The Scowling Sidekick: A My Hero Academia Fanfiction
Teaming Up With Gang Orca
It has been a few days, and every day we have been going to UA to practice quirk walking on water, and we are getting better at it. Ayaka doesn’t need help anymore, and I do alright as long as I don’t lose focus. I don’t think that I would be able to use this in combat just yet. Our new hero costumes have been completed. Ayaka had to get her leotard updated since it would rip when she used her tentacles, so she changed her hero design completely. Her hero outfit now is black with purple accents, with lots of holes for her tentacles and little enough clothing to make her flustered, while also not being too inappropriate, with a utility belt that has her Pokéball on it and a few pouches, which contain her phone and also pieces of paper for her quirk. Her outfit was made to allow her to fully transform as well, so she won’t be naked after toggling forms. My costume is like my old one, but instead of greens and blues that were common in the leaf village, it is all black with pink accents to match my hair (Ayaka’s idea). It has a hood, mask, and is completely sleeveless, so I can freely use my arm skin as necessary during combat. It also matches my black lifejacket, which is a plus, though it wasn’t necessary because that life jacket could have been any color, and I would wear it. Even though I can walk on water now, I would much rather not try to test fate.Water still very much scares me.
We finally got the call from Principal Nezu, so we grabbed our backpacks that were already packed with what we needed and headed to UA after stopping to let the police officers know first and that we would soon have a pro-hero escort for the rest of the day and for a while after today. The officers were appreciative of the communication, since we haven’t been the best at it in the past with them, but we are trying to be better. It isn’t like we were trying to ignore them. We just forgot they were there. Like always, we quickly made it to campus because of my quirk, and we headed straight to Principal Nezu’s office and knocked. He said, “Come on in, children.” We walked in and saw Gang Orca here, and he is taller than I was expecting. Still nowhere near as tall as those villains in Wano, but his approximate 200 centimeters in height is still impressive in comparison to my 158 centimeters. Ayaka is only a little taller than me, coming in at 160 centimeters.
Principal Nezu is in his chair, sipping on his tea like normal, and says, “Welcome, children. I just finished briefing Gang Orca here about the current situation and your plan to restore All Might’s health. We even talked about extending this team up while you get the ones on land as well, to minimize the amount of heroes knowing of the dragon balls' existence.” We nod, and Gang Orca reaches out his large hand to both Ayaka and me in greeting, and Gang Orca says, “Pleasure to work with you. While you are with me, if anyone asks you, both are interns, and in lieu of that, we will need you both in your hero costumes.” We nod, and Ayaka is bursting with excitement, ready to wear her new costume. Gang Orca says, “I know you can teleport, but I have an entourage with me today with sidekicks, so after you change into your costumes, meet me out front.” We nod and we go change.
Ayaka looks so good in her new costume, and when we walk outside, she is blushing, flustered with her costume. She says as we walk out to meet Gang Orca’s entourage, “You look so cool, Sekai.” Her blushing face as she says that makes me want to kiss her. She would probably be able to tell if I wasn’t wearing this mask on my face, along with this hood. I stammer, “Y-you, too.” Gang Orca opens his large black limo-styled SUV’s door, and we sit in the back row while Gang Orca says to his sidekick outside, “Take the other vehicle back to the agency, and protect Musutafu while I am gone.” He replies, “Yes, Boss.” I look out the tinted window to see him and several other sidekicks go into the other large black SUV. Gang Orca then comes in and sits on the side with the glass that separates the back and the front. Gang Orca points to a refrigerator and says, “If you are thirsty, help yourself to some water. You both are still underage, though, so don’t touch the sake in there.” We nod, and Ayaka says, “We wouldn’t want to put you in a bad spot, sir. Thank you for helping us.”
Gang Orca crosses his leg in the abundance of space between us that he obviously needs with his long legs and says, “Thank you for considering my position. As for helping you, I have a vested interest as I want to see All Might return as well. Though, due to the nature of our mission, please don’t speak about the details out loud. You never know who might be listening. There are many people with surveillance quirks, or tapping technology that can pick up conversations.” We nod, already understanding how dangerous saying too much out loud can be.
He says, after reaching into the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water, “Principal Nezu explained to me that you teleport, can stretch your skin, but can’t swim, and that you can turn yourself invisible or a drawing when you are flustered and are an octopus. I don’t see anything octopus on you, though?” Ayaka turns her fingers into tentacles, and Gang Orca says as he opens his water, “Fascinating.”
