The System Awakens: Rise of the Champion
Chapter 308: The Explorers - 3
Chapter 308: Chapter 308: The Explorers - 3
Horus, the God of the Sky, Kingship, Protection, Rule, and Rightful Order, slowly raised his head and looked toward his grandfather, the Elder God King, Ra.
What he saw caused his expression to become grim.
High above, Ra was engaged in a fierce battle against three gods from a foreign universe.
These invaders had come to their universe for nothing but destruction.
They sought to plunder its resources and take everything they could back to their own universe.
They were nothing more than thieves and destroyers.
They brought nothing but pain, suffering, destruction, and the annihilation of life wherever they went.
Horus was a third-generation god of the Egyptian Pantheon.
He was one of the most powerful gods among the entire pantheon, possessing enough strength to contend with Set himself, who was regarded as the strongest battle god in the entire Egyptian Pantheon.
Yet even with such immense strength and power, Horus had been unable to withstand the terrifying effects of the Nether Energy of the Void.
The Nether Energy had continuously burned away his divine energy, life force, and even his physical godly body.
It was only through the power of his grandfather that he had managed to purge the Nether Energy from his body.
Even after it had been removed, however, Horus could still feel the damage it had inflicted upon him.
His energy had been considerably weakened.
Worse still, for some unknown reason, perhaps because of another effect left behind by the Nether Energy, the energy he had lost simply would not recover.
His physical body was different.
After cutting off his wing, one of his hands, and one of his legs that had been affected by the Nether Energy, his body had been able to regenerate normally.
But the same could not be said for his Divine Essence.
The portion of his Divine Essence that had been devoured by the Nether Energy was not recovering.
Horus could feel it clearly.
It was as though his connection to his very source of power had been severed indefinitely.
Because of this, he had been forced to return to his human form.
No matter how much he tried to force himself back into his true godly form, he simply could not do it.
Looking around, Horus soon realized that he was not the only one.
Every god and goddess who had been caught in the explosions was in the same condition.
The Elder God King Ra had used his dominion over his Divine Concept of Regeneration, combined with his other powerful Divine Concepts, to neutralize the Nether Energy within their bodies.
Without Ra’s intervention, they would have already died.
But even after being saved from death, the gods had been left completely immobilized.
None of them could use their Divine Authorities.
None of them could access their other abilities.
They could do nothing but remain where they were and watch the battle unfolding above them.
"To think they could render dozens of gods powerless with a single wave of their attack..." Horus gritted his teeth as he forced his weakened body to stand.
His legs trembled beneath him.
Every movement felt incredibly heavy.
He felt as though he had become a mortal.
That was how weak he had become.
For a god of his level, struggling simply to stand was almost unimaginable.
Yet that was his current reality.
Horus slowly raised his head and stared into the distant sky.
There, his grandfather, the strongest god in the Egyptian Pantheon, was locked in battle with one of the three gods from the foreign universe.
And then Horus saw something that made his eyes widen.
Ra was being overpowered.
The realization struck Horus like a hammer.
His expression became solemn, and a trace of horror appeared within his eyes.
"To think the gods of a foreign universe are actually this strong..."
In the sky, a sudden flash of light erupted, drenching the blue sky in white light.
A drop of light rapidly descended from the sky and struck the land with tremendous force.
At the point of impact, everything within several hundred feet was destroyed, leaving behind nothing but a giant crater.
And at the center of the crater was none other than the Elder God King Ra, beaten to a pulp.
His divine presence was slowly receding. Golden blood leaked from his lips and from the wounds he had sustained.
Worse, the authorities of the invading universe were affecting him.
His own authorities were being cancelled out, making it extremely difficult for him to recover on his own.
"After that big speech about blasphemy and shit, I assumed you would at least put up a fight. But you are just like the rest of them. Just what I would expect from an underdeveloped universe like this."
The invading god, who had the same appearance as the Heavenly Father of the old Biblical pantheon, sneered arrogantly.
His entire body appeared to be made of nothing but pure light energy.
