The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 121: The Sky Breaks Open
The first warning came from the planetary defense network.
Three ear-splitting alarms echoed through the frontier command center, shattering the silence of the late evening. Holographic panels flared crimson across the main hall, bathing the officers in blood-red emergency light.
Rhaevia snapped her eyes up from the holographic terminal where she had been reviewing the latest research reports. Across the central console, Raevor straightened immediately, his expression instantly locking into a mask of military frost.
"Report," he commanded, his low voice cutting through the rising panic like a physical blade.
The communications officer rushed to his station, his fingers flying across the glowing keys. "General! An abnormal spatial fluctuation has appeared beyond the planet’s upper atmosphere! The readings are increasing rapidly!"
Beside him, an officer pulled up the orbital map, expanding a massive holographic projection of the globe.
"Spatial distortion detected at coordinates seven-three-nine," the officer reported urgently. "The phenomenon is expanding exponentially!"
Rhaevia rose from her seat, her dark eyes fixed on the twisting readings on the central screen.
She recognized that energy signature immediately. It wasn’t the frequency she had logged before, but the underlying structure was unmistakable.
It closely resembled the violent distortion they had encountered when crossing the Imperial boundary, except this time, something on the other side was actively forcing its way through.
"Project Genesis," she called out silently within her mind.
The glowing response materialized directly across her visual field.
[SPATIAL FRACTURE DETECTED.]
[ANOMALOUS ENERGY SIGNATURE IDENTIFIED.]
[WARNING: SPATIAL STABILITY COLLAPSING.]
Her expression hardened into pure granite as she looked up at the main viewscreen.
"Someone is opening a gate," she stated flatly.
Raevor was already moving, shouting commands without hesitation.
"Activate the orbital defense network," he ordered, his voice echoing across the frantic room. "Send the reconnaissance fleet to the outer perimeter! All available combat units are to prepare for immediate deployment!"
"Yes, General!" the officers barked in unison.
The command center erupted into motion as personnel scrambled to their stations.
Rhaevia approached the central display, her gaze locked on the orbital view. The spatial distortion above the planet had grown into a massive, dark fissure, its violent edges twisting and tearing like burnt fabric.
Lightning-like streaks of pitch-black energy crawled across its vast surface, ripping through the void of space.
Then, something massive emerged from the darkness.
One enormous warship slowly crossed the threshold of the fracture. Its jet-black armor reflected no starlight whatsoever, appearing as a terrifying void against the celestial background. Angular, jagged structures covered its hull, while unfamiliar weapons were visible along its flanks.
A second colossal ship followed right behind it.
Then a third.
Within seconds, dozens of heavy vessels poured out of the spatial fracture in flawless, menacing sync.
The orbital map rapidly filled with hostile red signals, crowding the planet’s sky.
"Count?" Raevor demanded, stepping beside her.
"Initial estimate: eighty-seven warships," the tracking officer answered, his voice trembling slightly. "Additional vessels are still emerging from the rift!"
Eighty-seven warships.
For a newly established frontier territory, that was not a mere hit-and-run raid. It was a full-scale, devastating invasion force.
Rhaevia watched the dark fleet spread silently across the upper atmosphere, forming a precise, militaristic block around the spatial fracture.
Their movements were far too coordinated for ordinary space pirates, and their advanced stealth technology had successfully bypassed the planet’s outer detection arrays until the final, unavoidable moment.
They had not accidentally stumbled upon this world.
They had come fully prepared for war.
"Open a channel," Raevor ordered coldly.
The communications officer attempted to establish contact, but the holographic transmission dissolved into noise.
"Unable to connect, General," the officer reported, shaking his head. "Their communication frequency doesn’t match any known Imperial, Federal, or frontier network!"
"Then they don’t intend to negotiate," Raevor said, his hand resting on the hilt of his sidearm.
A distant, bright explosion suddenly illuminated the command center’s reinforced observation windows. High above the atmosphere, a brilliant flare of orange light expanded and died in the vacuum.
One of the planet’s primary orbital observation satellites had just been blown to pieces.
Rhaevia’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits.
"They’re testing our response time," she observed softly.
She turned on her heel to face Raevor directly.
"Mobilize the ground defenses," she told him. "I will handle the Zerg."
Raevor turned to meet her gaze, his silver eyes searching hers for a brief, tense moment.
"Don’t overextend yourself," he warned quietly.
"I won’t," she replied smoothly.
He raised an eyebrow, his jaw clenching. "You said that exact same thing before the last experiment."
"That was different," she argued, crossing her arms.
"You were standing directly beside an unstable, active energy reactor," he pointed out, stepping a fraction closer.
