Chapter 1153: Chapter 1180: Maeve Is Sick (4)

After a while, she called out softly, "Little uncle?"

She was running a fever, so her voice was a little hoarse and soft, and if you listened carefully, there was even a hint of cautiousness in it.

Louis Cox’s heart suddenly went soft. He asked gently, "How do you feel? Are you hungry? Or do you want a little water first?"

"Where is this?" Maeve Myres stared blankly, foolishly, and asked again.

"The hospital." Louis Cox said with a smile, "You didn’t even notice you were running a fever? You fainted after class, and your homeroom teacher brought you to the hospital. Do you feel any better now?"

He kept asking, but Maeve Myres seemed not to hear him.

She kept her eyes wide open, letting her gaze sweep around the room once, and in the end, it settled fixedly on the television screen.

Louis Cox had forgotten to turn off the TV.

On the gossip news was a paparazzi photo of Caiden Ward and Rosy Harris. The beautiful anchorwoman was reporting with an envious face, saying that, supposedly, Young Master Ward’s new love was not from Cloud Capital, with fair skin, good looks, and long legs. The two had been photographed together again and again lately, and so on and so forth.

"Uncle Ward." Maeve Myres stared at the TV screen and murmured.

The TV volume was very low, so it was actually hard to make out what the anchorwoman was saying, but luckily there were subtitles.

Louis Cox stared at it for a couple of seconds, then turned the TV off.

He already knew about Caiden Ward and Rosy Harris. In the past few days, rumors about the two of them had been popping up non-stop, while the Ward Clan had remained completely silent. It was obvious the two of them were already together.

The little girl was infatuated with this man. He turned the TV off so it wouldn’t affect her rest.

Louis Cox turned his head, only to see two lines of tears sliding from the corners of Maeve Myres’s eyes, which gave him quite a scare.

"What’s wrong? Where do you feel uncomfortable?" he asked quickly.

Maeve Myres shook her head, then forced a smile through her tears. "Little uncle, feel my forehead? My head’s all woozy, and it kind of hurts."

Louis Cox reached out his hand.

His hand was icy cold, while Maeve Myres’s forehead was warm.

He let out a breath of relief and said with a smile, "You’re still a bit hot. Do you want to eat something? I’ll have someone go buy it."

"Mm, can I have a drumstick?" Maeve Myres bit her lip and asked him.

Louis Cox agreed readily, "Sure."

He got up and went outside to tell the bodyguard to buy lunch.

Inside the ward—

Maeve Myres lifted the hand with the IV drip, watching the blood flow back into the tube, the sting sharp.

Is it real?

She had returned to the year when she was nine.

She watched the blood slowly disappear inside the needle, then lowered her hand, staring up at the ceiling, her mind wandering far away.

Scenes from the future played back before her eyes like a movie.

She knew that what came next would be a full week of rainy weather. This fever of hers would be serious, coming and going; it wouldn’t break until the rain stopped. Then she would go abroad with Madison Leaf, because Caiden Ward was getting married.

Yes, in her memories, Caiden Ward would acknowledge Rosy Harris as his girlfriend tomorrow, and their wedding would be set for April after the New Year.

She knew that when she heard that news, she’d be in a terrible mood.

In fact—

Ever since Caiden Ward sent her back to the Myres Family again, she had been in low spirits.

But—

She had been far too young.

At nine, she had no idea what feelings were, much less why she felt sad. She only thought that she would never again be able to live with Uncle Ward, and it felt strange and wrong, but everyone around her said Uncle Ward ought to get married.

Just like little uncle—when a man reached a certain age, he was supposed to get married.

She understood that much, and could only watch, wide-eyed, feeling as if she were being abandoned.

Her aunt happened to be going abroad. After she got better, she made a huge fuss about going with her. In the end, everyone was worn down by her and had no choice but to agree. Madison Leaf, along with several of the old servants from the Myres Family, accompanied her overseas.
