Chapter 1097: Chapter 1124: Don’t Even Think of Marrying Up (5)
After all, since her son had already been involved with the young lady, they were traditional in thinking, and wanted Camden River to take responsibility.
Including Camden River, the three people waited in the private room for over half an hour; it was past twelve o’clock, and Cherry Lewis hadn’t come at all. Forget Cherry Lewis, Windsor Myres hadn’t even made a call.
As they waited, Troy River occasionally checked his watch, and his face grew colder and colder.
Camden River’s face wasn’t looking good either, he reluctantly smiled to explain to the two of them, "Her mom is a businesswoman, owns a few restaurants, quite busy. I’ll make a call to check."
"Go ahead." Chloe Smith, still relatively calm, nodded to let him go out.
Camden River was outside and hadn’t even made the call when he saw Windsor Myres walking up.
"Are your parents here?" Windsor Myres asked as she approached.
"It’s twelve fifteen, why are you only here now?" Camden River pressed his thin lips, looking at the bright color on her lips, his face looking quite displeased.
"Went to the beauty salon this morning to get a facial." Windsor Myres suddenly leaned closer to him, laughing, "How’s it? Looks fair and radiant, doesn’t it? The weather’s been killing me lately with heat; whenever I tan, I turn black. How could I meet your parents with a dark face?"
"You could have gone yesterday, today’s a big day, can you afford to be late?" Camden River still felt rather helpless.
His parents, especially his father, were people who valued time immensely, they absolutely detested tardiness. In school, during his lectures, students dared not be even half a minute late.
Thinking about his father’s angry face, Camden River simply didn’t want to return to the private room.
Windsor Myres seemed unbothered, complaining, "It’s just fifteen minutes, not long."
"Alright, let’s not talk about it. Do you have wet wipes with you?" Camden River asked her.
Windsor Myres made a "huh?" sound.
Camden River calmly advised, "Your lipstick color is too bright, wipe it off."
"Huh?" Windsor Myres pulled a face and said, "I’m not even wearing makeup, just been putting on some lipstick lately, and you’re fussing over that too?"
"We’re here for a meal, wearing lipstick is unnecessary, it’ll all end up in your mouth anyway."
"Alright then." Windsor Myres lightly smiled and leaned in to hug his neck affectionately, "I’ll listen to you then. After all, we won’t meet often, you better remember my kindness."
"Got it, now let go of me." Camden River’s face reddened slightly, prying her hands off.
Windsor Myres pouted, wiped off her lipstick, and followed him into the room.
In the private room, dishes hadn’t been ordered yet, and Troy River and Chloe Smith had a pot of tea and a fruit platter in front of them. As they lifted their gaze to see her, their prior calmness dissipated, they merely nodded as a gesture.
Windsor Myres bit her lip and said, "Hello, Aunt and Uncle."
"Sit down, the heat outside is unbearable." Chloe Smith gently persuaded her.
Seeing her sit down, Camden River was instructed to call the waiter to bring the cold dishes first, as they waited for Cherry Lewis.
The outcome —
The cold dishes were served; the group waited another half hour.
During this period, Windsor Myres made two phone calls.
At one fifteen, Cherry Lewis finally arrived, clutching a small handbag, fashionably late.
Near fifty, her skin was still fair; her face adorned with delicate makeup, her hair styled in curls, pinned with a hairpin set with pomegranate red rubies behind her ear, letting loose strands cover the other ear. She wore a fitted off-shoulder dress, looking like a modern woman straight out of a TV drama, exuding an aura of wealth.
With her arrival, Troy River and Chloe Smith’s patience was worn to the limit, yet they still maintained basic decorum, standing up together, saying, "Please, have a seat."
Chloe Smith also smiled at Camden River, saying, "Have the waiter bring the other dishes quickly."
"No need." Cherry Lewis casually glanced at the table and smiled faintly at Camden River, "No need for fuss, I’ll say a few words and leave."
"You?" Camden River was stunned for a moment.
Windsor Myres also paused in surprise, directly asking, "Mom, weren’t you the one who wanted to have dinner?"
"I merely wanted to meet." Cherry Lewis sidestepped, sitting on the chair at hand, looking at Troy River, then at Chloe Smith, and asked calmly, "You two are teachers, right?"
"..." The River Family parents were momentarily silent, looking at Camden River.
Camden River’s face had turned exceedingly grim.
Cherry Lewis smiled, "I won’t beat around the bush, I’ll speak plainly. Riverside isn’t a first-tier city, right? Not even considered a developed second-tier city, yet your son, without my consent, has come into my house. Our Little Windsor’s looks and status stand out among the eligible daughters in Cloud Capital’s elite families. Do you think I would let her marry a small-time reporter who runs around everywhere, come rain or shine?"
"Mom!"
"Aunt!"
Windsor Myres and Camden River called out to her in unison.
The former expression filled with incredulity, the latter was more about anger and humiliation.
Camden River never expected Windsor Myres’s mother to humiliate him in a setting like this; it was simply beyond what his heart could bear, he didn’t even dare to look at Troy River and Chloe Smith’s expressions.
Cherry Lewis, interrupted by their call-outs, shifted her gaze onto Camden River, raised her beautiful eyes, and said, "I don’t agree with your relationship with her. Do you understand? I came here today to make that clear. You’re a good kid, but unfortunately born into an ordinary teacher’s family. Of course, Little Windsor says professor, then professor it is, but can a monthly salary buy a square meter in Cloud Capital? Have some self-awareness; families like ours are not ones you can latch onto, there are plenty of good girls in this world, no need to hang yourself on one tree."
"This is outrageous!" Troy River, past sixty years, older than Cherry Lewis by almost a cycle, couldn’t hold back, slapped the table, and stood up.
Chloe Smith quickly stood with him, discontented, "You think I want your daughter to join the River Family either?"
"Great!" Cherry Lewis’s lips curved disdainfully, "It’s good to have things clearly stated."