Rhaevia tilted her head back. "And I survived, didn’t I?"
"That isn’t the point," he gritted out.
Despite the overwhelming urgency of the sirens, Rhaevia almost smiled at his persistent stubbornness. "General, are you really going to stand here and argue with me while an enemy fleet is preparing to bombard our planet from orbit?"
"No," his deep voice turned to solid steel. "I’m going to ensure you have a battlefield worth returning from."
Their Guide-Sentinel resonance stirred powerfully between them, steady, warm, and thick in the air.
Without another word, Rhaevia closed her eyes and reached out through the planetary energy network.
Beneath the planet’s surface, deep within the subterranean caverns, countless Zerg stirred from their resting places.
Across the surface, throughout the vast crystalline forest, brilliant golden light spread rapidly through the root systems. Terrible creatures that had once hidden away from humanity raised their massive heads toward the dark sky.
Her consciousness touched the vast, waiting collective network.
"Wake up," she broadcasted into the mental void.
The response came surging back instantly from millions of minds.
Our Sovereign.
An enemy approaches, she transmitted, her mental voice ringing like a clear bell across the planet. Protect this world. Do not attack the human inhabitants. Strike only those who threaten our territory.
A massive, overwhelming wave of absolute obedience surged through the planetary network.
[SOVEREIGN COMMAND TRANSMITTED.]
[ZERG DEFENSIVE HIERARCHY: ACTIVATED.]
[PLANETARY NETWORK: SYNCHRONIZED.]
Across the glowing crystal forest, giant crystalline wings unfolded into the night air. Massive armored beasts emerged from deep subterranean tunnels, while coordinated swarms of smaller Zerg moved rapidly toward designated defensive perimeters.
For the first time in recorded history, the planet’s native biological defenders and the ancient Zerg swarms prepared to fight side by side as a single, unified force.
Meanwhile, Raevor moved across the command deck, coordinating the human soldiers, the mecha units, and the underground civilization’s formidable warriors.
Complex defense formations flickered into existence across the display, shielding the city, the research facilities, and the vital planetary energy junctions.
"Keep the civilian evacuation routes wide open," Raevor ordered into his comms unit. "No one engages without explicit authorization. We defend the city’s perimeter first."
Suddenly, a new, blaring alarm sounded through the room, pitched higher than the rest.
"General! Enemy weapons systems are charging!" the sensor officer yelled.
High above the clouds, the hostile fleet shifted its broadsides into an offensive formation.
Hundreds of dark energy signatures began converging on their forward weapons platforms, preparing to rain plasma down onto the planet.
Rhaevia stepped toward the reinforced glass of the main observation window. Radiant, golden Sovereign energy gathered around her fingertips, shedding a warm light that illuminated the sharp, unyielding reflection of her determined face.
"Let’s see who thinks they can take what we’ve built," she whispered.
Raevor stepped silently to her side, his overwhelming silver Sentinel energy rising up in immediate answer to her call.
The two distinct energies intertwined effortlessly in the air.
For one brief, breathless moment, the entire command center trembled as their 100% resonance exploded outward, spreading through the planetary network. The sheer pressure of their combined power radiated up into the upper atmosphere.
High above the planet, the advancing enemy fleet suddenly ground to a complete halt.
Every single warship in the massive armada slowly turned its bow, re-aiming its primary batteries directly toward the command center’s location.
A massive, planetary-scale holographic projection suddenly flared into existence above the planet’s sky, transmitted forcibly from the lead warship.
An unfamiliar, ominous emblem rotated slowly in the darkness of space. It depicted a central star enclosed by three curved, razor-sharp crescents, their pointed tips aiming inward toward a single, piercing vertical line.
Rhaevia stopped breathing, her eyes widening in recognition.
She had seen that symbol before.
She had seen it etched into the captured raiders’ weapons.
She had seen it buried inside the sealed records of the ruined laboratory.
And she had seen it hidden within the encrypted signal that had endlessly followed her fleet beyond Imperial space.
In the next second, Project Genesis responded within her visual field, flashing a series of urgent warnings that made the blood in her veins turn ice-cold.
[UNKNOWN SOVEREIGN FACTION DETECTED.]
[ANCIENT AUTHORITY SIGNATURE: CONFIRMED.]
[HOSTILE ALIGNMENT: CONFIRMED.]
High in the sky, the enemy fleet’s giant flagship began charging its massive primary cannon, gathering destructive dark matter at its core.
Rhaevia stared up at the rotating emblem floating in the night sky, her hand slowly closing into a tight fist.
So this is the faction serving the Third Sovereign.
And now, they had finally come directly to her world to claim it.
