The Sky Was Never Young: Vampire System Apocalypse
Chapter 82: The Crimson Parasite: Inside the Slime-Choked Throat
The agonizing restraint inside his mouth rapidly mutated into an absolute nightmare.
Crack. Freeze.
The liquid ice expanding across his gums hardened into an unyielding shield. Lord Vilucious’s jaw strained. His lips moved. But his throat was a tomb. The air caught in his windpipe, completely blocked by a dense, freezing mass.
The shape-shifted particles had localized with terrifying density around his voice box, twisting together like coils of rusted iron. Every desperate attempt to force a scream through his lips only caused the invisible noose to tighten.
’Why can’t I speak? Move, damn it! MOVE!’ His inner mind screamed, his thoughts spiraling into a chaotic whirlwind of pure, unadulterated terror.
I am the Sovereign! I am the ultimate kingdom maker! Who dares... what is happening to my body?!
He tried to throw his legs off the bed, to stand up and break through the doors, but his limbs refused to respond. The parasite had already flooded his dark blue royal blood, riding the current of his panic to every vital organ.
The supreme monarch of the kingdom could only stare helplessly at the ceiling, trapped in absolute silence as the cold completely locked his joints, leaving him to listen to the frantic, failing rhythm of his own heart.
A desperate, wild thought flared through the monarch’s spiraling panic.
’The shadow protocol... use the system magic... call them!’
In the earlier Chapters, Lord Vilucious needed only to raise a single, commanding hand to assert his supreme authority. With a mere flick of his wrist, his secret militants would materialize out of thin air- surging into the room like a dark, fluid tide, cutting down any threat before him.
He focused every ounce of his remaining royal energy into his right arm, straining to force the gesture.
’Rise!’ he roared inside his own mind. ’Enter! Shield your King!’
Nothing happened.
The fluid, dark blue royal blood in his arms had turned entirely into stagnant sludge. Not a single finger twitched. The terrifying reality crashed down on him: the connection to his hidden forces was completely severed. The magic wouldn’t answer. The system wouldn’t activate.
The secret militants who usually slipped into the shadows before him remained locked away, entirely unaware that their sovereign was being systematically hollowed out from the inside.
He was completely alone in the dark.
A final, raw instinct of survival flared through his freezing chest.
’The left hand... the override sequence...’
Vilucious concentrated the absolute last of his failing willpower on his left arm. Throughout his entire reign, the King had harbored a devastating secret. He had never once shown his true left hand to the court, to Kerwon, or to the world.
Even during the recent colossal bathhouse cleanup, the massive hand gripping the gilded rim hadn’t been real flesh. It was a masterpiece of biological camo: a custom, dummy gloved hand forged to perfectly match his skin color.
It was so seamlessly camouflaged that it hid the true, grotesque magical conduit resting underneath.
That glove held a direct override to his blood magic.
Tear...
Vilucious screamed internally, trying to force the muscles in his wrist to snap the hidden latch within the glove. ’Activate... purge the poison... rip it open!’
But the calculation of the slave in the cellar was absolute.
The shape-shifted particles had already colonized the dark blue royal blood feeding that hidden hand. The freezing iron coils constricted the nerves inside the wrist before the impulse could even reach the camo glove.
The dummy hand lay completely flat against the silk sheets, useless, unmoving, and locked in perfect, terrifying camouflage.
The grand illusion that had protected his throne for years was now nothing more than a static weight pinning him to his deathbed.
Squelch. Pop.
Inside the dark, cavernous hollow of the King’s mouth, the single harvested particle didn’t just multiply... it erupted.
The swallowed spark violently fed on the dense, toxic pool of royal blood-wine, using the monarch’s own apex biology as an accelerant.
Thick, viscous, dark purple slime began to rapidly secrete from the lining of his throat, bubbling upward into his oral cavity. The foul, translucent slime coated his gums, gluing his tongue flat against the roof of his mouth with a sickening, wet suction.
"Mmgh---!"
Vilucious’s jaw strained outward, his facial muscles contorting into a horrific, bulging mask, but the dark purple slime hardened within seconds into a dense, gelatinous cement.
It locked his jaws together in an unbreakable vice. He couldn’t even let out a muffled grunt.
Then, the true visual horror of Cassius’s magic ignited beneath the surface.
Vrrrrm---!
A brilliant, unsettling violet-crimson luminescence began to gleam through the King’s translucent skin. Like an animated sequence of anatomical destruction, the shape-shifted seeds lit up within his circulatory system.
Through the sweeping folds of his sapphire robe, his entire torso began to pulse with a terrifying, rhythmic glow.
Beneath the flawless flesh of his neck, chest, and arms, his dark blue royal blood began to violently curdle and ignite with the parasitic light. The glowing particles shot through his veins like hyper-speed tracer rounds, tearing through his major arteries.
Squish. Crackle.
The parasitic network aggressively invaded his internal organs. Vilucious watched in pure, unadulterated horror as the pulsing crimson glow mapped out his entire anatomy right under his skin.
The glowing threads tightly wrapped around his lungs, constricting his breathing. They bored straight into his stomach and liver, petrifying the tissue and turning his supreme physiology into a glowing, hollowed-out cage.
Every single drop of his ancient, dark blue royal blood was being actively hijacked, converted into a freezing, shining fuel that illuminated the dark bedchamber in a macabre, bioluminescent display of absolute defeat.
The frantic, failing rhythm of his heart echoed like a distant funeral march inside his own skull.
Thump... thump... thump...
Lord Vilucious stared fixedly at the high, vaulted stone arches. His eyes bulged, completely bloodshot, reflecting the horrific violet-crimson luminescence pulsing from his own ruined veins.
The dark purple slime had completely petrified his jaw. His dummy, flesh-colored glove lay mocking and inert against the sapphire silk sheets.
The empire he built, the system he commanded, the secret militants who lived in his shadow; none of it existed within this freezing, hollowed-out cage.
But as the absolute cold reached the final, innermost sanctuary of his consciousness, a completely different, bone-chilling realization bloomed in the dark.
It wasn’t an external enemy he saw. It was the sheer, terrifying perfection of the flaw inside his own biology.
’My blood...’
Vilucious’s mind screamed into the vast, empty void of his impending paralysis.
’The dark blue royal lineage... the ultimate apex evolution... it wasn’t a shield. It was a catalyst.’
He didn’t know who had struck him, or how a single microscopic spark had entered his system. But his brilliant, dying intellect decoded the terrifying mechanics of the trap.
Whoever had done this hadn’t brought a massive weapon or a legendary spell to breach his fortress. They had brought something small. Something dormant... His mind hitting all the theories he knew.
’I thought I conquered the apocalypse...’
Vilucious’s final, fading thought twisted into an internal, horrified gasp as the darkness claimed his sight.
’...but I only perfected the host!’
