"Mm, just so-so." Mia Ginger said it like it was nothing.

"..." Koa Jackson had already driven out of the parking lot. He turned his head to glance at her. "Answer properly."

Mia froze, met his serious expression, and mumbled, "Not very good."

"And the reason?" Koa asked again.

Mia was the typical type who only shared good news, not bad. This past week at work, every time she mentioned her job, it was always just "pretty good." Now that Koa thought back on it more carefully, he started wondering if, for an intern, her workload might be a bit too much.

Koa frowned slightly, deep in thought, when suddenly a sentence sounded in his ear: "She probably thinks I’m young and pretty."

There was a hint of casual nonchalance in Mia’s tone.

Koa was speechless on the spot.

Then again, he really had no impression of Reagon Chapman at all. What this girl said did kind of make sense. It was the sort of line that made you want to laugh and be annoyed at the same time. Koa reached over and grabbed one of Mia’s hands.

Mia was caught off guard, her face flushing. "Watch the road."

"I am."

Koa had always been a steady driver, never too fast. Handling the wheel with one hand was no problem for him. Mia thought about it for a second, then just let him hold her hand. There was a faint sweetness in her chest as her gaze dropped to their joined hands.

More precisely, Koa’s hand was wrapped around her small one, his fingertips gently stroking her palm.

The movement was so gentle that as Mia stared, her thoughts started to wander. Her mind drifted to one of Koa’s little habits when things got heated between them—he liked to hold and play with one of her feet. Just like that time when she’d just come back to the country, he’d even put an anklet on her at night. Just thinking about it made her burn with embarrassment; she basically never wore it normally.

"What are you thinking about?"

A soft call by her ear abruptly snapped her out of it.

Mia’s face was burning red. She tried to pull her hand back. "Nothing."

Koa tightened his hold on her hand, the corners of his lips lifting slightly, but he didn’t say anything.

Mia got even more frustrated. The AC was on in the car, it wasn’t hot at all, yet she felt overheated all over. The silence just made it worse, so she simply changed the subject and asked, "Where are we going?"

"Feel like watching a movie?" Koa’s voice was low and gentle. "Your uncle has a new film out."

"Emperor’s Empire?"

"Mm." Koa added lightly, "I’ve already got the tickets."

Mia was taken aback for a second, then smiled. "I’ll go with your plan."

Koa drove straight to the cinema he’d picked out. Without eating, he took Mia to the movie first.

Mia was actually a little hungry, but Koa’s movie tickets were for seven o’clock, so they had no time to grab dinner. She could only sit in the theater and attack the popcorn with all her might.

Bradley Cooper had always been very cautious about the projects he took on. Every film was a classic, with guaranteed quality.

Emperor’s Empire was a big-budget historical costume film that completely swept away the usual stodginess of domestic historical movies. The pace was fast. Right from the start, three parallel montage sequences directly introduced the three main characters and launched them into a power struggle.

Bradley Cooper broke away from his usual cultivated, refined persona and made a special appearance as a gloomy strategist at the side of the second male lead.

He wasn’t the main character, but he was one of the biggest stars in the film, and in the early promotions he had always been used as one of the key selling points. Koa never really paid much attention to that stuff; he’d only seen him on the promo poster and had asked Felix Lopez to grab tickets while he was at it.
