the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1475 - 1465: Meeting the Boyfriend in Name Only
"Take out your phone, let me see." Constantine Stewart’s eyes lowered to her rosy cherry lips, his gaze sliding down to pause on her cute, pointed chin. Remembering the taste of biting her in the past, his voice unconsciously turned a bit husky.
"Huh?" Chloe Winston was momentarily surprised, then reached for her phone and handed it to him.
The man’s slender fingers quickly tapped open WeChat, sweeping a glance for any rival’s messages. His expression darkened as he found out Charles Taylor had arranged to meet with her and also saw Finnian’s messages, which were just routine chat logs. Constantine Stewart’s lips pressed down, noting the time and place for their meeting before finally checking the text messages.
After a moment, he returned the phone to Chloe Winston, seeing her looking adorably dazed. He reached out to touch her pearly little face, quickly retracting his hand, and said, "No need to go, just pretend she doesn’t exist."
Chloe Winston realized after a moment that Constantine Stewart was referring to her mother, feeling a bit surprised. It seemed that the mother-son relationship was worse than she had imagined.
"Come on, let’s sit on that bench ahead for a while." Constantine Stewart pulled her by the wrist, feeling through her clothes how astonishingly slender it was, frowning slightly. Is acting so exhausting?
There were many wooden benches by the lakeside. In the evening, the residents of the community came out to exercise. Fortunately, the light wasn’t too bright, so they weren’t recognized and sat by the lake, enjoying the breeze.
"When we got married back then, I never took you back to Paris to meet my family because my relationship with the Stewart Family was terrible. After my father passed away, my grandfather soon fell ill and died, leaving most of the assets to me. So my uncles never wished for my peaceful growth." The man spoke quietly, gazing deeply into the distance as if talking about someone else’s affairs, "If I died, they could reclaim the vast majority of the Stewart Family’s assets, so when my mother abused me, they always watched indifferently."
Chloe Winston listened with a sense of shock, her back involuntarily straightening, as she watched his refined and handsome profile.
"Chloe, I stayed in the Imperial City because I didn’t know where else to go or where my home would be." Constantine Stewart said self-mockingly, "I was wrong before, don’t hate me, and don’t blame me. I’ll change."
Chloe Winston fell silent, withdrew her hand, and said softly, "I don’t hate you, I just want to start a new life."
Hearing this, Constantine Stewart’s body subtly stiffened, realizing that her so-called new life didn’t include him. He squinted slightly, a gleam of something passing through his eyes; he seemed to have been too hasty and needed to slow down the pace.
"Okay, I’ll respect your choice, but my mother will probably go to the villa every day during this period, so can I stay at your place temporarily?" The man asked in a low voice, with a glimmer of hope in his eyes as he looked at her.
Chloe Winston instinctively nodded.
Constantine Stewart showed a satisfied smile, stood up elegantly, and said, "The wind is strong, let’s go back and rest early."
It was only when Chloe Winston was hit by the cold wind that she realized what she had agreed to and instantly regretted, wanting to kick herself. But seeing Constantine Stewart rarely smile, she couldn’t bring herself to voice her regret.
Early the next day, Chloe Winston was still groggy when she heard some noise outside. Though the voices were hushed, she was a light sleeper and was easily awakened by the disturbance.
Chloe Winston rubbed her eyes and went downstairs to find Constantine Stewart, wearing casual running clothes, directing people to arrange exquisite plants in the small garden, with also an oversized suitcase in the living room.
Chloe Winston: "..."
"What are you doing?" Chloe Winston saw the housekeeper still moving things into the house, her eyes widening as she restrained her temper and asked the evidently just-finished-running Constantine Stewart.
"Just moving in some plants and bringing a set of tea ware." Constantine Stewart said as he beckoned to her, "Go brush your teeth and wash up, then come have breakfast. Starting tomorrow, join me for a run."
After speaking, the man quickly had everyone leave, and soon the living room was left with just the two of them, staring at each other.
Chloe Winston: "..."
"Do you have plans to go out today? If not, I notice your home is missing quite a bit of furniture, we could buy it now, and I’ll help you move it in." The man, standing by the dining table and setting breakfast, said softly while glancing downward.
Chloe Winston suddenly remembered her appointment with Charles Taylor today. Seeing that she had slept past ten o’clock, she hurriedly said, "No need, I have things to do today. You go ahead and eat."
Seeing her rush upstairs to freshen up, Constantine Stewart furrowed his well-defined brows and sat down to elegantly eat breakfast. So she was just going to see Charles Taylor, but he had already noted the time and place, chuckling to himself.
After quickly downing a cup of soy milk and eating a sandwich, Chloe Winston hurriedly went out, arriving just in time for the appointment, without being late.
They had arranged to meet at a very private café. By the time Chloe Winston arrived, Charles Taylor was already there, sporting a hat and sunglasses and waiting at a booth. As it was noon, the café wasn’t crowded, and Charles Taylor had chosen the most secluded corner, not drawing much attention.
"Mr. Taylor, when did you arrive?" Chloe Winston quietly crept to the corner, took off her sunglasses, and said cheerfully, "I wasn’t late, was I?"
"No, I was just early." Charles Taylor, seeing her simple attire of a T-shirt and short skirt, closed his laptop and smiled gently, "Chloe, how have you been lately?"
"Pretty good, I’m getting ready to shoot the second film, and will start filming in a few days." As an attendant approached, Chloe Winston quickly donned her sunglasses again and ordered a coffee.
"No need to worry, this café is under my name, and no information will be leaked." Charles Taylor, seeing her cautious demeanor, found it amusing yet slightly bitter. He wished their coffee meeting would be discovered; sometimes, after many rumors, even the involved parties begin to believe them.
"That’s a relief, otherwise there’d be misunderstandings." Chloe Winston laughed, feeling no pressure meeting with Charles Taylor. Without thinking, she displayed the playful side of her personality.
"Sister Zhao mentioned you want to terminate the contract? As far as I know, Constantine Stewart continues to hound you, so if we publicly end the contract, won’t he become even more aggressive?" Charles Taylor cautiously brought it up. Yesterday, Chloe Winston and Constantine Stewart attended Vice Admiral Xie’s wedding banquet together, though he wasn’t there. Now, there was much online speculation about them breaking up, and with Chloe wanting to cancel her contract with him, Charles Taylor couldn’t help but wonder if Chloe was truly getting back with Constantine Stewart.
