the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart

Chapter 1472 - 1462: Many of Her Habits Are Still the Same as Before

Zheng Gu was about to go downstairs to find Chloe Winston, but after just two steps, a man called out to him, "Come back."

The man stood by the window, his handsome and refined face bathed in the lazy afternoon light, exuding an indescribable elegance and nobility. Constantine Stewart waved his hand, indicating that he shouldn’t go.

Chloe Winston didn’t even allow Finnian in, clearly not wanting outsiders to know about the matters here. If Zheng Gu went downstairs, it would undoubtedly be exposed. If the girl got angry and kicked both of them out, what would they do? The man hesitated for the first time, feeling a bit tormented at heart. Yet, Chloe was too naive. They had just stepped in when Finnian showed up, obviously aware of the situation.

It seemed Chloe Winston was the only one lying to herself here.

Constantine Stewart waited for more than ten minutes, his sharp brows knit so tightly they could form a knot. Only then did he see Chloe Winston get up to see Finnian out, which slightly eased the man’s gloomy expression. He waved at Zheng Gu, indicating he should go about his business and not be an eyesore.

The new home, having been moved into just recently, had a rather sparse décor in the guest room – only a soft Scandinavian-style bed and matching table and chairs, with curtains in a simple and fresh style. The overall character leaned towards a cool, understated elegance.

Constantine Stewart was known for his meticulous habits; without a shower and a change of clothes, he couldn’t sleep. Fortunately, the bathroom had brand new towels and robes, even disposable slippers. The man entered the master bedroom’s bathroom, found the bath and shampoo products Chloe Winston used daily, and noticed they were the same as those used on Fulham Road. Instantly, his gaze deepened, holding a hint of a smile. These products had to be ordered from abroad, and even though she’d moved out, many of their co-cultivated living habits hadn’t changed.

This secret discovery made Constantine Stewart feel a closeness between them. The half-aroused effects of the wine, already making him heady, were somewhat intoxicating.

The man brought the bathing products into the guest room bathroom, took a shower, lazily put on a robe, dried his hair, and then finally lay down on the big bed, feeling the robe on his body and the soft quilt, sleeping happily.

The size of the robe clearly seemed to fit him perfectly, confirming that she still had him in her heart. He decided he must work even harder. The man didn’t realize that robes aren’t differentiated by size, only style.

Zheng Gu quickly returned to Fulham Road to fetch Mr. Constantine’s spare clothes and daily necessities, packed them into a small suitcase, and also brought a fresh dinner along. Upon arriving at Spring Prosperity Garden, he saw Chloe Winston happily tidying her house, with flowers blooming in full bloom around the house, bringing warmth and serenity inside. The evening breeze from the lake opposite was refreshing, creating a sense of peace and satisfaction, reminiscent of living in a secluded paradise.

These days, Mr. Constantine was so relentless in pursuing his ex-wife that he didn’t mind pretending to endure, curbing all his temper, and even changed a lot. Chloe Winston only had to nod, and endless wealth and luxury awaited her. If nothing else, she herself was a celebrity, hiring a housekeeper wouldn’t cost much. Yet Chloe chose to do everything herself, living poetically amidst the flashy and noisy Imperial City. Zheng Gu couldn’t help but sigh; no wonder Mr. Constantine went to great lengths to win her back. If it were him, he’d chase after such a girl to the ends of the earth too.

Zheng Gu pouted, but sadly he neither had Mr. Constantine’s family background and power nor his looks; he’d better just be a faithful subordinate.

"Miss Winston, Mr. Constantine drank quite a bit. The doctor previously mentioned his stomach isn’t too well. I brought some nourishing herbal dishes from Fulham Road, and also Mr. Constantine’s spare clothes for emergencies." Zheng Gu placed the two-person herbal dishes in the living room.

Chloe Winston was trimming flowers. Seeing he’d even brought Constantine Stewart’s spare clothes, she hesitated and asked, "The butler said there are guests at home, are they still here?"

"Are you referring to the Countess who came from Paris, Miss Winston?" Zheng Gu deliberated as he spoke. "When I left, the Countess hadn’t yet departed, probably waiting till evening. Previously when Mr. Constantine was severely injured in Paris, the Countess would come by to visit frequently, but Mr. Constantine never saw her."

Zheng Gu couldn’t help but admire Mr. Constantine’s foresight after speaking. In fact, he was quite surprised to see the Countess when he returned. After marrying into a noble family, she genuinely lived a life of nobility. Though she seemed delicate like a weak vine, her social skills were famous throughout Paris. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have remarried yet again into a wealthy family.

"Constantine Stewart’s mother?" Chloe Winston frowned. Luckily the butler mentioned it briefly; otherwise, bumping into this Countess upon returning would be a sight she didn’t want to see. Chloe Winston merely wished to live quietly for five months, regaining her peaceful life, while also feeling a bit sorry for Constantine Stewart. In such joyous days, encountering the person who brought him countless dark shadows in his childhood would be far too cruel.

She hadn’t understood Constantine Stewart’s loneliness before, but now all she hoped was to prolong his brief joy within her means.

"Yes, I don’t know the specifics. If Miss Winston has any questions, she can ask Mr. Constantine. I’ll go upstairs to see if Mr. Constantine is awake." Zheng Gu smiled.

"Alright, take this bottle of flowers upstairs and place it in front of the guest room window." Chloe Winston handed over a freshly trimmed bouquet. The flowers were just cut from the small garden and still bore sprayed water droplets. Ever since tending to the flowers in the two small gardens, Chloe Winston could replace fresh bouquets daily, and when at home, she’d cut a couple of bunches to send to Finnian and the Secretary next door.

"Sure thing." Zheng Gu accepted the vase with a smile and went upstairs to knock on the door.

Constantine Stewart had been asleep for two hours and awoke when Zheng Gu knocked. The man threw off the quilt, got up, scratching his now-dry hair, and hoarsely said, "Come in."

"Mr. Constantine, here are your spare clothes and daily necessities." Zheng Gu brought in the suitcase, speaking softly. "The Countess is here, and she only left after I returned, saying she plans to stay in Imperial City for a long time. Luo Yiren called the Countess, saying some unpleasant things, and the Countess is aware of Miss Winston’s existence."

Constantine Stewart lowered his eyes, his thick lashes casting a small shadow. His handsome, fair face suddenly turned inscrutable, releasing each word with a husky and mocking coldness: "Luo Yiren, she really has a death wish."

No one knew better than he did the skill and tenacity of his own birth mother; Constantine Stewart felt all the unpredictability in his character was inherited from her. Fortunately, his father was naturally honest and kind-hearted, balancing out the genetics, or else he wouldn’t even know what kind of person he might have become.
