Chapter 449: Chapter 449: The Suspicious Male Janitor

Xu Yingying gazed at the child she had given birth to, and although he had blond hair, she was completely content.

"Don’t you dare look down on him," Old Madam Xu whispered to her husband. "He’s our grandson, and he’s family, just like Ye Feng."

"Oh!" Mr. Xu glanced at Ye Feng, who was tall and handsome with the features of a typical man from Hua Country. He felt a pang of regret but couldn’t let it show.

After all, this was the child his forty-year-old daughter had gone through hell and back to have.

It was no surprise that Mr. Xu felt this way. He was a very traditional man. Even living abroad, he still hoped for his family’s bloodline to remain purely Han Chinese.

But fate had other plans. Now that his daughter had, with great difficulty, finally had this child, he would dote on him all the same.

"Grandma, Grandpa, I’ll have the driver take you home. I’ll stay here to look after Auntie. I’ve hired an experienced caregiver, and once you’re back home, I’ll ask Sister Lian to come over and help with the baby."

Old Madam Xu had been up all night and looked pale and exhausted. "All right. We can’t be of much help here anyway. As long as your auntie and the baby are safe and sound, we can rest easy."

’The hospital facilities are excellent, and there’s a professional caregiver. They should be able to take good care of our daughter and the baby.’

「Early the next morning」

Han Xiaorui heard a noise in the courtyard. Peeking out the window, she saw Mr. Xu and Old Madam Xu had returned.

Han Xiaorui rushed over. "Grandma, Grandpa, how’s Auntie?"

Grandma Xu beamed. "Mother and son are both safe and sound! Right now, Ye Feng and a caregiver are there looking after Yingying. Your grandpa and I are getting on in years and our bodies couldn’t handle it, so we came back to get some rest."

Upon hearing this, Han Xiaorui said at once, "I already had the kitchen prepare some chicken congee. I’ll go wash up, leave Wu Jiao and Wu Yao here to watch the children, and then Sister Lian and I will head over."

"We can leave Sister Lian at the hospital to look after Auntie and the baby. She’s so experienced; we can all rest easy with her taking care of them."

Grandma Xu was very pleased to hear this. "Xiao Rui, thank you for going to all this trouble."

"It’s no trouble at all. When I was pregnant and having my own children, Auntie was always running around helping me. I remember it all very well!" Han Xiaorui smiled. "Now it’s my turn to take care of her!"

After Han Xiaorui washed up, the kitchen had the chicken congee and breakfast ready.

Han Xiaorui left out some distilled water and told Wu Jiao and Wu Yao to feed the baby his formula.

Pingping and An’an were in the courtyard, playing with the dogs.

They were older children, so as long as they stayed within the villa’s courtyard, they were safe.

Han Xiaorui and Sister Lian arrived at the hospital and headed straight for Xu Yingying’s room.

As Han Xiaorui stepped out of the elevator and walked down the hallway toward the room, she noticed a janitor in a surgical mask lingering suspiciously by the door to Xu Yingying’s room.

The area was already spotless, yet the male janitor kept cleaning it over and over.

Suspicious and alert, Han Xiaorui said, "It’s already clean here. There’s no need to keep cleaning."

The janitor flinched and jerked his head up. His eyes darted about in a panic before he quickly lowered his head again. "Right!"

Wen Tao grabbed his tools and continued cleaning his way down the hall.

As she watched the man walk away, Sister Lian grew thoughtful. ’Even though I didn’t get a clear look at his face,’ she mused, ’his back looks somewhat familiar.’

Han Xiaorui narrowed her eyes. She had an excellent, almost photographic memory.

’I remember seeing a male janitor who seemed a bit odd when I came with Xu Yingying for a prenatal check-up before,’ she recalled.

Just then, Ye Feng opened the door. "Xiao Rui, you’re here."

Han Xiaorui nodded. "I am. Where are the bodyguards?"

"This is a hospital; it should be fine, right?" Xu Yingying’s voice drifted from inside the room. "The bodyguards worked hard all night yesterday, so I sent them home."

