The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 43: The General’s Battlefield
The western training field had officially transformed into a brutal, high-intensity battlefield. Millions of glowing crimson eyes filled the suffocating darkness beyond the academy’s outer defense barriers.
Heavy Zerg claws scraped continuously against reinforced steel deck plates, while countless grotesque bodies crawled frantically over one another, searching for the slightest opening in the grid.
The surrounding cadets were completely paralyzed by fear, their trembling hands barely able to grip their weapons.
Rhaevia, however, was not frightened in the least. She stood tall on the elevated command platform, her glowing blue eyes calmly scanning the shifting topological grid of the terrain.
"Right flank," Rhaevia ordered over the open command frequency, her clear voice carrying zero hesitation. "Fall back three meters immediately."
The twelve Sentinel cadets assigned to the sector moved instantly, stepping backward in tight synchronization.
"Raise your kinetic shields," she commanded sharply.
The students slammed their heavy energy barriers into the dirt.
"Now," she added.
A microsecond later, a violent wave of charging Zergs slammed directly into their reinforced position. The massive kinetic impact shook the very bedrock of the platform, sending clouds of dust into the air. Yet, despite the overwhelming force, the defensive line held perfectly.
The cadets stared at one another in sheer, unadulterated shock. They had executed their movement before the incoming Zerg attack had even reached their visual range. Rhaevia had predicted the precise microsecond of the strike.
"Long-range sniper units," Rhaevia continued over the radio, her gaze shifting to the upper catwalks. "Do not fire at the frontal wave."
Several noble students hesitated, their fingers hovering nervously over their rifle firing studs. The advancing beasts were directly in front of their position, roaring into the night.
"Wait for my mark," Rhaevia instructed flatly.
Three seconds passed in agonizing silence.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
Suddenly, the hardened concrete ground directly beneath the western barrier cracked open with a thunderous roar. Dozens of mutated Zergs erupted from the subterranean darkness, completely bypassing the primary defensive line.
"Fire," Rhaevia commanded.
Concentrated plasma weapons roared into life across the high platforms. Blinding blue beams of high-yield energy tore through the emerging underground swarm, neutralizing the threat before the beasts could even land.
The cadets on the wall stared down in total disbelief.
"How on earth did she know they were under us?" a cadet stammered.
"She saw them coming on the sensors," his partner whispered, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"No," the squad leader corrected, his voice trembling. "She didn’t just see them. She knew exactly where they would emerge."
Rhaevia completely ignored their hushed whispers, her mind executing millions of tactical calculations.
"Close-combat units, prepare to rotate!" she barked.
The front-line assault group immediately disengaged, stepping smoothly through the gaps in the barrier. The secondary group advanced simultaneously to fill the void.
The complex tactical rotation occurred without a single point of confusion. No cadet blocked another soldier’s line of sight, and not a single round of plasma ammunition was wasted. Every physical movement across the line possessed absolute, lethal purpose.
Rhaevia watched the unfolding chaos like a master grandmaster who had already played out the match hours before.
"Step left," she instructed over a local comm-link. A cadet instinctively stepped to his left. A fraction of a second later, a massive Zerg claw struck the precise patch of empty space where his chest had just been.
"Duck your head," she said to another. The student instantly dropped to his knees as a razor-sharp mandible whistled through the air above him.
"Three steps forward, strike upward," she ordered a third.
The cadet obeyed without question, driving his plasma blade straight through the creature’s exposed, unarmored chest core. The giant Zerg collapsed heavily onto the rocks, dead.
The student’s eyes widened in sheer awe as he looked up toward the high platform. Rhaevia had predicted every single micro-movement of his duel, and she hadn’t even raised her own weapon.
Major General Raevor Veyr stood several meters behind her, his dark eyes tracking her every move in absolute silence.
This was not basic academy training. This was not even standard combat intuition. She was actively reading the entire planetary battlefield in real time.
She calculated every Zerg movement, identified every structural opening, anticipated every vector, and exploited every hidden weakness. She was not merely reacting to the chaotic assault. She was completely controlling it.
"Medical team!" Rhaevia turned sharply, her voice cutting through the noise. "Move toward the northern barrier gap immediately. You have six wounded cadets requiring extraction."
The medical students froze in place, staring up at her in confusion.
"How did you know about casualties?" one stammered. "We haven’t received a distress ping from the northern line yet!"
"Go now," Rhaevia commanded flatly.
