Chapter 1098: Chapter 1125: He’s My Husband (1)

Troy River stared at her, his face dark as iron, the hand clamped on the table shaking with rage.

Cherry Lewis finished talking, drew her gaze back from Camden River, glanced at Windsor Myres who was biting her lower lip tight, and said coldly, "Go home with me. Don’t waste time here."

"No!" Windsor Myres exploded on the spot. "I’m staying with him."

"Shameless." Cherry Lewis seemed to have run out of patience. She turned her head toward the door and ordered, "Come in and take Miss back."

"Yes, ma’am." Two tall, muscular bodyguards answered from outside and came in. Without another word, they grabbed Windsor Myres by the shoulders, one on each side, and expressionlessly started to escort her out, not a trace of human warmth in them.

Windsor Myres’s face changed drastically and she kicked out with her high heels.

The two bodyguards didn’t react at all.

Driven to desperation, she looked at Camden River, her face full of aggrieved reproach. "I told you not to come back, but you insisted on coming back with me. See what happened now? Now you see what kind of person my mom is, right? There’s no reasoning with her!"

Her voice was sharp and fierce, so angry that it was shaking as she spoke, yet Camden River just stood there, staring at her blankly.

His heart hurt.

He had never experienced anything like this before.

It felt as if his own face had been ripped off alive and thrown on the ground for people to trample on. And it wasn’t just his face—he’d dragged his parents’ dignity down with him, leaving him feeling utterly humiliated.

Everything was a mess; he had never felt this agitated and confused.

He wanted to reach out and pull Windsor Myres back, but discovered his hands simply wouldn’t move, stiff as steel.

Windsor Myres’s frantic, furious voice quickly faded away, and Cherry Lewis also left. Before she went, she lifted her phoenix eyes, the corners of her lips curling as she shot him a smile, a smile full of contempt and pity.

Camden River felt his heart plunge into an ice cave.

He stood in the private room, not even sure how long he’d been standing there, when he heard the sound of Troy River flicking his sleeve and leaving.

"Hey!"

His mother hurried after him.

The two of them had rushed all the way here from afar, hadn’t even taken a single bite, and now left in a fury.

They even—

By the time he snapped out of it and ran out after them, they were already gone.

Camden River stood on the bustling street, feeling utterly lost, as if his soul had been sucked out of him. He had just suffered a blow and a hurt unlike anything he’d ever felt in his life—of course, so had his parents, who had always cared about face and reputation above all else.

After letting his thoughts run wild for a long time, Camden River dialed Chloe Smith’s number.

On the other end, Chloe Smith spoke in a low voice, "Your dad is furious. I don’t dare try to talk him down. If he gets so worked up something happens to him, that would be terrible. Let’s just leave it at that. We won’t look at houses anymore, we’re going back first. Whatever needs to be done, we’ll talk next time. As for you and that girl, don’t you dare keep tangling with her. A daughter-in-law like that is something the River Family can’t afford, and in-laws like that are way out of our league."

"Enough!" Troy River’s angry roar came through the phone.

The next second, the phone was in Troy River’s hand. His voice was icy. "You’re an adult now. Sort out your own love life. You’re not even graduated and you’re already thinking about marriage—is this the daughter-in-law you brought me? Huh? In all my life, I, Troy River, have never been this humiliated. It’s absurd! We’re not looking at houses anymore. You sit down and think this through. If you still want anything to do with her, then you can forget about having me as your father!"

"Dad, Little Windsor, she..."

"Don’t call me Dad!" Troy River barked in a fury, and hung up on him.

The busy tone beeped in his ear.

Camden River stared ahead in a daze.

He wanted to say that Windsor Myres wasn’t completely without redeeming qualities; that sometimes she could actually be quite sweet; that she loved him, that she’d risk her life for him; that she’d grown up in an environment like that, with no one to teach her, that she’d been shaped into who she was by all of it, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t change.
