloe was a bit stunned, practically knocked silly by the fee.