Since we are in a coastal prefecture, we got to our destination pretty quickly, and we got out to see a dock with a nice-looking submarine docked and already prepared for boarding. I put on my life jacket just in case I fall off the top. Several of Gang Orca’s sidekicks are standing guard over the vessel and greet us as we board on top of it. Gang Orca boards last and tells his sidekicks that he doesn’t need any more help and that he will pilot the ship, and tells his number 1 sidekick that he was in charge of the agency until we return from our voyage. They looked a little confused since I am guessing they always went along with him before, but they nodded and said, “Yes, Boss.”
This submarine is huge.
I mean, I know why it has to be because of how tall he is. He gave us a quick tour, showing us where we would sleep, use the restroom, shower, eat, and the common areas like the exercise room that has cabinets filled with pre-packaged protein drinks (which I will be using to get stronger, since I am still weak as fuck), the kitchenette and other areas where we were allowed to chill in. He told us to avoid going into his room and office space since there are things that we shouldn’t see there. Not like I wanted to go into a grown man’s room anyway, and once the tour was complete, he took us to the control room that pilots the submarine. He hits a series of buttons to turn it on, then another button, and the anchor lifts, which we see on a camera. We pull out the radar and show it to Gang Orca, and he says, “Looks like the nearest one is in China’s waters. Let me radio their Naval Base and let them know that we will be entering their waters briefly for a ‘training exercise with interns’, and would appreciate their cooperation. We wouldn’t want any surprises since they have the technology and quirks to detect submarines.”
He gets on his radio as he sets us on course for the first dragon ball and adjusts the frequency, “Hangzhou Naval Base, this is Orca One, do you copy?” … “We copy, send your transmission.” Gang Orca responds, “Orca One is requesting permission to briefly enter your waters approximately 200 nautical miles from your coast for a training exercise.” … “Copy, what is the nature of this training mission, Orca One?” Gang Orca responds, “Orca One is requesting a training exercise for an octopus-type intern in avoiding different sea creatures, and the ones in your waters are slightly different from Japan’s waters. Orca One will not engage in combat with any sea animals to not upset the local ecosystem.” … “Copy. One moment, Orca One. We will reach out shortly with confirmation.” Gang Orca responds, “Copy.”
After several minutes, they came back on the radio, “Orca One, do you copy?” Gang Orca responds, “Copy, send it.” … “Orca One, your request for permission to enter waters has been granted. Though our Navy Admiral requests to see you before you go.” Gang Orca responds, “Orca One copies.” We continue to our destination, and Gang Orca asks us, “So, have you thought about what you would do if someone is in possession of one and didn’t want to part with it?” Ayaka and I both sigh, and she says, “Then I guess we would have to offer something even greater/rarer in exchange.” Gang Orca asks while turning to us in his rotating pilot’s chair, “Do you know of anything better or rarer?” We shake our heads, and Ayaka says, “Not yet, but due to the nature of Sekai’s quirk, we would be able to acquire something that would be of equal or greater value. Her quirk is how we learned how we can heal All Might.”
Gang Orca asks, “So how exactly does your quirk work, Mochizuki? I know you can teleport, but how exactly does that help us?” I sigh, and Ayaka asks me, “Can we tell him the full story, since he is helping us?” I sigh and think about it. I mean, as long as All for One doesn’t figure out that his suspicions of me are correct. I say, “I guess, as long as he doesn’t say anything. If All for One realizes that his gut is correct, then I would be in even more danger.” Ayaka then tells him about the details of my quirk and how All Might’s nemesis has expressed interest in it.
As she tells him, I find myself clutching my knees on the sofa here in the control room, trying to keep my cool. Sir Floof comes out and places his ribbons on me. My quirk isn’t only embarrassing, but because of its nature, it is coveted. That, and hearing everything like this, reminds me of being kidnapped and feeling those horrible things while being a blind burrito. Ayaka strokes the back of my head as she tells him most everything, while I just try to tune everything out.
At the end of Ayaka’s explanation, Gang Orca says, “That quirk sounds very inconvenient. I can’t imagine what you are going through, since my quirk is innate… obviously.” He says as he motions nonverbally to his orca body. I sigh and clutch my knees tighter and say with a hint of attitude, “Tsk. Duh, you know I have eyes, right?” Ayaka, who was stroking the back of my head, lightly bonks it, and I sigh. Gang Orca turns in his rotating pilot’s chair and looks at the screens and says, “At our current speed of 40 knots, we should reach our destination in about 22 hours. I currently have the controls set to autopilot for now. If you hear an alarm, it is probably to alert us of something in our path, and anything like that, I will take care of. In the meantime, I have a collection of movies there under the TV on the back wall if you get bored.” Ayaka immediately gets up to browse the movies.
