The Scowling Sidekick: A My Hero Academia Fanfiction
Well, You Weren’t Invited
After cleaning the dishes from dinner, they separated us into teams, and Ayaka got paired with the nerd, and I was by myself. I couldn’t help but find myself glaring at the nerd, but Sir Floof came out and rubbed against my leg to try and calm me down. I sigh and bend down to pet him, and Yaoyorozu says, “You can join our group, Sekai.” She points to herself and the sparkling idiot, and I pout a bit, “B-b-but I want to be in Ayaka’s group.” Mandalay says, “There is no way we are sending the two love birds off in the darkness, ALONE.” I groan, and the others laugh, and that just makes me flustered, and I want to fade into the background. Mandalay tells me to join Yaoyorozu’s team, and I stretch some finger skin to hold her hand long-distance while I wait to go with these two.
It is time for our test of courage to begin, and Sir Floof wanted to join. I have been craving a jawbreaker all day, but I was busy quirk walking that I never got to taste one, so I pop one in my mouth and blink in place on accident, happy to taste this beautifully sweet candy. Yaoyorozu says, “I don’t really like these.” She says, looking around, worried, scared about the test of courage. I don’t think the other class can do anything to scare me, since I know what true fear is. They might at most surprise me, though. We got to one group of Class 1-B’s students, and this girl’s head popped out of the ground suddenly. Sir Floof jumped into my arms adorably as I petted him to comfort him. Yaoyorozu and Aoyama both let out a scream briefly while the students from Class 1-B laugh. We continue on, and something is wrong, and weird purple smoke starts filling the forest. I ask, “Do any students in Class 1-B have a quirk like this?” Yaoyorozu shakes her head, and I teleport them to safety above the treeline while Yaoyorozu starts making gas masks. I see in the distance smoke from fire, and I think we are under attack.
I ask Sir Floof, “Can you use your Misty Terrain quirk on the area with smoke? If it is deadly, your quirk will prevent the worst outcome.” He chirps and uses his quirk, filling the area with smoke with his mist. I tell him, “Thanks, Sir. Go back into your ball for now. I might need your help later, ok bud?” He chirps and returns to his ball, and we all put on masks. Yaoyorozu hands me several and says, “You have thermal vision, right?” I nod, and she continues, “Go help any others you see in this smoke.” I nod, and I turn on my thermal vision and I spot students from afar and teleport close to hand them masks. Then, I teleport high to locate the next group, careful not to look in the direction of the fire with my thermal vision. I keep doing this until everyone in the smoke is protected. I saw someone in the center, who I assume is the culprit behind the attack, so I avoided him. I am more worried about Ayaka, so I teleport back to the waiting area and see Ayaka running away with the other students towards the lodging area.
When I teleport by her side, she sighs in relief and says, “Thank god you are alright. How are the others?” I tell her about the weird smoke and how Yaoyorozu made gas masks for everyone, and she sighs and mentions something about the nerd going to get Kota from his favorite hideout. I tell her, “I think I have a lead on where that may be. I will go check on them.” I kiss her and she says, “Be careful. These guys called themselves the Vanguard Squad to the League of Villains." I nod and say, “They managed to make that clubhouse name even more stupid.” After I said that, I had them huddle and teleport them quickly to the lodgings, then immediately teleport in the sky and look toward the mountain where the nerd was going with that curry that one time. I used my thermal, and I see three heat signatures on a cliff over there. I switch to night vision and zoom and see the nerd beaten and bruised, fighting this giant, bulky villain. I teleport higher and start to nosedive, prepping for an attack to assist. Since that guy is so huge and the nerd’s power doesn’t seem enough, I think I might try to pair the chakra repulsion with the armament hammer after contact for an extra impact. I think I will call this move Meteor Hop.
