the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1478 - 1468: He Leaned In and Kissed Her Soft Lips
The farewell gathering for Delphine and Ignatius Leclair in the evening was quite lively, with a group of young heirs letting loose and having fun. Due to prior surgery, Ignatius couldn’t drink, so he brought Constantine Stewart over to shield him from alcohol.
Constantine then went to pull Richard Shaw. No one dared to push Richard to drink; with his poker face, a scowl from him would mean trouble for them all the next day. So, everyone kept pouring drinks for Constantine, and he ended up drinking most of it.
Luckily, Constantine could hold his liquor well, his flushed face hiding the extent of his drunkenness.
While the men were drinking, the women gathered to chat intimately. Chloe Winston felt a bit nostalgic about Delphine, knowing she’d either be in London or returning to the South Seas, and likely wouldn’t stay in Imperial City, making her feel a bit melancholic.
"When Tré grows a bit older, we’ll bring him back. We’ll gather again, just the same," Delphine comforted the young girl.
Leah, on the other hand, wasn’t concerned. She had always been free-spirited, going wherever she wished, so she nodded and laughed, "Isn’t that right? Delphine isn’t gone for good. The key is the three of you who are still single. Chloe is young, but Lana Shaw and you, Calliope Shaw, aren’t exactly young either."
"Oh, sister-in-law, don’t be like my mom. For the past two years, whenever the elders meet us, it’s always about this topic. I’m about ready to leave and become a nun," Calliope Shaw laughed from the side.
"I’ve got a scoop: Calliope goes on dates every day. She has someone," Lana Shaw teased from the side.
"What kind of situation do I have? I think Chloe’s the one with something going on. Earlier at the card table, Constantine Stewart lost millions, and when Chloe stopped playing, he did too," Calliope teased Chloe. "When are you two getting married?"
Lana and Calliope didn’t know about Chloe and Constantine’s situation, assuming they were seeing each other.
"I’m not really compatible with Constantine Stewart," Chloe smiled faintly, revealing two small dimples. Recently, everyone talked about her and Constantine, and she sometimes felt unsteady, thinking there might be something there. But whenever she regained her senses, she felt icy cold all over. She didn’t want to go through another dark half-year; no matter how good Constantine is, she couldn’t handle it.
Seeing her say this, Lana and Calliope stopped mentioning it. Soon, the men had drunk enough, and Vice Admiral Shaw came over to support Leah, taking her home, while Ignatius came to pick up Delphine.
Everyone parted in small groups.
Constantine drank the most, so Chloe called for a driver and then stayed with him in the car, waiting for the driver to arrive.
Chloe got out of the car, waiting in the night breeze, brushing her windblown hair. The car door opened, and the handsome man’s flushed face, bright eyes, reached out and pulled her hand, drawing her into the car. His grip strong, even though he was heavily drunk, he carefully supported her waist as he half-dragged, half-embraced her into the vehicle.
"What are you doing?" Chloe’s expression changed slightly; they hadn’t had physical contact for a long time, especially with him touching her sensitive waist.
"It’s windy; you’ll get cold." His voice, drenched in alcohol, emitted a light scent, sounding deeply hoarse, as his gaze was brighter than the cold night stars.
Chloe paused, then saw him rest his head on her shoulder, burying his face there, closing his eyes to sleep, his large hand unconsciously gripping her wrist, and croaked, "Be good, darling. Your husband is tired; he wants to sleep."
"Constantine Stewart?" Chloe sat dazed in the backseat, reaching out to gently push him. The man murmured, "Be good, don’t cause trouble."
Then he leaned in and kissed her thin lips, the alcohol-laced kiss lingering passionately.