Han Xiaorui was unconvinced. "You can’t just send all of them away!"

"It’s fine. Ye Feng is here, and he hasn’t left. Plus, I have a private caregiver looking after me and feeding the baby," Xu Yingying replied. Then she saw Sister Lian. "Oh, and Sister Lian, too! What delicious food did you bring for me?"

After getting some sleep, Xu Yingying had regained some of her energy and was starting to feel hungry.

"Sister Lian made chicken congee," Han Xiaorui answered. "Here, eat up. Don’t worry about gaining weight. The baby needs to nurse. Look at me, haven’t I slimmed down already?"

Before her pregnancy, Xu Yingying had always been careful about her figure, and she was just as mindful during it.

But now that she had the baby, seeing his chubby, rosy cheeks made her heart overflow with motherly love. ’If I eat more, I’ll have more milk, and the baby can eat more and grow stronger.’

"Okay, I’ll listen to you," Xu Yingying said with a smile, taking the bowl of chicken congee from Sister Lian. "Sister Lian, your cooking is simply the best. This tastes amazing."

It was lightly salted, but the chicken congee was delicious.

It was Sunday, so Ye Feng didn’t have work, but after a sleepless night, he was starting to feel drowsy.

"Ye Feng, you should go home and get some rest. You can come back this afternoon to be with Auntie," Han Xiaorui said. "I’ll stay here for the morning."

Ye Feng thought for a moment, then nodded. "I’ll make a call and have the bodyguards get here as soon as possible."

"Good," Han Xiaorui agreed. ’Every time I come to this hospital, I get a bad feeling.’

’It’s not that the service or the medical care is bad. It’s this feeling of being watched that I don’t like.’

After Ye Feng left, the bodyguards took up their positions outside the door.

While Xu Yingying was eating her congee, Han Xiaorui looked at the baby in the bassinet. "Oh my," she cooed, "this little mixed-race baby is so delicate-looking. He’s going to be a real heartbreaker when he grows up."

Xu Yingying said proudly, "When I was dating Luo’er, I was attracted to how handsome he was. I even found a chance to look at his medical report—perfectly healthy, no diseases. Now that the baby’s born, it proves all my hard work paid off."

Han Xiaorui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’My aunt really was raised overseas. And at her age, she’s so open-minded about everything.’

’My aunt doesn’t lack for money, and certainly not the money to raise a child, which is why she chose to have a baby without a father in the picture.’

’How should I put it?’

’Morally, she feels no pressure. Legally, she doesn’t want any entanglements. And biologically, as long as they never meet, neither of them will ever know the other exists.’

As long as her aunt was happy, that was all that mattered. Han Xiaorui wouldn’t pass judgment on anything else.

"Have you thought of a name for him?" Han Xiaorui asked.

"I’ll let Dad pick his formal name," Xu Yingying answered. "But I’ll give him a nickname. What about ’Goldie’? His hair is golden-yellow."

Han Xiaorui was exasperated. "Auntie, I know a nickname doesn’t have to be formal, but you can’t just pick one so casually! It reminds me of a Golden Retriever. That’s so disrespectful to the baby!"

Xu Yingying was taken aback for a second, then burst out laughing. "Fine, what do you suggest?"

"You’re his mother, you should take your time and think of one," Han Xiaorui said with a smile, not wanting to usurp Xu Yingying’s right to name her own child.

Xu Yingying thought for a moment. "This little guy is my precious treasure. What about ’Bao Bao,’ or Little Treasure?"

"Well..." Han Xiaorui smiled. "If you like it, that’s what matters. Little Treasure... is nice, too."

’My aunt has such fashionable taste, but not when it comes to names!’

While Han Xiaorui and Xu Yingying were discussing the baby’s name, the man in the blue janitor’s uniform stood in front of a mirror and slowly removed his mask.

Staring at his own drastically changed reflection in the mirror, the hatred in the man’s eyes intensified.
