Chapter 1486 - 1476: I Will Take Good Care of You in Their Place

When Constantine Stewart received the call, he was still at his private residence on Fulham Road. Hearing her voice soft and vaguely choking, without saying a word, his handsome face instantly darkened. He grabbed the car keys and headed out with slippers on to get the car.

"Chloe, give the phone to a passerby near you." The man instructed in a low voice.

"Hello, this is ** Road. This young lady might be feeling unwell, she can’t speak." A kind passerby answered the phone, seeing Chloe squatting by the road, her face unclear and unrecognizable.

"Please look after her for me, I’m driving over now. Don’t hang up the phone." The voice on the other end of the line was exceptionally deep, carrying the intimidation of someone accustomed to being in high positions. Originally just intending to answer the phone, the passerby was stunned into nodding, obediently standing by Chloe, suddenly feeling like he was entrusted with a mission by a big boss.

Constantine Stewart speeded all the way over, taking only twenty minutes, immediately spotting the young girl squatting in a small corner on the street, like an abandoned stray dog. At this sight, his chest felt a pang of tearing pain.

"Miss, are you feeling better? Do you need me to call 120?" The kind passerby held the phone without hanging up, afraid the young girl would faint. Every few minutes he talked to her, even though she only shook her head, there was at least a response.

The passerby continued to chat idly with her, then widened his eyes at the sapphire blue supercar roaring up in front, the car stopping right before him. A refined, handsome, extraordinary man got out, reached out to pick up the young girl, kissed her hair, and soothed in a low voice, "Be good, hubby will take you home."

Seeing that the young girl didn’t resist, the passerby confirmed it was the man from the call, immediately feeling a bit awkward holding the phone, taking two steps forward and saying, "Sir, this is the young lady’s phone from earlier."

Constantine Stewart placed Chloe in the passenger seat, then turned to the passerby, showing a gentle smile, softly thanking him, "Thank you, if you have any difficulties, call the number on it, find my assistant."

"You’re welcome, I just randomly answered a call." The passerby, upon seeing the high-end car the other drove, the expensive clothes, and the commanding presence, quickly waved with a smile, feeling slightly excited inside. Did he accidentally help a rich second generation?

Leaving a business card behind, Constantine got in the car, noticing the young girl curled up silently in the passenger seat, dumb and lost, doing whatever is asked like she has lost her soul. Suddenly, he reached out and patted her head, driving directly back to Spring Prosperity Garden.

Instinctively feeling Chloe might prefer returning to her own little nest.

The car drove back to Spring Prosperity Garden, Constantine carried Chloe inside, placing her on the sofa, then fetched a warm towel to wipe her somewhat reddened eyes.

Chloe felt everything along the way but did not want to move or speak. Seeing the man place the warm towel on her eyes, her vision went dark. She grew a bit anxious, reaching out to grab his clothes, feeling him kiss her cheek.

"I’ve found out." She spoke, her voice hoarse beyond imagination, her throat uncomfortably parched.

Constantine paused his actions, then sat down, pressing her head into his lap, continuing to warm her eyes, asking in a deep voice, "What have you found out?"

"That Jade Pendant." Her voice had a slight tremor, pulled into the man’s embrace, feeling warmth from his chest, her body finally felt a bit warm, the limbs tingling with numbness.

"Don’t speak; I’ll fetch you some water." Constantine frowned, hearing discomfort in her voice, rose to get water.

Chloe grabbed his clothes, his movement froze, then he sat back down, touching the back of her head, a trace of gloomy anger flashed in his eyes. He roughly guessed that her abnormality must be due to knowing something. Now, besides his birth mother, there’s no one else who could inform her about her origins.

"My mother loves to deceive to achieve her goals; her words can’t be trusted. Whatever you want to know, just ask me." The man spoke lowly, warming her small hand. Despite the season of golden autumn, her hands were icy.

"Are my parents still alive?" Chloe felt the towel too hot, eyes stinging.

Constantine was silent for a moment, then softly spoke, "You are part of the Stewart Family now, Chloe. When I adopted you, you assumed a new identity. Don’t delve into the past; your parents wanted you to live without burdens."

Chloe was silent, attempting to leave his embrace. The man increased the grip of his palm, sighed helplessly, and softly said, "Don’t be angry; I’ll tell you slowly."

Long pain is better than short pain; now that it’s come to this, Constantine’s gaze deepened, huskily said, "Your mother bled to death when she gave birth to you, and your father passed away from illness. Later, during Qingming and Winter Solstice, I’ll take you to visit their graves. Your father sent you to the orphanage hoping you’d live without any past and peacefully."

At the time of those events, the Shaw Family, such a prestigious family, was equivalent to cutting off its own arms, so tragic, let alone other prominent families. Although Chloe’s father wasn’t greatly implicated and survived, the stigma on his forehead couldn’t be removed. After enduring for years, until he faced destitution, the family impoverished, Chloe’s mother bled to death after a difficult labor, couldn’t afford the surgery fees, died during childbirth, Chloe’s father, overwhelmed with despair, sent the child anonymously to the orphanage’s doorstep, then returned to end his life.

These things happened when his father already died inadvertently, and he was only ten years old. If it weren’t for his mother’s return to the Imperial City, Constantine intended to take these hidden truths to the grave.

After finishing, Constantine felt the young girl buried herself in his lap, body lightly quivering, silently crying, warm tears soaking his clothes.

His gaze deepened, holding her tighter, gently soothing, "Chloe, your parents loved you. I’ll care for you well in their stead."

Chloe was silent, tightly gripping his clothes, crying quietly. She thought she was an abandoned child, unloved. Turns out it’s not a lack of love, but an inability to love. Such a heavy past, like a disgraceful imprint, they simply had no choice but to send her to the orphanage.

Chloe cried sorrowfully, as if venting twenty-plus years of grievances, crying until her spirit weakened, lethargically falling into sleep.

Constantine carried her to the bedroom upstairs, changed her into sleepwear, wiped her face and hands with a warm towel, covered her with the blanket, and gazed at her intently.

The man stood for a long time before rising, standing on the balcony, his face somber, making a call to his mother.
