The Side Character Wants to Lie Flat
Chapter 698: He Wants to Go Home
“You have to live. Not just for yourself, but for the people who love you.
You’ve already abandoned them once. You can’t do it again.
Listen to me. Put the knife down. We can talk about this…”
Seeing Hua Manman’s expression grow vacant, Mr. Zhu seized the opportunity and lashed out with the porcelain shard!
The shard cut a deep gash across Hua Manman’s abdomen.
Blood instantly gushed out.
A tremor wracked her body from the pain, and she nearly lost her grip on the dagger.
Mr. Zhu seized the chance to shove her aside. He scrambled to his feet, simultaneously shrugging off his outer robe. He intended to wrap it around the gruesome wound on his neck, then call for help to subdue the wretched girl.
But before he could even get the robe halfway off, Hua Manman slammed into him from behind, knocking him down.
He stumbled and pitched forward onto the floor.
His forehead slammed against the floorboards, and the world swam dizzily before his eyes.
Before he could even react, Hua Manman was on his back. She grabbed a fistful of his hair and yanked his head back, forcing it up. With her other hand, she pressed the dagger to his throat.
The gash she’d made earlier was still there.
She wasted no time, pressing the blade right back into it and slicing down.
Mr. Zhu screamed, “No—”
This time, Hua Manman put every last ounce of her strength into it. The sharp blade pressed down, severing the bones in his neck. It sliced through flesh and sinew until his entire head came off.
His scream was cut short.
Even though it was just a single word, the Yulin Guards standing watch outside heard it.
Pounding sounded on the door again, and a Yulin Guard’s voice came through the panels.
“Mr. Zhu, was that you shouting just now?”
Hua Manman casually tossed Mr. Zhu’s head to the floor.
The severed head rolled across the floor, bumped against the leg of a table, and came to a stop. Its eyes were pointed directly at Hua Manman.
His eyes were wide, his face frozen in an expression of utter disbelief.
It was as if, even in death, he couldn’t believe she had actually killed him.
Hua Manman clutched the wound on her abdomen.
Blood was still pouring out, staining her clothes a startling crimson.
Meanwhile, the color was draining from her face at a visible rate.
When no response came, the Yulin Guards outside grew anxious. The pounding on the door became more and more frantic.
“Mr. Zhu! Why aren’t you answering? Are you alright?”
Hua Manman looked at Mr. Zhu’s decapitated body and saw black mist slowly writhing from the stump of his neck.
Clearly, he wasn’t completely dead.
She couldn’t give him a chance to come back to life.
Enduring the searing pain, Hua Manman struggled back to her feet. She bolted the door, then grabbed an oil lamp from a low cabinet and found a fire lighter nearby.
She poured all the oil onto Mr. Zhu’s corpse and set it ablaze.
The moment the flame touched the oil, it spread with a WHOOSH.
In the blink of an eye, Mr. Zhu’s corpse was engulfed by the flames.
Flames leaped and danced across his body.
Having done all this, Hua Manman’s strength was completely spent.
Her back against the wall, she slowly slid to the floor. Clutching the wound in her abdomen, she quietly watched the scene before her.
The firelight flickered across her face, casting a warm glow on her pale features.
She could see wisps of black mist mingling with the flames.
The black mist writhed and contorted violently, letting out a silent scream.
Hua Manman knew it was the last remnant of the Main God’s consciousness.
After receiving no response, the men outside began to ram the door.
The door shuddered under the heavy, booming impacts.
Hua Manman glanced down at her stomach. Blood was still seeping out, forming a small pool beneath her.
Worse, her fingers were turning transparent.
She looked up at Mr. Zhu’s body.
The corpse was charred black, and the black mist swirling around it was growing fainter.
‘It looks like the Main God is almost finished.’
Hua Manman lifted her hand and watched as her palm began to turn transparent as well.
It was as if a powerful, invisible force was forcibly pulling her out of this world.
After several more violent impacts, the bolt finally gave way and broke.
The door was forcefully pushed open from the outside.
But the person who burst in wasn’t one of the Yulin Guards. It was Li Ji.
He had followed Li Qiong to Hanzhang Hall and confirmed that Hua Manman was imprisoned here. He then knocked Li Qiong unconscious and left him in Hua Dingzong’s care. As for the Yulin Guards assigned to watch Hua Manman, he had dealt with them swiftly and decisively.
