Chapter 1132: Chapter 1159: Worlds Apart (4)
Previously, when we worked together, he naturally found out about Mia Ginger’s pregnancy.
He left in a hurry, and they only chatted a couple of times on WeChat. Just now, seeing her, he couldn’t inquire due to the presence of others, so now he had to send a text to show his concern.
"All good." Mia Ginger replied with three words.
Camden River thought for a moment and reminded her, "Be careful usually, call me if anything happens."
"Mm, what could happen, don’t worry."
"With your mindset, how could Dr. Jackson feel assured letting you go to work?"
"Uh." Mia Ginger sent him a rolling eyes emoji.
Camden River chuckled and put away his phone.
As soon as he slipped the phone into his pocket, it vibrated. He took a glance and answered, "Mom."
"Have you returned to Cloud Capital?" Chloe Smith asked him.
"Yes. Just arrived, having lunch now." Camden River said warmly, "Have you and Dad eaten?"
"Yes, we did." Chloe Smith laughed, "We had lunch with some old friends, oh, and by the way, we’re in Cloud Capital now. We came for a convention, and since you’re back, we thought we’d come by and see you."
See him?
Camden River was startled, "When are you coming by?"
"Tomorrow afternoon." Chloe Smith said, "We’re staying at a hotel arranged by the organizer with a few friends tonight. The convention ends by noon tomorrow, and your dad and I will come to see you. You just got back from a business trip, you have time to rest, right?"
"Yes, I can rest for a few days."
"So, it’s settled? We’ll come by tomorrow afternoon?" Chloe Smith gently asked.
Camden River thought for a moment, "Alright."
He hung up the phone and instantly lost his appetite.
With his parents in Cloud Capital, they would definitely want to see his new place. What about Windsor Myres? His head was spinning.
With this in mind, he waited until the end of the workday and took a taxi straight home.
This time in the Northwest Region, they had a team of over ten people and spent more than half a month there, investigating a woman’s disappearance case and creating a special report on "bride buying" in backward mountain villages. The hardships and twists need not be reiterated.
The special report was entering the post-editing phase, giving those who traveled four days of rest.
It was the perfect time to sort out matters with Windsor Myres.
Camden River was lost in thought and called Windsor Myres on the way.
No answer?
He rubbed his forehead and didn’t call again.
He had been so busy recently, he could only call Windsor Myres every few days. He knew she tried two jobs, worked for three days each, and quit, and he knew she was currently unemployed, planning to study for postgraduate exams while waiting for his guidance. He also knew she had gotten a Samoyed for the household.
Sigh.
Just thinking about it gave Camden River a headache as he entered the community.
He got in the elevator, took out his keys, and opened the door.
As soon as the door opened, he was startled by the scene in front of him.
"Who are you?" The young girl holding a broom, ready to attack, glanced at him and uncertainly asked.
Camden River took a deep breath, "And who are you?"
"I’m Little Ann." The young girl looked at him a bit more, smiling, "You must be Mr. River, you look so young. I’m the cleaner Miss Myres hired to come by every afternoon to tidy up."
Maid?
Camden River hadn’t even changed his shoes, walking in and asking, "Where is she?"
"She took the baby for a stroll downstairs."
"Baby?"
"Oh, the baby is the dog’s name." The young maid quickly explained with a smile.
Camden River gave her another look. The girl appeared to be around twenty, younger than him, with a ponytail and apron, a face sans makeup. She poured him a glass of water, put down the broom, used tissues and a cloth to clean up the dog poop behind the balcony door, washed her hands, and took two pieces of undergarments from Windsor Myres’s bedroom to the bathroom.
Perhaps because she was used to these tasks, her demeanor was very calm.
Camden River, however, was a bit unable to handle it.
Their family was a typical family of three; they normally didn’t hire a maid. Occasionally, if the entire house needed a thorough cleaning, Chloe would hire a few cleaners for half a day.
To him, home was a private place.
Especially the bedroom, having an unfamiliar girl come and go was uncomfortable, wasn’t it?
Windsor Myres didn’t even wash her own undergarments?
Camden River felt he could barely handle it. Windsor Myres had grown up in a privileged environment, which he understood, but he always felt a girl of her age should mature a bit, at least enough for some lifestyle changes.
Cooking, cleaning, household chores – it’s not necessary for her to do it all, but she should at least have a domestic attitude, right?
The girl called Little Ann soon finished washing the two pieces of undergarments and hung them on the balcony.
Immediately after—
She washed a rag and started scrubbing the floor, kneeling down.
Camden River couldn’t stand it and interrupted her, "The floor is clean enough, no need to scrub like that."
Seeing a younger girl kneel and squat, scrubbing the floor with a rag, while he sat, he couldn’t quite stomach it. Honestly, he’s just not accustomed to being served.
Their family was relatively affluent, but Father River wasn’t the type to raise him like a spoiled rich boy.
Camden River looked visibly awkward.
Little Ann, however, didn’t get up, remaining side-kneeling on the floor while smiling up at him, "It’s alright. Miss Myres said dog poop smells. Even after mopping, it’s not clean. You need soap water, laundry detergent, water, and scrub three times, then ventilate to eliminate the smell."
Camden River: "..."
If it’s such a hassle, why keep a dog?
He watched Little Ann continue kneeling to clean the floor, feeling a bit agitated.
Windsor Myres didn’t have her phone with her, so he couldn’t call, just wait. After nearly an hour, Little Ann finished tidying up the house and was about to leave when he heard the dog barking.
Little Ann opened the door, and a white Samoyed dashed into the living room, promptly peeing on the balcony floor.
Camden River: "..."
He sat down, saying nothing, and Windsor Myres scolded the Samoyed a couple of times, stepped forward, and threw her arms around his neck, playfully saying, "You’re finally back, I’ve been bored to death lately."
Little Ann, standing aside, looked awkward.
Camden River was equally embarrassed, pushing her arms aside, lowering his voice, "Be careful."
Windsor Myres glanced at Little Ann, instructing, "Clean up that spot." She pointed to where the Samoyed had just peed, her expression a bit helpless. Training the dog was bothersome; in the five days it had been home, it still didn’t know where to pee, frustrating her endlessly.