After a moment of browsing, she sighs and says, “Sekai, you aren’t going to like their selection. Every single one is a hero movie or has heroes in it.” I sigh, and Gang Orca asks, “Why does a hero student not like hero movies?” Ayaka says on my behalf since she can tell I am irritated, “Heroes haven’t exactly been there for her in the past, so she isn’t exactly their biggest fan.” Gang Orca places his hand on his forehead, sighing, and says, “I should have realized that question was in poor taste. I apologize. I have had my own problems because of my appearance with heroes in my past, so I understand where you are coming from.” I sigh, and Sir Floof bonks me with his head. I asked him, “Do you want to get in my lap?” He chirps and hops up on the sofa immediately, and I drop my legs to the floor so he can lie his head on my lap.
I ruminate on our options and I find myself grumbling, “Ugggh. Both of you like hero movies, which means you have me outnumbered… So…. if you want to watch something, I guess that is fine.” Sir Floof places his ribbons on me, and I sigh, releasing some of the pent-up anger and anxiety building inside of me, and pet Sir Floof as he purrs. Ayaka comes over and kneels down in front of me and places her hands on my knees, “Would you really be alright with that? I don’t want to accidentally make you remember something that will make you make that terrible face again.” As she says this, her eyes tear up and shimmer with the moisture building up. I find my own eyes watering as well, and I nod, “I will be ok. I have you and Sir Floof with me after all.” Sir Floof’s purrs got louder, and Ayaka sat up on her knees, warmly smiling that hero smile of hers, and pulled me down a bit to meet her lips.
Ayaka gets up and wipes the moisture from her eyes as she looks through Gang Orca’s movie collection. Gang Orca is drinking more water while glancing over the control panel for a moment to make sure everything is still on course. He was explaining earlier how underwater currents can affect the autopilot, so complacency isn’t advised. I understand that. I look around this swanky control room. The more I look at this control room, the more it feels like a shie hassaikai boss’s space (what became of the yakuza upon the inception of the quirk society, for those who haven’t watched/read the canon). It has a sophisticated, elegant feel with a dark color scheme of blacks and crimson. I can see why people think he looks like a villain. Like I have any room to talk, though. The news was just going off about how I am more like a villain than a hero myself.
I sigh at my spiraling thoughts, and Gang Orca spins around and takes another sip of his water while facing me, and he asks, “Do you not like my decor?” I shake my head, “N-no, actually quite the opposite, actually.” He asks, “Then why the sigh?” I sigh again, while trying to think about how to explain this and say, “... I guess it was because I resonated with it and when I thought about why it…” Gang Orca chuckles in that deep voice of his and says, “Everyone has different tastes. We are just cut from a similar cloth, and there is no shame in that… Is this about what they were saying a couple of weeks ago?” I sigh and nod, and he asks, “Have you not watched the news since then?” I shook my head and I said, “I w-was s-scared to.” Gang Orca smiles and says, “Then, before we watch a movie, how about I show you?”
He pulls out his phone and looks up the news story on Yotube. The news anchor says, “Welcome back, and now we have more news on the student who was recently kidnapped by the League of Villains. Here are some testimonies from the students present at the training camp.” The next screen is Hagakure and Aoyama, and she starts off by saying, “When we were caught in the gas attack, she used her abilities and passed out the gas masks that Yaomomo made and saved our lives.” Twinkle-toes says, “Elle est une héroïne.” According to the subtitles, my eye translates that to “She is a hero.” I am actually a little surprised he actually is speaking another language. Part of me was wondering if he was just being obnoxious, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Todoroki says (with a cut-out-of-frame Bakugo beside him), “We were fighting a villain that we couldn’t fight at 100 percent due to our quirks manipulating fire in a forested area and were struggling with just my ice. When we weren’t sure that we would make it out alive, she flew in and smashed the blade villain we were fighting and incapacitated him for us.”
There were several more testimonies from students who wanted to help improve my public image, and surprisingly, some from class 1-B as well, saying how I saved them as well. After the interviews, the anchor comes back on and says, “There is more to Sekai Mochizuki than meets the eye. I think we have another hero who looks like a villain joining the ranks soon. I don’t think she ranks above Gang Orca or Shishido, but I guess that we will see in time in future heroes-that-look-like-villain ratings.” The other anchor says, “Those scars were reportedly from a villain attack before the training camp when Sekai Mochizuki was abroad, and that means that she had two separate traumatic villain encounters within a short period of time. That sounds frightening.” The other anchor says while dabbing her eye with a tissue, “Send your thoughts and prayers to Sekai Mochizuki and her adoptive family.”
