Chapter 38: 38 P1, The Strength of Two Apocalypse Knights

38 The Strength of Two Apocalypse Knights

The camp was illuminated by a full moon, with tents scattered across several strategic points throughout the camp. Dozens of rustic tents occupied the clearing.

Lizardmen and Beastmen were scattered throughout the area, some patrolling while others rested after training.

None of them noticed the figures infiltrating the area just a few meters beyond the darkness of the forest.

The moment Valeria, the Vampire, disappeared into a swarm of bats and Nefrava, the Mummy, dissolved into countless grains of sand, Yun Che remained motionless.

Valeria’s report stated that the entire camp consisted only of enemies in the Tempered Body Realm, with some of them in the Elementary Profound Realm.

He decided to be cautious and send only two of his subordinates while he and the others waited in the shadows in case someone stronger appeared.

If someone appeared whom he and his knights could not handle, he would not hesitate to use his undead to buy time for his escape. Once he was safe, he would end their summons and summon them again.

Yun Che decided to watch the battle, waiting to see if anyone in the Profound Nascent Realm or, worse, the True Profound Realm would appear. If someone in either of these realms really appeared, he would flee immediately.

His eyes followed the two different directions in which his subordinates had disappeared. He had no intention of interfering.

Valeria’s bats crossed through the treetops and entered the clearing from different angles. Some passed over the campfires, others flew close to the ground, and some circled around the tents.

Nefrava did something similar.

Her sand crawled across the ground like a thin, dark stream, spreading between the stones and small depressions in the terrain. Since it was night, no one noticed it happening.

Then one of the bats passed in front of a scaly Lizardman. The warrior raised his head.

"What was that...?"

Before he could continue, the bat suddenly changed direction. At the same time, a small amount of sand slid behind another guard.

None of them noticed when Valeria reassembled herself behind a distant tree. Her body took shape once again, and her ruby-red eyes observed the camp.

"We should move together to deal with all of them quickly and not keep the master waiting."

Her voice was low and elegant, yet loud enough for her companion to hear.

Nefrava emerged on the other side of the clearing, slowly reconstructing her body from the sand as she observed the enemies.

"Of course. We shouldn’t keep the master waiting. Let’s finish this as quickly as possible."

The two were surrounded by a sufficiently large number of enemies to turn the battle into a real problem, but even so, they felt confident they could handle it.

Most of the enemies were in the Tempered Body Realm. However, there were several Lizardmen and Beastmen in the Elementary Profound Realm, which would not be easy to deal with.

Although they were few compared to the entire army, they were precisely the few who could change the outcome of the battle.

Valeria slowly raised the corner of her lips.

"Nefrava, it seems we’ll have to work a little harder than we expected."

Nefrava slightly tilted her head.

"It would be inappropriate to waste such a pleasant night fighting instead of being by the master’s side."

The next instant, the two disappeared once again.

One of the Beastmen carrying a spear heard a noise behind him and turned around, but he could not see anything.

Then a blood blade pierced through his chest, its tip emerging from his back.

The warrior’s eyes widened, unable to believe what was happening.

Before he could scream, Valeria appeared before him, grasped the blood weapon with one hand, and violently pulled it to the side, causing blood to spray through the air.

The body was thrown against a wooden tent, which immediately broke apart. The entire tent collapsed moments later.

The crash drew the attention of the entire camp.

"ENEMIES!"

The shout echoed through the clearing. The Lizardmen drew their swords while the Beastmen grabbed their axes and spears.

The archers rushed to higher positions. For several seconds, no one understood what was happening. They simply followed their training, preparing for the surprise attack.

However, there were no visible enemies.

Then dozens of bats crossed the sky.

"What are these things?"

"No! It must be some kind of technique!"

"Are they Medusas? If so, don’t look directly into their eyes!"

"Where did that woman come from?"

As they shouted, a wall of sand rose in the middle of the camp.

Nefrava emerged.

Bandages shot forward in succession. One crossed the space and wrapped itself around the neck of a Lizardman, while another caught his leg.

Nefrava, the Mummy, pulled both simultaneously.

The body lost its balance and, a second later, was violently dragged across the ground.

The scales scraped against the earth as the warrior tried to dig his claws into the ground. He failed and continued to be dragged.

The bandage hurled him against a tree, and the impact made the trunk tremble. Before he could get back up, small scarabs emerged from inside Nefrava’s clothing.

Hundreds of them crawled over the injured body and entered through the gaps between his scales.

The Lizardman began to writhe as he was slowly devoured.

"AAARGH!"

His spear fell as he tried to tear the insects away, but there were simply too many.

Nefrava simply turned around. At the same time, a rain of arrows cut through the air in her direction.

She immediately noticed the attack. A column of sand exploded around her.

The arrows pierced the barrier, some becoming trapped while others partially penetrated the layer of sand. One of them struck her shoulder.

Nefrava looked at the shaft embedded in her body and pulled it out. However, her expression remained calm.

"Archers."

Valeria appeared beside her amid a cloud of bats.

"They’re trying to restrict our movements."

Nefrava looked toward the hill.

"Then we should take away that possibility and kill a considerable number of them to break their formation."

Valeria smiled as the bats spread out. Nefrava, in turn, launched her bandages.

The two attacks happened simultaneously. The bandages crossed the clearing and restrained the archers.

At the same instant, bats descended upon them as Valeria returned to her human form. The blood of the wounded had already spilled onto the ground.