"I applaud your resistance, Sun God," the invading god said as he raised his hand, pointing his palm toward the god lying at the bottom of the crater.
His expression turned cold.
"But it’s time for you to die."
In the next moment, his own divine essence flooded out like unending rivers.
A ball of divine lightning manifested in his hand, growing more and more threatening with every passing moment.
It was like a growing bomb, becoming so threatening that all the gods and goddesses, even those who were far away from the battlefield, could feel how dangerous this attack was.
Judging by the amount of Divine Essence flowing into it, its destructive power was obvious.
If that attack hit the Elder God King Ra, it would vaporize him.
And since this was an attack delivered by another god, the Elder God King Ra would die for real.
True death.
"Farewell, Sun God," the invading god said.
In the next second, he let loose.
The sphere of light in his hand exploded.
An enormous stream of pure divine light mixed with the essence of unknown Divine Concepts shot forth like a single line of energy.
As it traveled toward its target, it grew larger and larger, resembling an inverted tornado of divine light descending from the invading god’s hand toward God King Ra.
In a moment, the attack arrived before God King Ra.
But just as the attack was about to land on Ra, something else happened.
A small purplish-blue glow appeared directly in front of the fallen god.
In the next moment, all the divine light coming down toward Ra instantly vanished as the purplish-blue light sucked in everything like a sponge absorbing water.
In just a moment, all that divine light and all the energy it contained had vanished, as if it had never existed in the first place.
"What the hell just happened?!"
The invading god of light asked out loud in shock and concern as he watched his god-slaying attack vanish into nothing.
His eyes narrowed when he saw a lone figure standing and floating above the crater, directly in the path of his earlier attack.
His hand was still raised, with the remnants of purplish-blue energy lingering around it.
It was clear who had made his divine light attack vanish like that.
"So you are the ones threatening my universe, huh?" Damian asked in the coldest tone, his face distorting into a nightmare as his fury continued to rise.
"Yeah. What are you going to do about—"
He never got the chance to finish.
Before the god of light could even comprehend what was happening, Damian’s figure suddenly appeared beside him.
There was no warning.
No fluctuation of divine energy.
No movement that any of the gods present could perceive.
Damian simply appeared.
Then, without hesitation, he swung his leg.
BOOM!
His foot slammed directly into the god of light.
The impact was so overwhelming that the god’s body was instantly launched downward like a football kicked with monstrous force.
For a brief instant, the god of light felt as though the very fabric of space had warped around Damian’s leg.
Then everything disappeared from his perception.
One moment, he had been standing proudly in the sky.
The next...
BOOOOOOM!
His body crashed into the ground, creating a massive crater beneath him.
The sheer force of the impact tore his body apart.
His upper body had been completely separated from the lower half beneath his chest, leaving him sprawled helplessly within the crater.
For a moment, the god of light did not even understand what had happened.
His mind struggled to process the reality before him.
He had been standing in the sky.
Now he was lying inside a crater with half of his body missing.
Only after that realization finally reached him did the pain arrive.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
His agonized scream erupted across the entire Egyptian pantheon.
The sound of a powerful god’s dying cry reverberated through the heavens, forcing every god and goddess present to turn toward the source.
Only then did they realize what had happened.
But none of them had actually seen it.
They hadn’t seen Damian move.
They hadn’t seen him appear beside the god of light.
They hadn’t seen the kick.
They hadn’t even seen the god of light being sent crashing into the ground.
It was as though time itself had stopped for that single instant.
And Damian alone had continued moving within that frozen moment.
Then, suddenly, time seemed to resume.
The consequences of Damian’s attack finally caught up with reality.
A terrifying wave of pure divine presence erupted from the point of impact, spreading outward in successive waves.
The surrounding space trembled.
The sky shook.
Even the divine atmosphere of the Egyptian pantheon seemed to distort beneath the residual force of that single kick.
The remaining two invading gods could only stare at the scene.
Their faces had lost all traces of arrogance.
For the first time since entering the Egyptian pantheon...
They looked genuinely horrified.
