The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 123: The False Sovereign
"False Sovereign." The accusation echoed across the vast battlefield, carrying over the charged artillery and the rustle of leaves.
Rhaevia stood upon the crystalline ridge, golden energy flickering around her fingertips as she held her ground against the oppressive atmosphere.
Above the clouds, the giant holographic projection of the enemy commander loomed, his face concealed behind an angular, light-absorbing black helmet.
The suffocating pressure bearing down on the planet intensified with every passing moment, rattling the surrounding mountain peaks.
Beneath Rhaevia’s boots, the crystalline roots pulsed with a corrupting darkness that fought against her golden aura. Across the forest floor, thousands of Zerg collapsed onto their knees, struggling against the invisible force pressing directly upon their minds.
"Rhaevia, the hostile authority, is interfering with your command network." Raevor’s low, steady voice entered her consciousness through their mental link. "My fleet can suppress their orbital weapons, but I cannot neutralize that raw Sovereign energy from orbit."
"I know," she transmitted back, her posture remaining perfectly unyielding.
Her gaze never left the helmeted figure towering above the atmosphere. "Explain yourself," she demanded, her voice amplified through the planetary energy network. "Who gave you the authority to judge me?"
The figure let out a deep, echoing laugh, a cold and distorted sound transmitted through every open communication frequency. "Judge you? You severely misunderstand your position here."
The holographic projection expanded, revealing an insignia etched directly onto the armor across the commander’s chest, the same emblem carried by the invading armada.
"You carry a stolen authority," he declared, pointing a gauntleted finger down at her. "The sovereign power you wield does not belong to you."
Rhaevia’s expression remained impassive, though her fingers tightened slightly. "Stolen?"
"You wear the title of Sovereign Guide, command the Zerg, and awaken civilizations that should have remained buried in the dark," the commander sneered. "Yet you know nothing of the true authority you claim to possess."
Tendrils of black energy spread across the dawn sky, blotting out the morning light.
"The original Sovereign authority belongs solely to the rightful successor," he continued, his tone filled with zealotry. "You are merely an imitation occupying a vacant throne."
For a fleeting moment, fragmenting memories stirred deep within Rhaevia’s consciousness. She saw golden crowns, a forgotten palace of light, and countless civilizations kneeling before a throne she had ultimately rejected.
She remembered willingly abandoning that throne in an earlier life. She remembered choosing her own freedom, her own path, and the promise she had made to herself when she woke up in this timeline.
I will never again belong to a title, she reminded herself, locking those fragments away.
Rhaevia lifted her chin, her golden eyes burning with clarity. "I never claimed ownership of your throne."
The commander’s mocking laughter stopped instantly.
"I have no interest in ruling through fear, and I have never forced this world to kneel before me," she stated, her words echoing across the silent battle lines. "The Zerg follow because they choose to do so. The people beneath this planet welcomed me because they trusted me."
A brilliant wave of golden light suddenly surged through the crystalline forest, responding to her unwavering heart. "I did not steal my authority," she declared, stepping forward. "I awakened to it."
Project Genesis flashed across her visual field, its system text appearing in bright gold.
[SOVEREIGN AUTHORITY: STABLE.]
[FOREIGN COMMAND INTERFERENCE: DETECTED.]
[COUNTERMEASURE AVAILABLE: CREATOR AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED.]
Rhaevia’s lips curved into a cold smile as she looked up at the flickering hologram. "You wanted to test whether I deserved this power?"
She extended her right hand toward the sky, spreading her fingers wide. "Then watch carefully."
The Sovereign Command Field erupted outward in a blinding, golden shockwave. Instead of forcing the Zerg to obey through brute domination, Rhaevia reached deep into their collective consciousness, reinforcing their bond with the living planetary network.
Golden energy flooded through the crystalline roots, violently purging and driving back the foreign black corruption.
One by one, the frozen Zerg raised their heads, their crimson eyes clearing as they let out synchronized roars. The crushing external pressure shattered like glass.
[FOREIGN COMMAND INTERFERENCE: REJECTED.]
[PLANETARY NETWORK: RESTORED.]
[SOVEREIGN AUTHORITY: UNCHALLENGED.]
Rhaevia’s golden aura soared into the atmosphere, forming an enormous, luminous shield around the entire continent.
High above in orbit, the enemy commander staggered backward inside the projection, holding his head as the feedback hit him. "What have you done?"
"I returned your command to its rightful limits," Rhaevia replied coldly.
Raevor instantly seized the operational opening from his flagship. "All fleet units, concentrate fire on the flagship’s external weapon arrays!" he ordered into the comms. "Disable their primary cannons. Do not destroy the core vessel!"
Lethal silver energy beams converged upon the enemy formation in perfect unison. At the same moment, Rhaevia redirected the flying Zerg swarms, sending them sweeping through the remaining assault craft to tear away their deployment engines.
The commander’s hologram flickered violently as the flagship shook under the barrage.
Rhaevia raised two fingers toward the sky. A concentrated pulse of pure golden energy shot across the atmosphere, piercing through orbit and striking the dark armor surrounding the commander’s physical body aboard his bridge.
The black energy shielding his frame collapsed. For the first time, the imposing figure dropped to one knee, coughing dark blood onto the metal floor.
Rhaevia had enough gathered power to obliterate his flagship. Instead, she slowly lowered her hand, letting the golden aura settle around her.
"I will not kill you for simply carrying someone else’s message," she stated softly.
The commander slowly lifted his head, his breathing ragged. Beneath his shattered helmet, a pair of crimson eyes burned with intense hatred and something dangerously close to cruel satisfaction.
"You truly believe this is over?" he rasped out, his voice cutting through the air.
Behind him, his damaged flagship began firing its retro-thrusters, slowly retreating toward the expanding spatial fracture as its remaining escort ships regrouped around it.
The commander leaned closer to the dying holographic transmitter. "You may have rejected the throne, False Sovereign. You may even believe this galaxy belongs to you now."
His voice dropped into a chilling whisper filled with promises that echoed through every speaker. "But the one who holds the original authority has already learned of your awakening."
The massive spatial fracture widened behind his retreating fleet, black lightning crackling along its edges.
Rhaevia’s golden eyes narrowed. "Who?"
The commander gave a final, humorless laugh before the transmission cut out completely.
"The Third Sovereign is coming personally."
