the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1494 - 1484: Why Recklessly Seek Trouble?
Now that she had information and photos of her parents, Delphine’s temperament became even more tenacious. She planned to finish shooting this film, get the payment, and then, after graduating next year, go back to live in her parents’ ancestral hometown.
Seeing that there was finally a bit of light in her eyes and that she ate a few more bites at dinner, Constantine Stewart felt genuinely relieved. After dinner, the man rolled up his sleeves and went to wash the dishes, meticulous as ever.
Although a housekeeper would come to clean up the next day, Constantine Stewart was a neat freak. If he left things lying around, he might not sleep all night. Besides, he could score some points in front of the young girl—after all, he was a man who could do housework.
Seeing him go wash the dishes, Delphine hugged a throw pillow and went to the small backyard garden, then called Kyla Zamora.
"You’re quitting the Entertainment Sector after this film?" Kyla Zamora almost bit her tongue in shock when she got the call, and hurriedly asked, "Del, don’t let the stuff online get to you. Didn’t the scandal already get cleared up?"
"What scandal?" Delphine froze for a moment.
Realizing Delphine didn’t know, Kyla was the one who had slipped up. Fortunately the matter was already resolved, so she told her everything that had happened today: "Mr. Stewart stepped in. It should be Rory Evans who was smearing you from behind the scenes. I just got off the phone with Zane Jiang—Rory’s former agent has already been detained and is being sued, and they’re going to dig up Rory’s criminal record as well.
This move was big enough that no one in the Entertainment Sector would be blind enough to mess with you now. Your future career is basically an open, flourishing highway. With such a great opportunity, why would you want to quit?"
Kyla Zamora sighed with emotion. One after another they were all leaving the Entertainment Sector—Delphine was heading off to take over corporate affairs, to get married and have kids. Delphine was still so young; how could she be so unwilling to think it through? What about all those high-end endorsements? What about all those great scripts?
Kyla’s brows were knotted with worry.
Delphine paused at her words, her attention caught by Rory Evans’s situation. She thought of how the Stewart Family’s mother and son had indeed gone after Rory yesterday afternoon. But how could Rory be stupid enough to go head-to-head with Constantine Stewart? No—that woman’s target had been her. Even if she forced Delphine to quit the industry, Rory was still doomed to be blacklisted. Sometimes Delphine really couldn’t figure out how Rory’s brain worked.
In the end they had both come from the same orphanage, with the bond of growing up together. Even if Rory ruined her, what good would it do Rory?
"What’s going to happen to her?" Hugging the soft pillow in her arms, Delphine watched the daylight sink into the gaps between the trees. Dusk was closing in. She asked in a low voice.
"Hard to say. Ever since the video of her being kept by a sugar daddy broke online, her background got exposed too, and all kinds of shady things from before she changed her name have been dug up. The rich businessman who kept her is said to have some clout, and his wife publicly swore she’d kill her. She probably doesn’t even dare leave the house right now." Kyla Zamora sighed. "She was fine, but insisted on courting death."
"Sis, my relationship with Constantine Stewart is way too complicated, and now this happened on top of it. I want to take an indefinite break after this movie wraps." Delphine said softly. Her desire for fame and money wasn’t strong. Now that she had a place to live, and the pay from this film was enough for her to start a small business, even if she didn’t work for five or ten years, the pressure wouldn’t be too big.
"Have you told Delphine about this?"
"Before Delphine left the Imperial City, we talked about it. She said she supported my idea."
"Then just take a break for now. Maybe after a while you’ll change your mind." Looking at the mountain of invitations and endorsement offers piled on her desk, Kyla Zamora let out a long sigh. The ones who are red-hot to the point of glowing are the ones wanting to quit, while the ones squeezing their way into the industry head-first are dying without ever making it big.
Having told Kyla Zamora her plans, Delphine immediately felt as if the heaviest matter on her mind had been set down, and went upstairs to continue reading the script.
On this side the weather was calm and pleasant; on Rory Evans’s side it was tsunamis and earthquakes, a complete mess. When the incident broke, Brother Yu called her, saying he was being watched and telling her to hurry and give him money so he could run.
Terrified, Rory Evans hurriedly packed up her important cash and valuables, disguised herself, and left her residence. As soon as she stepped out, she saw that the gated villa community where she lived was surrounded by reporters. A video from more than a year ago had exploded online, along with a video of her being beaten half to death by that woman. Every kind of previously hidden scandal came down like a tidal wave, nearly drowning her.
A year ago, she had nearly been disfigured from a beating by the legal wife, and had fled back to the Imperial City to lie low. With nowhere to go, she thought of the orphanage she’d been in as a child and went back to take a look, only to learn about Delphine by chance, which made her hatch an idea.
Back then Delphine had been too young. When Rory was adopted, Delphine had only been around four or five, too little to remember anything. Even if Rory said the Jade Pendant had been a gift from her, no one would know otherwise.
Life in the orphanage back then had been chaotic. The older kids often robbed the little ones of their things; no one could say clearly which thing belonged to whom. Sure enough, Delphine didn’t remember her childhood and really believed the Jade Pendant was hers.
She just hadn’t expected that after only a year of enjoying a life of luxury, the Stewart Family’s mother and son would be trying to force her to death. Rory Evans shivered. Before she fled back to the Imperial City, she had swindled a huge sum of money from her sugar daddy.
The video had to have been taken from that fat bastard. He always had a fetish for recording sex videos. Whether it landed in his hands or his wife’s, things would never end well for her. It was impossible for her to stay in the country. She had to go abroad, and she needed a lot of money to lie low overseas.
Rory Evans blanched with fright. The money she’d earned this past year had almost all been squandered by her, and there wasn’t much left. The villa still had a large mortgage on it. She couldn’t take the house with her, nor could she sell it off.
Right now she had to get a sum of money. Thinking of how she had ended up like this all thanks to Delphine, Rory’s expression twisted, and she called one of the girls from the crew of "The Bird and the Leaf."

Early the next morning, Delphine turned down Constantine Stewart’s offer to drive her to set, and went straight to the studio city in her own nanny van with her assistant.
The past two days had been a complete storm. If Constantine Stewart showed up at her crew again, who knew what kind of uproar it would cause.
When Delphine arrived on set, she saw that everyone in the crew was talking about Rory Evans. Rory had offended quite a few people before, and now that such a huge scandal had broken, practically everyone wanted a piece of her.
Fortunately, no one online had exposed her connection with Rory. Delphine kept silent and said nothing.
They filmed until noon, then broke for lunch. While Little Qiu went to get her meal, a not‑so‑familiar actress from the crew came over and said with a smile, "Delphine, there’s a girl named Lisa waiting for you in the makeup room. She said it’s not convenient for her to come find you herself, and asked me to pass on the message."
Delphine paused for a second. Lisa was here to see her? She glanced at the people bustling around on set. It didn’t seem like anything would happen, so she nodded and headed for the crew’s makeup room.
