Chapter 1105: Chapter 1132: That’s My Husband (8)
There was a very tall man standing in front of her.
It was Monday morning so the mall wasn’t crowded. She went down from the fourth floor to the first, and that man stayed in front of her the whole time. In the end he must’ve sensed someone behind him, because he instinctively turned his head to glance back.
That glance stunned him for a second, then he hooked his lips up in a smile.
Mia Ginger was also taken aback. "Hi."
Cloud Capital always looked big but felt small; she could run into this guy just going out to buy something and grab a meal.
"Hi." Frank Holland smiled as he gave her a once-over, then asked, "Judging from the look of it, you’re heading to an interview?"
"Mm." Mia nodded.
"Where are you interviewing?" As they spoke, they’d already walked out of the mall. Frank asked again, sounding casual.
Mia thought for a moment. "The university."
"The university?" What he’d actually meant was what kind of job, but when he heard her answer he realized he was being a bit abrupt. His expression softened as he nodded and probed, "Cloud Capital University?"
The two of them had met near Cloud Capital University before. Frank’s instinct told him this girl probably studied at Cloud Capital University.
Mia smiled and nodded again.
Frank said with a laugh, "What a coincidence. I’m just about to head over there myself. Want a lift?"
"Huh?" Mia froze, then hurriedly said, "No need. I can just grab a cab over, I’d feel bad troubling you." Besides, they really weren’t familiar. Even though she’d helped him catch a thief and added his WeChat, apart from that they’d never had any contact. Of course she was going to turn him down.
Frank was amused by how directly she refused him. He shrugged. "You helped me catch that thief last time. I’ve been meaning to thank you. I was actually going to reach out when we added each other on WeChat a few days ago, but I had to go abroad on short notice and only got back this weekend. You’re not going to turn down a belated thank-you too, are you?"
"It’s not that, it’s just really not necessary, I can go by myself."
"It’s not easy to get a cab around here." Frank lifted his gaze to the traffic-choked street, then went on, "My place is over that way. It’s only a few minutes’ drive to Cloud Capital University."
Mia pressed her lips together, thought for a bit, then still smiled and insisted, "I’d really be putting you out. It’s okay, really."
She was smiling, but her attitude left no room for negotiation.
Frank could only give a helpless smile, say goodbye, and turn to go get his car. But when he drove back ten minutes later, Mia was still standing by the road trying to hail a taxi, looking thoroughly frustrated.
It had always been hard to get a taxi in Cloud Capital, and Frank knew that.
He pulled his car over by the curb, leaned across to open the passenger door, and said gently, "Hop in. Human trafficking’s not my line of work."
Mia: "..."
Where he’d stopped actually wasn’t a legal parking spot. Even if there weren’t any traffic cameras around, it still blocked the cars behind. Plus, she didn’t feel like he had any bad intentions toward her. That joke wasn’t funny at all and only made her feel a bit awkward.
Mia pressed her lips together, thought for a second, and got in.
As soon as he saw her pull the door shut, Frank lowered his eyes and reminded her, "Seat belt."
Mia let out an "mm" and buckled up. He then asked, "I don’t even know what to call you yet."
"Mia Ginger." Mia smiled. "Ginger as in the spice, Ginger as in the color ginger."
"Frank Holland. Nice to meet you." Frank turned his head slightly. His speech was unhurried, deep and steady, giving off a sense of being relaxed yet in control, the kind of reliability that set the pace.
Mia smiled. "Pleasure’s mine."
They weren’t really familiar, so naturally there wasn’t much to talk about.
Frank withdrew his gaze, smiling faintly as he spoke in an offhand tone. "Your brother really dotes on you."
"Eh?" Mia looked at him curiously.
Frank explained, "Last time, at the clinic, he looked so nervous he actually came across as kind of endearing. I’ve got a younger sister too, though she’s a few years older than you."
"Oh." Mia thought for a moment, then smiled. "You’ve got it wrong. That’s not my brother, that’s my husband."
