Chapter 697: He Wants to Go Home
Chapter 697 -698: He Wants to Go Home
Mr. Zhu endured the pain and spoke with difficulty.
“Didn’t the system tell you? You can’t kill me.”
The system had indeed said something similar to Hua Manman, but she had no time to dwell on the reason right now.
She tightened her grip on the dagger and pressed the blade down hard.
She was going to separate Mr. Zhu’s head from his neck.
She believed that no matter how powerful Mr. Zhu’s healing ability was, he couldn’t possibly reattach a severed head.
In the short time that had just passed, Mr. Zhu’s right thumb had already regenerated.
He raised his hand to grab Hua Manman’s arm, attempting to snatch the dagger from her hand.
Hua Manman went with the motion, raising the dagger slightly before whipping it around one hundred and eighty degrees. Faster than lightning, the sharp blade slashed toward Mr. Zhu’s fingers.
Caught off guard, Mr. Zhu’s thumb and index finger were sliced clean off.
The digits fell to the ground, but no blood flowed out.
Hua Manman pressed the blade against Mr. Zhu’s neck once more.
She glanced at the stumps of Mr. Zhu’s fingers and waited for a moment. She saw black mist slowly writhing at the wounds, as if trying to form new fingers.
But because Mr. Zhu was too weak, his regenerative ability was limited, and the new fingers failed to fully form.
This further confirmed Hua Manman’s suspicions.
If Mr. Zhu was struggling this much just to regenerate two fingers, there was no way he could regrow an entire head.
Hua Manman tightened her grip on the dagger and pressed down with all her might.
This time she used all her strength. The blade drove downward, quickly striking his cervical bone.
The blade got stuck on the bone, its descent forced to a halt.
If he were a normal human, such a severe neck wound would have rendered him unconscious, if not killed him outright.
But Mr. Zhu could still speak.
Due to the injury to his neck, his voice was exceptionally hoarse and garbled.
“If you kill me, you won’t live either.”
As soon as he said this, he saw, just as he’d hoped, Hua Manman freeze.
She stared at Mr. Zhu, her expression a mixture of shock and suspicion.
“What do you mean?”
Mr. Zhu spoke with difficulty.
“You don’t belong to this world. It was my power that allowed you to travel through time and space and come here.
If I die, my power will vanish, and you will vanish along with it.”
As he finished, he couldn’t help but start coughing, causing the wound on his neck to ooze a little black mist.
He looked at Hua Manman. Seeing her grim expression, he knew his words had made her hesitate.
So he pressed on.
“Previously, you might have been able to return to your original world after my death.
But I’ve already erased all traces of your existence in that world. You can’t go back.
Do you know what that means?
It means that once I’m dead, you will become a formless consciousness, adrift in an endless void.
You’ll drift for eternity, until you are completely erased by time.”
His words made Hua Manman’s heart tremble.
She gritted her teeth. “You’re bluffing.”
Mr. Zhu began to laugh, but the gaping wound in his neck made him break into a violent coughing fit after just two chuckles.
Once he caught his breath, he spoke.
“Why do you think I dared to bring you into the Consciousness Sea?
It’s because I was certain you couldn’t kill me. You and I have been in the same boat for a long time.
If I die, you die.”
Hua Manman glared at him, her eyes burning with hatred.
Mr. Zhu watched her with composure.
Even though he was clearly at a disadvantage with his life in her hands, he radiated an aura of having everything under control.
His voice was low, husky, and dark, like a demon’s whisper boring its way into Hua Manman’s ears.
“You might not care about your own life or death, but have you ever thought about what will happen to Li Ji and Li Xun if you die?
You keep leaving them, again and again. Can they handle another blow?
Will they break down? Will they go insane?”
His words carried a powerful, bewitching force.
Images flooded Hua Manman’s mind against her will.
She saw Li Ji, utterly grief-stricken at her “death.” She saw him recklessly diving into the lake to search for her. She saw Li Xun kneeling on the bank, sobbing his heart out…
Each image was like a sharp blade, twisting in her heart again and again.
Emotion and reason waged a war within her heart.
It was almost more than she could bear. The hand gripping the dagger trembled uncontrollably.
Mr. Zhu raised his uninjured hand and stealthily grabbed a shard of broken porcelain from the ground beside him.