The villain doesn’t notice me until it is too late, and I slam into him and repel him with my chakra to make an even bigger crater in the side of this mountain. I let go of him and teleport away since I don’t want to get hit by this villain and help the nerd up. I call Kota over to teleport us all to safety, but the villain steps out of the crater and says, “Was that all you had, little girl?” He looks at me and chuckles, “Hey, you were on the list, too. Sekai the orphan, was it? I will be taking you back with me.” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. Fat chance, villain.” The nerd tells me to take Kota and go, but he obviously needs help. Then I think of Sir Floof. I call out Sir Floof and I ask him, “Can you use your helping hand quirk on the nerd over there, Sir Floof?” He chirps and uses his quirk.
The nerd uses his quirk and punches the villain, and the villain asks, “Did you get a little stronger? No matter, it still doesn’t have any effect on my muscles.” I pick up Sir Floof and whisper, “If I teleport us close, can you hit him with your tail whip quirk? We may need to do it several times.” He chirps in approval, and I teleport us to the villain behind him, and Sir Floof uses his Tail Whip quirk. The moment his tail stops touching the villain, I teleport us away, and we repeat several times while the nerd catches his breath. The nerd says worriedly, “Whatever you are doing doesn’t seem to be working.” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. Trust the process, nerd!” The villain says, “Get back here, little girl, and come quietly. I don’t want to have to get rough like with your friend here.”
I grimace and say, “Ew. Me, friends with that nerd? No thanks.” He asks while trying to hit me and Sir Floof, attempting to interrupt our plan, “Then why are you even here?” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. For a dumb villain, you sure ask a lot of questions.” The villain growls, “I don’t like your attitude, little girl.” I sigh, thinking how he kind of reminds me of a shorter version of that mammoth villain from Wano with his speech. Key words here ‘kind of’. That mammoth villain said the same words. After a while, Sir Floof looks like he exhausted his tail whip quirk, and I ask Sir Floof, “Can you use your helping hand on the nerd again? Or do you need some rest?” Instead of chirping, he uses his helping hand quirk, and I yell to the nerd, “You are up, nerd! Give him everything you got!” The nerd says, while his arm glows while glaring at the villain, “100 percent Detroit Smash!” The villain gets knocked out and crashes into the side of this mountain, and doesn’t seem to be waking up.
The nerd asks while holding his broken arm, “What did you do, Sekai?” I have Sir Floof take a rest in his pokéball and I teleport them away as I give the nerd a brief synopsis of what Sir Floof did. He says, “I will need to ask you more about that later, but right now we need to help Kacchan!The villains are after him and you!” I sigh, “Let’s get Kota to safety, then we can go check on that spiky bastard. He can handle his own until backup arrives… That spiky bastard is resilient if anything else.” The nerd sighs, “Yeah…” I give the nerd a glance over, and he seems to be in a mixture of shock and adrenaline high because he has loads of broken bones. I ask him, “Are you sure that you will be ok to check on that bastard in your condition?” The nerd says with watery, passionate eyes, “I have to be.”
{Ayaka’s POV}
When Sekai’s group left and she retracted her skin she was holding me with, she gave me the cutest, pitiful look on her face that made me want to squeal and squeeze her tight. Instead, I just blew her a kiss, and she caught it and went with the others in a depressive slump. After a couple more groups go, my Observation Haki goes off, and it was a little slow because Pixie-Bob was getting pulled by a quirk and restrained by some villains. One looks like a lizard villain who looked up to Stain, judging by his red scarf and eye mask. The lizard dude introduced themselves as the Vanguard Squad of the League of Villains. Sekai would have totally made fun of their name. I can totally save Pixie-Bob, but I will have to remove my clothes for this since I don’t have a jawbreaker from Sekai. I hope she is ok.
I tell Mineta, “You better not be gross unless you want another case of the runs.” He nods, and Ida just has him turn around and covers his eyes while I remove my clothes and get flustered being in my underwear. I go into 5D and I run to Pixie-Bob and pull her into 5D with me and the villains are looking around, confused. I take her behind the other students to safety before returning her to 3D, and the villains see and try to attack me and Pixie-Bob, and Mandalay says, “Go, now! Take Pixie-Bob and get to safety! Leave the villains to us! Class rep, you are in charge on the way there, and do not engage with villains!” We nod, and Ida and Koda help carry the unconscious and wounded Pixie-Bob while I quickly get my clothes back on. Midoriya yells to Mandalay, “I know where Kota is!” Mandalay says, “Get him and then immediately come back to safety, got it?” He responds, “Got it!” while zooming off.
