THE SYSTEM IS NOT MINE
Chapter 117: The Presence on the Battlefield
"GENERAL YAN!" Gwalior shouted as he leapt into the scattered shin soldiers that broke through the front liness, his sword coated with fire as he slashed down at them.
"GENERAL YAN!" other soldiers of Han Defu Unit rushed forward with their weapons.
"GENERAL YAN!" Looking at the few soldiers charging, other soldiers followed as well, taking steps toward the enemies.
For a moment, the dust moved toward Shin, and the Shin troops trembled while looking at the charging Noir behind the dust.
Then they clashed. The Noir pushed Shin back.
The Core Formation cultivators of Shin looked at each other. They came to a general understanding and then rushed toward Yan, wanting to crush him right away.
The atmosphere around Han Defu's unit tightened as they looked toward the incoming enemies.
"Let's see who dares to touch my student." Leo shouted as he leapt into the air from near Yan. The wind around him answered his call. He slashed his sword twice, and two crescent-shaped wind cutters moved out.
One went toward a man coming through the air, while another flew at a man riding his horse toward them.
The one in the air slashed his sword. The wind cutter and his wind-coated sword met, and he was pushed back in the air.
Then Leo charged and engaged with him.
The man on the horse coated his sword with ground qi and met the incoming wind cutter. His horse fell as he crashed to the ground.
Similarly, other Core Formation cultivators of Noir engaged with those of Shin.
A commander of Shin, who hovered above a group of Shin archers, narrowed his eyes.
"Fire," he ordered.
Soon, arrows after arrows shot into the sky, all of them aimed at Han Defu Unit.
Especially at Yan.
But the one, who was more affected by the arrows was Chen Yu.
Chen Yu halted for a moment. Memories of the past resurfaced, and several faces flashed through his mind. His eyes moistened, but this time, he clenched his fist.
Looking around, He shouted, "Han Defu Unit, spread out."
The Han Defu Unit, who was fighting shin soldiers, immediately began to moved out.
"I won't let it happen again." Yan said, his voice travelled to the ears of Chen Yu.
Before Chen Yu could even process that he heard, he saw Yan exhaling through his mouth. Bending down to the ground, Yan grabbed a handful of pebbles. He rushed forward, as fast as he could, and all the time, his eyes were on the incoming arrows in the air.
He was trying to run to the very front of the battlefield where Kaizi and the other companions of Mofu were fighting.
Whenever Yan took a step forward, the soldiers who blocked his way slipped and fell to the ground, making his way clear.
The troops who noticed the fall of soldiers voluntarily moved away from his path before Yan approached them.
While Yan was still a bit far from the front lines, the arrows were already above him. They were moving toward Han Defu's unit.
Yan held a pebble in his hand and threw it upward, toward the back edge of an arrow at the forefront of the volley.
The arrow turned to the side and hit another arrow beside it.
One after another, arrows were disturbed from their trajectory and split apart. Yan threw more pebbles, and more arrows turned away.
The shadow of the arrow rain fell upon many soldiers, including those from Shin and Noir.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
And the people who had been looking up the entire time gulped.
BOOM!
The arrows rained down. They pierced through the people. None of them were prepared for the sudden rain of arrows, and many were injured.
But Yan looked at the commander who had ordered the arrow attack.
Yan did not back down and rushed forward toward the enemy lines. The arrows rained on him as well.
Yan avoided many, and even those that fell on him barely did any damage despite his previous injuries, and he entered the enemy lines alone.
"Spread out and fire at him from different angles," the Shin commander ordered as several thoughts ran through his mind.
"But Commander, we will hit our own troops," one of the soldiers objected.
The Shin archers around him hesitated as well.
The commander momentarily went silent, and said, "So you are defying me? So what if we loose some useless shit that gets slaughtered anyway, either we loose them to the enemy or by friendly fire, they die because they are weak."
Meanwhile, the cultivator engaged with Leo looked back, towards Yan.
"Where do you think you're looking? Your opponent is me." Leo's blade collided with his seord and pushed him back in the air.
Then their swords coated wind qis collided again.
Similarly, other Core Formation cultivators of Shin tried to move toward Yan but were intercepted by Noir cultivators.
