the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart

Chapter 1517 - 1506: No Sleeping In, Time to Visit Relatives

  • Next Chapter

Chloe was woken up by Constantine’s kiss the next day. The man was only wearing a silk robe, his bare chest exuding sensuality as he leaned over her, kissing tenderly. Seeing her stir, he chuckled in his deep voice, "We can’t sleep in today, we have to visit relatives."

Chloe finally started to wake up, and after a few more kisses from him, she remembered it was the second day of the New Year. She also recalled how somehow last night they ended up in bed together, feeling both regretful and shy.

Between them was just a tangled mess; over the past year, she had faced him with coldness at every turn, yet her body was honest. Now, having ended up in bed, it seemed they were truly reconciled.

She simply preferred not to think about those past events anymore.

"Let’s get up, then." She buried her face under the covers, speaking hoarsely.

"Alright." Constantine got out of bed smoothly. He had already woken up earlier but had just dozed off again, with thoughts of marriage, kids, and a stable life running through his mind. After thinking it over all night, he was feeling energized, perhaps due to the vision he now had for the future, shifting from the lethargy and laxness of the past few months.

After washing up, Chloe was the softer sort with others, even softer herself. Constantine knew he was still in the observation period, though he used to habitually treat her like a little girl to be managed. Now, he really appreciated her, preferring to let her manage him, and truly regarded her as his wife.

Once tidied up, they directly carried the gifts prepared the night before and first went to the Shaw Family to pay a New Year’s visit.

The Shaw Family was lively on the first day of the New Year, with all the extended relatives coming to pay respects, but on the second day it was quieter, with only Chloe and Constantine coming over.

Because Leah was pregnant, she was very sleepy every day and hadn’t yet risen at this hour, whereas Richard Shaw had already gotten up and was accompanying Constantine for conversation, while Chloe was chatting with the elderly lady. Seeing the old lady, age showing, wearing reading glasses and sewing intimate items for her little granddaughter together with Aunt Li, Chloe felt quite touched.

She thought a lady from the Shaw Family like this was indeed deserving of her influential legacy in the Imperial City, strong in holding up the family reputation and nurturing descendants like Vice Admiral Nathaniel Shaw, while also being gentle and meticulous, personally crafting all kinds of granddaughter’s items early on. Having an elder in the family truly was a treasure.

A real aristocratic family, ultimately, couldn’t be comparable to the shallow roots of nouveau riche.

Once breakfast was ready over at the kitchen, Chloe and Constantine had breakfast at the Shaw Family. The meal was abundant, catering to various tastes.

"I remember Constantine didn’t like sweet things, but now he enjoys them like Chloe does." The old lady observed Chloe and Constantine having similar dietary habits and laughed, "You resemble an old married couple; even your tastes are becoming similar."

Only then did Chloe notice several dishes on the table that she indeed loved, and she glanced at Constantine.

The man casually explained, "Maybe it’s out of habit; gradually, I’ve come to like these dishes you enjoy."

Chloe’s cheeks warmed up slightly, immersing herself in her meal.

The old lady on the side laughed, "Eat slowly; this is a good thing, making life easier for your chef in the future."

The meal proceeded with a warmth and normalcy, as over the year, Constantine had interacted more with the Shaw Family, treating them as his own, feeling much more at ease.

After the meal, Constantine briefly mentioned to the old lady that he and Chloe planned to visit the orphanage.

"It is time to go see them; I won’t keep you for lunch, come back in the afternoon and have dinner before returning home. No need to light the stove at home again." The old lady smiled and said, "It snowed heavily last night, making the roads difficult to travel. Let the driver take you."

"There’s no need, I’ll drive slowly." Constantine smiled, then led Chloe to bid farewell and head to the orphanage.

Richard Shaw escorted them to the door, and upon returning inside saw Leah awake. Being six months pregnant, Leah’s belly was already showing, and the food from the kitchen was prepared separately for her. She sat down to breakfast, chatting with the old lady.

"That girl from Winston Family is indeed quite pitiable. I didn’t originally know her background was like that." The old lady sat by the table, expressing her sentiments, "Leah, you don’t mind, do you?"

"When things happened back then, she hadn’t even been born yet, and she lost her mother at birth. Later, her father couldn’t raise her, so she was sent to the orphanage, enduring much hardship over the years. Her father wasn’t directly involved in the events between Nathaniel Shaw and the two families, yet was implicated. Grandma, you’re not bothered by it, so naturally, I won’t be." Leah smiled gently, having heard about Chloe’s background from Richard Shaw early on, merely feeling a sigh at the capriciousness of fate. It turned out their families were all acquainted over generations. As for those intertwined grievances and vendettas, one couldn’t unravel them, and neither did she have any intent to fuss over them.