The medical squad sprinted toward the northern sector without another word. Minutes later, six injured cadets were pulled from the rubble, exactly as she had stated.
The surrounding faculty instructors exchanged deeply uneasy, troubled glances with one another. A chief combat instructor finally stepped forward, his expression grave as he approached the platform.
"Cadet Rythundeir," the instructor called out.
Rhaevia turned her dark eyes to meet his gaze.
"You are currently directing the entire defense network of this military academy," the instructor stated, his tone heavy.
"Yes," Rhaevia replied smoothly.
"You are not a certified faculty instructor," he noted.
"No," she agreed.
"You are not an officer of the Imperial High Command," he added.
"No," Rhaevia repeated, her posture unyielding.
The senior instructor looked out over the sprawling battlefield, then back at the hundreds of battle-hardened cadets who were currently moving in flawless formation under her command.
"Then what exactly are you?" the instructor asked softly.
Rhaevia remained silent for a long heartbeat, her eyes sweeping over the burning ruins of the campus. She saw the thick smoke, the dark blood, the roaring fires, and the desperate struggle for survival.
She had seen all of this before. Not on an interstellar training world, and not against alien Zergs, but on an Earth that had burned to ash.
She remembered an apocalyptic wasteland where human armies collapsed, and where humanity fought endless hordes of nightmares that never stopped coming.
Her pale fingers tightened firmly around the frame of her rifle.
"A soldier who knows how to survive," she answered quietly.
The instructor stared at her pale face for several seconds. Then, he slowly straightened his spine and offered a crisp military salute.
"Understood," he said.
He immediately turned toward the primary broadcasting array, activating his high-priority channel.
"All academy units!" his voice thundered across the entire planetary grid. "From this exact moment forward, Cadet Rhaevia Rythundeir holds total tactical command of the academy defense!"
Thousands of cadets across the perimeter looked up toward the high platform. Not a single student objected to the announcement, and not a single noble questioned her authority. They simply waited for her next directive.
Rhaevia looked down at the assembled lines.
"Then listen carefully," she commanded over the open line.
The entire chaotic battlefield seemed to grow strangely quiet under her presence.
"The Zerg swarm is testing our defensive thresholds," Rhaevia explained, her voice echoing across the installation.
Raevor’s dark eyes narrowed into thin slits as he stepped closer to listen.
"They are not attacking us randomly out of hunger," she continued, pointing toward the western field. "They are deliberately forcing us to concentrate our main heavy forces right here."
She shifted her hand toward the eastern ridge. "They are simultaneously sealing off our primary evacuation routes to bottleneck us."
Finally, she pointed toward the fracturing earth beneath their feet. "And an immense force is actively driving them from deep beneath the planet’s crust."
A suffocating, icy silence settled over the command deck.
Raevor stepped up beside her, his deep voice carrying a rare edge of intensity.
"Are you suggesting this entire planetary siege is being strategically coordinated?" he asked.
Rhaevia offered a single, firm nod.
"Yes," she stated flatly.
Before Raevor could formulate a response, the battlefield below suddenly underwent a horrific transformation.
The advancing Zerg tide abruptly stopped attacking. Every single creature across the vast, burning plain froze in absolute unison. Thousands upon thousands of glowing crimson eyes turned upward to lock directly onto the command platform.
Then, the massive swarm began to move in a terrifying, mathematical pattern. They did not charge forward, nor did they retreat backward. They shifted sideways, moving with absolute, unnatural precision. The massive western swarm divided itself into five distinct, massive assault divisions.
The eastern Zerg forces retreated into precise choke points, while the subterranean units redirected their tunneling vectors beneath the surface. The entire alien army was organizing into a strategic siege array across the landscape.
Rhaevia’s unbothered expression slowly hardened into pure ice.
Raevor noticed the subtle shift in her posture immediately.
"What is it?" he demanded quietly.
She offered no verbal answer, her eyes tracking the synchronized movement of millions of monsters. The formation was far too precise, far too strategic, and far too intelligent for wild beasts. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Then, every single Zerg on the planet raised its armored head at the exact same microsecond.
A massive, unified wave of mental pressure exploded outward across the atmosphere. Rhaevia felt something ancient and terrifying awaken deep beneath the planet’s mantle, something that recognized her very soul. Her dark pupils contracted into tiny points.
"Someone is actively commanding them," she whispered.
And somewhere deep beneath the subterranean ruins of Planet V-17, an ancient entity slowly opened its crimson eyes in the dark.
