Chapter 300 -301: Xiao Zhen Gives a Card

“I’m so sorry, Miss Zhao,” Uncle Chai said to Zhao Xuechu. “I failed to discipline my subordinate. Please, forgive me.”

Zhao Xuechu just stood there, stunned into silence.

Li Yang narrowed his eyes.

Just then, Xiao Zhen came out from inside. She froze for a moment when she saw Uncle Chai and the overturned decoction pot, then asked, “Uncle Chai, what are you doing here? And why did you knock over the medicine pot?”

“Miss, one of my men was being careless. I’ve already punished him for it,” Uncle Chai said with a wry smile. “I came today to bring you home. The matriarch’s birthday is coming up, and you need to be back for a few days.”

“Oh, right!” Xiao Zhen slapped her forehead. “I can’t believe I almost forgot.”

Uncle Chai smiled. “The matriarch was very clear. I must bring you back with me. She’s missed you terribly while you’ve been away.”

“Alright, I’ll go pack my things right now.” Xiao Zhen nodded and immediately went back inside to pack.

After a moment’s hesitation, Zhao Xuechu followed Xiao Zhen.

The moment they left, Uncle Chai’s expression darkened, his gaze falling upon Li Yang.

Li Yang’s expression remained neutral, as if he hadn’t noticed a thing.

“Last time, you were the one who saved our Miss, weren’t you?” Uncle Chai stepped forward and asked Li Yang.

Li Yang chuckled. “No thanks necessary.”

“I’m not here to thank you.” All the respect Uncle Chai had shown Xiao Zhen and Zhao Xuechu vanished, replaced by a sneer. “Aren’t you curious? Why didn’t that guy come after you, after you saved my Miss?”

A jolt went through Li Yang.

‘Shen Xu had called and asked about this last time, but he hadn’t paid it any mind. As long as no one came for revenge, it was all for the best.’

“Uncle Chai, what are you trying to say?”

“His entire family is dead!” The chilling expression on Uncle Chai’s face was terrifying. “So, he can’t get his revenge on you anymore.”

Li Yang’s blood ran cold.

‘Uncle Chai was clearly threatening him. He hadn’t said it outright, but the implication was obvious: he was the one who had wiped those guys out.’

‘He’s threatening me!’

“You’d best stay out of the Xia Family’s affairs!” Seeing Li Yang’s silence, Uncle Chai assumed he was scared and issued another warning. “You saved Miss Xiao’s life, so the Xia Family owes you one. I suggest you learn to cherish your good fortune and not mistake our family’s kindness for weakness. Otherwise…”

Uncle Chai left it at that. The message had been delivered.

Li Yang remained silent. ‘This man was clearly someone he couldn’t afford to cross.’

Just then, Xiao Zhen and Zhao Xuechu emerged.

“Hey, Li…” Xiao Zhen shot Li Yang a look, saying resentfully, “In any case, you did save me last time. And even though you look like a total scumbag, I, Xiao Zhen, always repay my debts. So, here’s a million. Consider it my thanks.”

With that, Xiao Zhen took out a card and handed it to Zhao Xuechu. “Xue Chu knows the PIN.”

Li Yang was dumbfounded. “I…”

“Uncle Chai, let’s go!” Xiao Zhen ignored Li Yang and announced to Uncle Chai.

Uncle Chai chuckled, shot Li Yang one last cold glance, and then left.

Soon, their car disappeared from the villa complex.

“Here, take it,” Zhao Xuechu said earnestly, handing the card to Li Yang. “Zhenzhen can be a bit spoiled, but she’s not a bad person. She’s been wanting to thank you, it’s just… the situation between you two is…”

Holding the card, Li Yang couldn’t help but feel a sense of resignation.

‘Well,’ he thought, ‘this was for being a Good Samaritan, not for professional medical services. I guess it’s okay to accept it.’ And so, he put the card away.

“By the way, can you get me some more Ironthread Grass?” Zhao Xuechu asked in a low voice, her expression grim. “I have a feeling they did that on purpose.”

“That just confirms our suspicions,” Li Yang said lightly. “They know the Ironthread Grass helps Xiao Zhen’s condition, so why are they so against her getting treatment? And another thing—Ironthread Grass isn’t a common herb. For him to identify it by scent alone means he must be very familiar with it.”

Zhao Xuechu’s expression turned even grimmer.

“It’s pretty clear now…” Li Yang decided to lay it all out. “According to Manager Zhang, almost all the Ironthread Grass they get is bought up by a mysterious buyer in the North District. The provincial capital is part of the North District, right? So it’s simple. The Xia Family bought it all up. They’re hoarding it, not selling it, and not letting Xiao Zhen use it. So you tell me, what do you think they’re doing with it?”

“But… why?” Zhao Xuechu was baffled. “What could possibly be the reason? I just can’t wrap my head around it…”

“How should I know?” Li Yang gave a dry laugh. “It’s their family’s private matter. An outsider like me couldn’t possibly understand.”

Zhao Xuechu gave a bitter smile. She understood his meaning: he didn’t want to get involved any further.

“Mr. Li, could you please ask Manager Zhang, the one who sells the herbs, for me again…?” Zhao Xuechu said, steeling her resolve. “Zhenzhen is my best friend. If there’s a chance to cure her, I can’t just give up. You understand, right?”