When Yan reached the enemy formation, he did not attack, the minor number of Noir soldiers that were fighting at this stage looked at Yan and began to fight more vigorously.
Yan simply stood there.
But none of the Shin soldiers tried to attack him first.
Then he said, "Retreat. It's Noir's victory today."
"How dare you?" A fat soldier nearby charged at him. He raised his sword and aimed at Yan's neck, but his foot slipped at that moment, and his vision darkened.
The others saw only a single slash from Yan.
The body of the soldier lay there.
"I said, retreat."
"Attack! He is just one person." Another man rushed from behind Yan.
Yan's blade moved. The soldier had his neck pierced by Yan's sword, which had been thrust from under Yan's arm.
"Cultivation Unit, charge!"
Then they heard a loud shout. The Shin side's cultivation unit was moving toward them on horses. The Shin soldiers moved away, giving them passage.
They rushed at Yan.
But Yan stood there calmly.
Yan took another breath and looked at the incoming cultivation unit of perhaps two thousand soldiers.
A Noir soldier saw back of a lone silhouette facing the incoming horses, raising from the dust, he held a blade in his hand. His shadow demanded an otherworldly presence.
And when the horses were just five steps away from Yan, the horses in the front slipped. The horses at the back collided with those that had slipped.
And they slipped as well. The soldiers fell to the ground.
Some were still sitting and trying to recover, but the lone figure was no longer at the front.
The head of one soldier separated, then another.
Another had his heart pierced through. The lone figure pulled his sword back and fought.
Some soldiers recovered and charged at him.
Some slipped, and Yan's blade flashed across their necks. Others managed to reach him, only for him to redirect their strikes, causing them to lose their lives.
One of the Shin soldiers who had been charging at Yan no longer dared. He trembled, turned around, and ran.
Seeing him, others ran, then another.
The Shin soldiers began to retreat, but Yan was still charging in. He was rushing toward the archers.
"Fire at him now!" the enemy archers' commander shouted.
The Shin archers hesitated, as there were Shin soldiers around, their hands trembled as they still fired.
One aimed his arrow at Yan and pulled the string, but before the arrow even left his bow, he saw Yan throw a pebble into the air.
Then the arrow traveled halfway and hit the pebble. The archer's eyes widened as the trajectory of his arrow changed.
Then Yan stopped, bent down, and picked up pebbles, and walked slowly.
"What are you doing? Fire!" the enemy commander shouted.
The archers pulled their strings, but Yan walked calmly. The arrows rained toward him from different angles, each arrow having considerable distance between them.
But when they neared him, most came back to a similar trajectory; only a few came from the sides, as most archers were still in the opposite direction to him.
The pebbles in his hands decreased as arrows were deflected, and a rain of arrows fell on the running-away Shin troops.
Some shouted in pain, some raised shields, some dropped dead.
But under the rain of arrows, Yan walked among the corpses in a slow and steady manner. Some arrows hit him, but the damage was still minimal.
Then the commander saw the shadow in the arrow rain looking toward him. He took one step back in the sky even if there were no steps.
The pebbles in Yan's hands were emptied, but no archer dared to attack as he walked calmly toward them.
The commander, who hovered in the air, observed the arrows that hit Yan but did not leave any major damage.
"Useless shit of cultivator archers! Learn to coat your arrows with qi. He is a body cultivator." He shouted as he came down, grabbed a bow and arrow, and flew up. He coated the arrow with his Core Formation wind qi and aimed at Yan.
"General Hecta!" Yan shouted.
The commander's expression changed. He clenched his fists, then his gaze darted to one side, then the other, searching for the legendary general.
Yan seized the opening and sprinted back toward Noir's lines.
"Damn you!" The commander realized he had been fooled. His expression twisted with anger as he released the arrow, which surged forward at terrifying speed, enveloped in wind qi.
The path that arrow took compressed the air in the atmosphere. When it passed over the heads of soldiers, the soldiers felt a heavy air force pressing on them, trying to pin them down.
Within moments, the arrow was almost upon Yan. He had reached Noir's lines and was still sprinting toward Han Defu's unit.
The Noir soldiers who witnessed the arrow held their breath.
