Chapter 299 -300: Destruction

After getting the Iron Thread Grass, Li Yang immediately headed into the city and went to Zhao Xuechu’s medicinal cuisine shop.

“Here.” Li Yang took out the Iron Thread Grass and placed it in front of her. “Now that you have the herb, you can brew the medicine for her yourself. This has nothing to do with me anymore.”

Zhao Xuechu took the Iron Thread Grass, her face filled with gratitude. “Thank you so, so much,” she said to Li Yang.

‘Iron Thread Grass… Even with all her resources, she hadn’t been able to find it, yet Li Yang had. She was naturally grateful, and also a little surprised.’

Li Yang shook his head. “You don’t have to be so formal with me.”

“Um…” Zhao Xuechu said with a wry smile, “I’m sorry about Zhenzhen. She’s been like that since she was a kid. I hope you won’t take it to heart.”

Li Yang shook his head. “I only helped find this herb for your sake.”

“Oh, right. How much was it?” Zhao Xuechu finally remembered.

“Fifty thousand,” Li Yang said, having no intention of footing the bill for Xiao Zhen.

Zhao Xuechu paid Li Yang the fifty thousand and said happily, “Now I can go find Zhenzhen and brew the medicine for her.”

After getting paid, Li Yang was about to leave. But Zhao Xuechu hesitated for a moment before saying, “Could you do me one more favor? I’m worried something might go wrong while I’m brewing it. Would you mind coming with me to check?”

Li Yang was reluctant, mostly because he didn’t want to see Xiao Zhen’s sour face.

‘The girl was so pretty, but her personality was just unbearable.’

But seeing the pleading look in Zhao Xuechu’s eyes, he could only give a wry smile. “Fine, fine. I’ll go with you and take a look.”

Zhao Xuechu’s face lit up in a smile. “Great, thank you!”

When they arrived at Zhao Xuechu’s villa and opened the door, they were met by Xiao Zhen’s drowsy eyes.

“You…” Xiao Zhen was still in her pajamas, which looked a little loose. Upon seeing Li Yang, she stumbled backward in alarm.

“Don’t worry, I’m not interested in someone as… unremarkable as you,” Li Yang didn’t fail to add with a venomous tongue.

“You!” Xiao Zhen was so furious her whole body trembled.

But Li Yang just smirked and strolled right in.

“Xue Chu, why did you bring him here? Get him out! Tell him to get the hell out of our place!” Xiao Zhen roared.

“Alright…” Zhao Xuechu felt helpless. ‘Why are these two like mortal enemies? They have to argue the moment they see each other.’ “Don’t be angry. He’s the one who found the Iron Thread Grass to treat your illness. Once you take this, you won’t have to suffer like you did before.”

Xiao Zhen’s expression flickered, becoming complicated.

“Aren’t you going to thank him?” Zhao Xuechu prodded.

Xiao Zhen glanced at Li Yang and sneered. “I don’t need him meddling in my affairs.”

Li Yang chuckled. ‘You really never disappoint, do you?’

Zhao Xuechu shot her a glare. “How can you speak to him like that? Do you not want to get better?”

Xiao Zhen huffed. “I’m just saying, whatever the case, I don’t need him trying to get on my good side.”

Helpless, Zhao Xuechu could only give Li Yang an apologetic smile. She decided to ignore Xiao Zhen and went straight to brew the medicine.

Before long, the aroma of the medicine began to fill the air.

Seeing that the process was going smoothly, Li Yang prepared to leave.

“After this, let me treat you to dinner,” Zhao Xuechu offered.

Li Yang smiled and shook his head. “Let’s skip it. Maybe some other time. I’m afraid a certain someone might object.”

Zhao Xuechu gave a wry smile and after a moment’s thought, said, “Alright then. We’ll arrange it for next time.”

Just as she spoke, they saw that more people had arrived at the door.

The sound of hurried footsteps grew closer, and soon, several people entered.

Uncle Chai came in with his men and smiled at Zhao Xuechu. “Miss Zhao, where is Miss Xiao?”

“Uncle Chai, what are you doing here?” Zhao Xuechu asked, surprised. “Zhenzhen is right…”

But just then, Uncle Chai seemed to catch a whiff of something, and his expression changed slightly.

He quickly concealed his reaction, however, and shot a meaningful look at one of the large men with him. The man discreetly slipped away.

“As long as she’s here!” Uncle Chai said, his expression returning to normal. “It’s like this: Madam Xia’s birthday is coming up, and she has sent me to bring the young miss home to stay for a few days.”

“In that case, you should tell Zhenzhen yourself,” Zhao Xuechu said with a nod. She then called toward the other room, “Zhenzhen, Uncle Chai is here to see you!”

Just then, they heard a loud CRASH from the other room, as if something had fallen to the floor.

The color drained from Zhao Xuechu’s face, and she sprinted over.

In the kitchen, the clay pot used for brewing the medicine lay overturned on the floor.

The large man stood there with a bewildered expression. “Miss Zhao, I’m so sorry! I… I was just coming to get a drink, and I didn’t see the pot. I can’t believe I knocked it over. I’m really so sorry.”

“You useless mutt!” Uncle Chai roared at his subordinate. “Can’t you watch where you’re going? Getting a drink? Is this a place for you to be getting drinks? Get out!”

The man looked terrified and scurried out of the room.