As we are getting near the edge of the waiting area for the test of courage, Sekai teleports beside me, and I sigh in relief and ask her about the others, and she tells me of this weird smoke that sounds from a villain's quirk and how she and Yaoyorozu passed out gas masks and used Sir Floof’s quirk before coming here. When I told her what happened on our side, as we continued to walk to the lodgings. Her reaction to the league of villains ‘vanguard squad’ name was just what I thought it would be. She teleports us quickly to the lodgings and then teleports away to help Midoriya and Kota. Mr. Aizawa seems to be fighting a villain, and he tells us to stay back. The villain melted, and he told us to go inside, and we did as he said.
Not long later, while waiting with our classmates, we got a message from Mandalay's telepathy saying that Sekai and Bakugo are being targeted by the villains. After hearing this, I started crying, “Sekai, I am coming!” Ida and Sato and the others hold me back, and Ida says, “You can’t go, Kubo. Mr. Aizawa gave a clear directive that we must stay here.” I yell, “I have to help her! What if something happens to her?!” Not long after that, the message about us fighting back went out, and I tried to take off my clothes to bypass them, but Sero wrapped me with his tape to restrain me. I yell, “Let me go!” I sob uncontrollably, and Garlic comes out and whines and headbonks me gently to help comfort me as I cry in worry for Sekai. Vlad King, the teacher for class 1-B, says, “That directive was for the students in the woods for only self-defense. You must stay here.”
Students are arriving here very quickly, which tells me Sekai is trying to rescue students anyway, ignoring Mandalay’s telepathic announcement. After a couple of minutes, Sero and a few others are dragging a flailing Bakugo in here, all bound just like me. There are some noises like we have company, and some students are asking if it is Mr. Aizawa returning. Though Vlad King and I both realize it is an enemy and he jumps and saves the students by the door as blue flames come exploding through the door forcefully. Sato is carrying me since he is strong, and all of the students are backing up away from the villain, who apparently is the scar-faced villain who melted earlier. Vlad King traps the villain with his blood control quirk on the wall, and the words coming out of the villain’s mouth make me scream into my binds as tears pour down my face.
{Sekai’s POV}
On our way back, the nerd says, “Can you drop me off here? I need to go see Mandalay quickly and let her know that the villains are after you and Kacchan.” I nod, and he continues, “Keep taking Kota to safety for me.” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. This brat was the main reason I went to find you in the first place. So duh, obviously.” He thanks me and zooms off quickly to Mandalay. I continue teleporting back and run into Mr. Aizawa and he asks me for an update and I tell him about how the League of Villains are here for me and that spiky bastard and he sighs and says, “I’ll take the kid, you go to Mandalay and tell her that I gave both Class 1-A and Class 1-B permission to fight the villains to protect themselves. Once you do that, try your best to use that quirk of yours to get your classmates to safety and avoid contacting villains if you can.”
I nod while handing him the brat, and I teleport quickly to the area where Mandalay was fighting some villains. As I was getting there, she was putting out a message alerting everyone that they were after me and ‘Kacchan’, and the nerd was gone already. I immediately tell Mandalay about Mr. Aizawa’s message about giving students permission to defend themselves as they are restraining the now unconscious villains. She then put out a separate telepathic message to everyone, and I teleported high in the sky and used my night vision since the fire has spread and used zoom to locate the other students. I don’t know where that spiky bastard is, but I guess I can do what Mr. Aizawa asked and help the others… Only because Mr. Aizawa is alright, and I know that Ayaka would be upset if something happened to one of our classmates.
