Chapter 1100: Chapter 1127: He’s My Husband (3)
Time ticked away second by second, and the room was completely dark.
The curtains weren’t drawn, and the city’s nighttime lights shone outside, distant, serene yet bustling.
Camden River and Windsor Myres lay flat on the bed.
Time seemed to have passed for a very long time, yet also seemed to have stayed still.
Windsor Myres asked him, "Do you love me?"
Camden River answered, "I do."
"But you don’t love me as much as I love you." Windsor Myres asked again, "Would you give up your parents for me?"
"No." Camden River paused for a second, saying truthfully.
Windsor Myres turned over and pressed on top of him, "But I would. I’d be willing to give up my mom for you, can we just be together like this? Ignore my mom, don’t live with your parents, just the two of us, don’t think about anything, don’t care about anything, can we?"
Camden River gently pushed her away and sat up.
His handsome, fair face showed no expression, and his always clean, dark eyes seemed to be veiled in an inscrutable light in the dimness. He didn’t speak, turned sideways to the bedside table, took out a pack of cigarettes, and lit one with a lighter.
Windsor Myres looked at him in disbelief.
Camden River never smoked, at least, she had never seen it.
"When did you start smoking?" Windsor Myres looked at him steadily and asked.
Camden River took a puff, closed his eyes for a moment, "Not long ago."
In those early days of his internship, he was very tired, the job pressure was greater than he imagined, especially with his competitive nature, sometimes working until three in the morning researching news. Really exhausted, once during overtime, he smoked with Phillip Hanson.
The feeling brought by cigarettes was indescribable, yet indeed, it alleviated some pressure to a certain extent.
He’s human, not a god, still very young, just entered society, only twenty-three years old. Even though he’s calmer and more restrained than peers, even steadier and more composed, no matter how you put it, he’s still only twenty-three, needing occasional relaxation.
His tone was casual, and Windsor Myres suddenly recalled the moment when they first got together.
Camden River lit her cigarette, softly saying, "I’m lighting your last cigarette this lifetime for you." Since then, when she felt depressed, she’d rather drink to numb herself than smoke to cope with her mood.
Yet, she actually didn’t handle alcohol well, getting into trouble easily when drunk.
Past events suddenly flooded her mind, and Windsor Myres rarely felt sorrowful too, truly no turning back, no matter what, can never return, she and Camden River’s little sweetness can’t return, and Camden River’s initial principles gradually disappeared. He became a man under heavy pressure.
In fact—
Since Camden River and she got together, was there any day without bearing pressure?
Maybe leaving him would be a relief, but many things in this world, once it’s done, can’t be undone.
She had experienced Camden River’s goodness, and couldn’t leave him, simply couldn’t, even though she knew he was always suffering because of her.
Camden River quietly finished a cigarette, calling her, "Little Windsor."
Windsor Myres remained silent, looking at him earnestly.
Camden River continued, "I can’t give up my parents for you, so if we continue to be together, you have to change. I know you might not want to, and I won’t force you, but this is already the biggest concession I can make. As long as you’re willing to change, I’ll work on persuading my parents, together we’ll strive for the future, alright?"
"What kind of change... are you referring to?" Windsor Myres thought deeply.
