The Smiling Death
Chapter 610: Peaceful Life but for how long? [1]
Morning sunlight spread across Elarith City, bathing its familiar streets in warm golden light.
The city was already awake.
Merchants were lifting the shutters of their shops, adventurers were gathering near the guild district, carriages rolled along the wide stone roads, and the smell of freshly baked bread drifted through the streets.
Above them, banners of blue and silver fluttered gently in the morning breeze.
For most people, Elarith was a city full of places to discover.
For Scarlett and Seraphina, however, there was little left to discover.
Both of them had visited the city multiple times before.
So this wasn’t a sightseeing trip. But still it was a day for the three of them to enjoy.
Amon walked between them, his arms linked with both women.
Scarlett walked on his left, her long red hair flowing behind her. She wore a dark olive-green dress that suited her calm and elegant appearance. Her amethyst eyes moved lazily across the street, occasionally settling on something that caught her attention.
Seraphina walked on his right, her long golden-blonde hair shining beneath the sunlight. She wore a soft ivory dress decorated with delicate golden embroidery.
The three of them made an unusual sight.
People glanced at them. Some stared and some whispered.
A few young men looked at Scarlett or Seraphina for a little too long.
Amon noticed. He immediately smiled.
’Of course they are staring. Who wouldn’t?’
He looked at the two beautiful women beside him.
’And somehow, both of them are mine.’
He almost grinned proudly.
Then Scarlett’s voice came from beside him.
"You look pleased with yourself for some reason."
Amon froze, he turned toward her.
Scarlett was looking ahead, her expression almost completely indifferent. Only the faintest curve had appeared at the corner of her lips.
"Me? Not at all."
"Hmm."
She glanced at him. "You’ve been smiling for the last five minutes."
"I was simply enjoying the morning."
"Of course." Her tone made it obvious that she didn’t believe him.
Seraphina chuckled softly. "Amon, you’re not very good at hiding your thoughts."
"Why is everyone suddenly so good at reading me?"
Scarlett’s lips curved slightly upward. "Because you’re predictable. That face of yours is open book to me."
"That’s cruel."
"You’ll survive."
Amon sighed. "Both of my girlfriends are bullying me already."
Seraphina’s cheeks turned faintly pink at the word girlfriends, while Scarlett simply raised one eyebrow.
"Both?"
Amon looked at her.
"Yes?"
Scarlett’s expression remained calm. "I was merely confirming."
"Confirming what?"
"That whether you enjoy saying it."
Amon immediately looked away. "...Maybe."
Seraphina covered her mouth to hide her smile.
Scarlett’s faint smirk returned. It was going to be a long day.
---
Instead of following the usual tourist streets, they turned into a quieter district near the eastern side of the city.
Amon had deliberately chosen it.
There were fewer people here, and the streets were lined with small independent shops rather than expensive establishments.
Scarlett looked around.
"I haven’t been here before."
Seraphina nodded.
"Neither have I."
Amon smiled proudly. "See? I found somewhere neither of you has explored."
Scarlett glanced at him. "Don’t look so proud. It’s one street."
"It’s still a victory."
"Then congratulations."
She gave him the smallest smile.
Amon felt strangely proud of himself. They stopped at a small café tucked between two old stone buildings.
It wasn’t luxurious. There were only a few wooden tables outside, flowerpots hanging from the windows, and a small sign advertising berry pastries.
Seraphina’s eyes immediately brightened. "That looks nice."
Amon smiled. "Then let’s eat."
They chose a table outside. Scarlett ordered black coffee and a small chocolate pastry.
Seraphina chose a berry cream cake.
Amon ordered something called a Royal Berry Tower after the waiter enthusiastically recommended it.
When the dessert arrived, Amon stared at the enormous tower of cream, berries, and pastry.
"...This is supposed to be one person’s portion?"
The waiter nodded proudly. "Of course, sir."
Scarlett calmly took a sip of her coffee. "You ordered it."
"I didn’t expect it to be this big."
Seraphina looked at it. "You can share it with us."
Amon’s eyes immediately brightened.
"Really?"
Scarlett cut off a tiny piece of her pastry. "You’ll probably need help."
Amon placed a hand over his heart. "Scarlett, your concern for me is touching."
"I’m concerned about the dessert."
"..."
Seraphina burst into laughter.
Scarlett’s expression barely changed.
But the faint smile at the corner of her lips betrayed her.
She took the pastry on spoon and brought to to Amon’s lips. He opened and ate it with smile.
Seraphina pout from side and took her spoon, scoping the pastry she also brought it to Amon.
"Amon ahn~"
---
After leaving the café, they continued walking.
They didn’t have a destination. That was what made the day enjoyable. They stopped whenever something caught their attention.
At one small shop, Seraphina noticed a collection of handmade jewelry.
She stopped and Amon noticed immediately. "Something you like?"
Seraphina shook her head. "No. They’re beautiful, but I don’t need anything."
Scarlett looked at her. "You stopped walking."
Seraphina blinked.
"I..."
Scarlett calmly pointed toward the shop.
"You want to look."
Seraphina smiled awkwardly.
"...Maybe."
Amon immediately opened the door. "Then let’s go."
Inside, they spent nearly twenty minutes looking at different accessories.
Seraphina picked up a delicate golden bracelet.
Scarlett examined a dark red gemstone pendant.
Amon looked between them. Then he smiled. "I’ll buy both." Dude without thinking spend his saving on them forgetting he got no job.
But we’ll fortunately for him, his lovers were too rich.
---
After leaving the shop, they wandered toward a quieter riverside promenade.
This was one of the places both women already knew well.
They had walked here many times before. But today felt different.
Just the three of them wandering. Amon leaned against the railing and looked at the river. "It’s peaceful."
Seraphina stood beside him. "It is peaceful. "
Scarlett stood on his other side. She rested her elbows lightly against the railing.
For a few moments, none of them spoke. Amon looked at the two women. Scarlett’s red hair moved gently in the breeze.
Seraphina’s golden hair shimmered beneath the sunlight.
He smiled. "What?"
Scarlett glanced at him. "You’re staring as usual."
"I’m allowed to stare."
"Why?"
"Because you’re my beautiful vampire."
Scarlett stared at him for a moment. Her expression remained composed. Then the slightest smile appeared. "Flatterer playboy."
Seraphina looked at Amon. "You say that to both of us."
"Because both of you are beautiful."
Scarlett’s eyes narrowed slightly. "You’re becoming shameless."
"Perhaps."
Seraphina giggled. "I think he’s always been shameless."
Amon looked betrayed. "Seraphina!"
She smiled innocently. "What?"
Scarlett quietly added, "She’s right." She was totally agree with Seraphina.
"Scarlett!"
This time, the corner of Scarlett’s lips lifted a little more.