I think I should help the classmates in the direct vicinity of the gas first. I start with the unconscious ones first. Systematically rescuing the scattered students. I find several students from the other class with some carrying unconscious students, and I have them huddle, and I teleported the whole group back outside the lodgings and went back out. I look directly at the circle of gas to see that all that is left are three people and one in the middle. I am still assuming that the person in the middle of this circular smoke is the culprit. Though it seems that the two students are now engaging with the villain in the gas. I don’t know who is fighting because I can’t see through the purple gas with my other attachments. I keep my thermal sight on in the fog, and it isn’t that bad once I get used to the feeling of seeing both at the same time.
I don’t know how long this mask I am wearing is going to last, so I have to be quick. I get to them pretty quickly, and the villain is wearing a bunch of gear. I hear the villain shoot a student, but I see that he shot the metal dude (breaking his mask), so he is fine… for now. I make an armament vest on the front of my torso to protect my vitals and my face, and I teleport behind the villain. He turns quickly and shoots me in the chest, and the bullet bounces off, but it still hurts. I used gunhead martial arts to take control of his hand on his weapon and took him down. The girl from the other class says, “I don’t think he can withstand the gas. Take his mask off, Tetsutetsu.” He responds with a head nod since he can’t breathe right now, and the guy turns off the quirk immediately. This ‘hard’ head here punches the shit out of the villain, knocking him out while Kendo wraps her giant hand around him to restrain him. I then teleport them back to the lodgings and get back out there.
I ran into the spiky bastard next, and he yelled to me, “Get out of here, loser!” As he is dodging some blade villain, shooting blades from his mouth. I use Meteor Hop, breaking some blades, and he crashes into the earth, making a crater. That seemed to put this villain out of commission, and I teleported the spiky bastard (obviously against his will), Two-toned, and the unconscious guy to the lodgings, and Two-toned offered to escort me to check on the rest of the classmates, since I'm being targeted while passing along the unconscious student on his back to the others. Knowing this dude is a powerhouse, I shrug, and before that spiky bastard can try to hitch a ride, Sero comes out and tapes up Bakugo, and he violently squirms in the tape and screams underneath the tape on his mouth. Two-toned said, “I heard sounds like Dark Shadow was near where we once were. I suggest we go there next to check on Tokoyami.”
I shrug while continuing to teleport us, “Yeah, sure.” We get there, and we see the nerd and Shoji running from Dark Shadow, who is going out of control. I teleport Two-toned near Tokoyami so he can tame Dark Shadow with his flames, and the nerd says, “We need to save Kacchan!” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. Chill, nerd. He is taped up like a burrito in the lodgings as we speak.” He sighs, and it seems that that sigh allowed him to relax enough that he passed out from the trauma of his injuries. Tokoyami is on his knees, upset, talking about how he let his quirk get out of control and hurt Shoji. We aren’t going anywhere while he is losing his shit, so I let Shoji talk him down before we get the fuck out of here.
Like I have been doing all night, we are taking the most direct route back, and we stumble across Uraraka and Tsu, who were fighting a girl wielding a knife, and Uraraka seems to have a knife wound on her arm. Putting everything together, this girl is obviously a villain, and she says, “Too many people. I don’t like parties.” Tsu yells, “Stop her! She has Uraraka’s blood, and we don’t know what her quirk is!” The villain runs off, and since I am only worried about rescuing our classmates, I let her run. Tsu talks about how that chick was crazy, and Uraraka runs to the unconscious nerd on Shoji’s back, worried sick, “Oh no, Deku!” While I am distracted, looking at her, everything goes blank.
The next thing I remember is being held by the neck by a villain, not able to remember what just happened, and how I ended up in this position. I whisper to Sir Floof, “Go to Ayaka for now, Sir Floof.” He jumps out of his pokéball and goes to my classmates, who apparently were trying to get me back, and it seems like the smoky warp villain has a gate here that I am actively passing through. I don’t know who has me by the throat, and teleporting now could be very risky in my current situation. The last thing I remember before being sent to a new place is seeing the extremely worried look on my classmates' faces.