I sigh at that last bit. I don’t need your fucking pity. I pinch my nose bridge and close my eyes, and Ayaka says, “I found a movie. It stars Crimson Riot.” Gang Orca asks, “Do you want popcorn?” The moment he says that, I start salivating, and my stomach growls, and he chuckles, “I keep the popcorn by the microwave in the kitchenette.” I nod, remembering, and find a box with bags of popcorn right where he said it was. I make two and hand the spare to Ayaka, and Gang Orca asks in that calm demeanor of his, “What, none for me?” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. You are a big boy, Gang Orca.” He chuckles, “I was only saying that in jest. You can go ahead and start the movie while I make my popcorn.”
He is gone for several minutes and comes back with three bags of popcorn. For a guy his size, I guess that would be considered a snack. Though he has a long way to go before even beginning to compare him to Luffy. We are halfway through the movie, and Crimson Riot is being treated like a villain when the ship alarms start going off. Ayaka pauses the movie, and Gang Orca spins around and says, “It appears that we have a giant squid in our path. Let me slow down to 15 knots and flashing lights to attempt to deter it.” We slow down suddenly, and lights flash repeatedly and shine on a squid that is now illuminated on the screen. I shiver thinking of being wrapped in the giant squid in the waters outside of Pallet Town. Ayaka holds my hand, and she is also feeling anxious.
Gang Orca says, “Flashing lights did not deter the squid. Slowing down to a stop and engaging the squid.” Once the submarine stops, Gang Orca says, “I will be right back. This shouldn’t take too long.” He removes his suit and hangs it up neatly to show a form-fitted swimsuit and goes to the underwater exit chamber (not the top), which is a special chamber that can flush out water so he can go in and out as he pleases while underwater, as we watch on the cameras. He swims with incredible speed and rams into the giant squid with intimidating force, and the giant squid runs away. He comes back into the chamber and closes the door then gets some bottles that were strapped to the wall that collected water when the room filled up, and he closes each of them to seal the water inside. When he is done, he presses the red button on the wall, which makes the room drain.
When he exits, there are towels right outside that chamber that he uses to dry himself off with. Ayaka asks, “What are those bottles for?” He responds while still drying the excess water off, “I get dried out often and like to keep many bottles of deep-sea water on hand in case of emergencies. Every time I go out, I make it a point to gather some.” Ayaka nods, “Ok.” She slumps down and says, “I don’t think I could ever do something as cool as a slow octopus…” Gang Orca says while putting on a robe, “Every aquatic animal has its strengths. Like octopuses can blend in with their environment for stealth attacks that I could never do.” Ayaka gasps, “I totally forgot that! Wait, can I even do that?” She turns into an octopus, and I assume that she is trying.
While Ayaka is concentrating, Gang Orca is in his chair and is getting the submarine back into motion and returning it to autopilot. After several minutes, she flickers slightly as she changes her skin to match the sofa, and she giggles, “I can fade to the background in even more ways now, and I don’t need to feel flustered to do it.” She continues to giggle as she returns to her human form, and I hug her arm and say, “You are so amazing, Ayaka.” She leans her head on mine and says, “I think you are amazing, too.” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. Stop lying.” She places her hand on mine that is hugging her arm, and she says, “I am not lying. I meantevery word. Did you forget what our classmates said already?” I sigh, and she continues, “And let’s not forget that you and I were the first ones to practice quirk walking and Haki in this world.”
I groan and say, “But I am nowhere near as talented as you. You pick things up so quickly, and I feel like I am always looking at your back.” Ayaka says, squeezing my arm, “You dumb dumb, don’t you realize that you have always been walking by my side? Quite literally holding my hand a lot of the time.” I scoff, “I didn’t mean like that, I meant in terms of ability.” She scoffs back, “Yeah, I know, and I said what I said.” After we cuddle like this for a few minutes, Gang Orca asks, “When was the last time you texted or called your parents? We can resume the movie after.” Ayaka jolts and pulls out her phone in a panic and pauses a moment, “Wait, will I have enough signal?” Gang Orca says, “There are signal boosters, so that shouldn’t be a problem.” She nods and starts texting Mom.
