The Rogue Villager Chen Erbao

Chapter 429: Binhai University's Rules

  • Next Chapter

Binhai University boasted a century of history. Over those hundred years, it had produced many distinguished alumni, from famous entrepreneurs to brilliant scientists, all of whom contributed to the university’s rich heritage.

The snack street behind the campus was incredibly lively. Both sides of the road were lined with stalls selling all kinds of delicious food, attracting countless students.

Lin Rui clung to Chen Erbao’s arm, not wanting to let go for even a second.

“Brother Er Bao, I want to eat duck blood and vermicelli soup!”

Lin Rui was full after just a few bites of the soup, so Chen Erbao finished off the rest.

Afterward, Lin Rui took Chen Erbao to a dessert shop, and the two began to indulge in sweets.

Most of the passersby were young people, with quite a few couples among them. Though the weather was getting cooler, there were still plenty of girls in black stockings, white stockings, and leather skirts. The sight was dazzling, and Chen Erbao couldn’t help but sigh. ‘College life really is the best.’

Lin Rui noticed his wandering eyes and pouted.

“Brother Er Bao, enjoying the view?”

“Hm… Ahem, I was just lost in thought.”

“Tch…”

Lin Rui didn’t call him out on it. Instead, her eyes twinkled as she said slyly:

“How about I wear some for you tonight? I just bought a new pair of white ones…”

Chen Erbao’s eyes lit up. ‘It’s my lucky day!’

“Hmph, you big pervert!”

Lin Rui feigned annoyance.

Chen Erbao chuckled and took Lin Rui’s small hand.

“I only want to see you in them. I wouldn’t give anyone else a second glance.”

The words had barely left his mouth when two girls walked past them.

One had her hair in two ponytails and wore a light JK-style schoolgirl skirt, her fair calves wrapped in white stockings.

The other, tall and strikingly beautiful, wore a vibrant red dress and had a cold, unapproachable aura.

Chen Erbao instinctively looked over.

Lin Rui was instantly furious.

“And you said you wouldn’t look… You hypocrite!”

Chen Erbao gave a wry smile.

“I wasn’t looking at the girl in white stockings… I ran into the one in the red dress earlier when I was looking for you. We had a bit of a disagreement.”

Lin Rui looked her over for a moment before saying:

“I know her. I think she’s a junior and one of the campus belles, Dongfang Yuqing. Her family’s loaded, but she’s really cold and usually ignores all the guys.”

‘Dongfang Yuqing? It’s a nice name, but her personality is too cold.’

‘Xia Qingxue has a transcendent beauty. She might seem cold, but that’s just because people don’t know her. Once you do, she’s like a warm spring breeze.’

‘Bai Xiaoqing has the coldness of a domineering ‘ice queen’ type, the kind that makes a man want to conquer her.’

‘As for this Dongfang Yuqing, you can tell at a glance that she’s trouble.’

Chen Erbao had always made a point to keep his distance from women like her.

After a couple of glances, Chen Erbao turned his attention back to the dessert in front of him. He finished his own portion in a few quick bites, then stole a spoonful of Lin Rui’s cake.

“Sister Qingqing, so many guys are staring at you!”

Not far away, the girl in the JK skirt was linking arms with Dongfang Yuqing. She glanced at all the stares they were getting and couldn’t help but smile.

Dongfang Yuqing was already used to this. Every time she appeared on campus, she would inevitably attract the attention of the male students.

Some busybodies had even ranked her and a few younger students as Binhai University’s campus belles, much to her annoyance.

“Just ignore them. I…”

She trailed off, her gaze suddenly fixed on the dessert shop by the side of the road.

The girl in the JK skirt turned to look and couldn’t help asking:

“Sister Qingqing, do you want to get some dessert?”

“No, I just saw someone I know… Wait, it looks like he’s in trouble!”

…

Chen Erbao was busy eating his dessert when he suddenly realized the chatter in the shop had died down. He looked up to see seven or eight burly guys walking in.

They walked straight to Chen Erbao’s table. The one in the lead, a beefy guy in a tank top, spoke up:

“Well, if it isn’t our dear junior Lin Rui. All alone eating dessert? I was just thinking of getting some myself. Mind if I sit here?”

He pointed at Chen Erbao’s seat.

Chen Erbao rolled his eyes in resignation.

‘It’s like they don’t even see a living, breathing person sitting right here.’

Lin Rui’s brow furrowed, her displeasure evident.

“I’m eating with my friend. Please leave and don’t bother us.”

For a moment, the young lady had the air of a cold campus belle herself.

The leader chuckled.

“There’s plenty of room. We can just squeeze in.”

As he spoke, he grabbed a stool and sat down right next to Chen Erbao.

The strong stench of sweat that washed over him annoyed Chen Erbao.

He tilted his head to size the guy up, his expression turning impatient.

“What’re you lookin’ at?”

The young man folded his arms, showing off his bulging biceps and shoulders as he grinned menacingly at Chen Erbao.

Chen Erbao kicked the stool, sending it skidding sideways into the counter. The young man went flying along with it, nearly crashing to the floor.

“Motherfu—”

The seven or eight lackeys who had come with him froze for a second before reacting, glaring furiously at Chen Erbao, ready to pounce.

Chen Erbao calmly patted down his pant leg.

“Can’t even enjoy a dessert in peace.”

The leader scrambled to his feet, glaring at Chen Erbao.

“You’ve got some balls, kid. What department are you in?”

“I’m not from this school… And who gave you permission to sit next to me?”

“Heh, gutsy. Get outside. I’ll teach you the rules of Binhai University!”

The two of them were making a huge scene, and the other students in the shop quickly got up and moved away.

Lin Rui was a little nervous, but she still said resentfully:

“You’re clearly the one who started this.”

Without even glancing at Lin Rui, the leader sneered at Chen Erbao.

“What, are you scared to come out? You just going to hide behind a woman?”

Chen Erbao finished the last of his dessert in one gulp, slowly stood up, and pulled Lin Rui over to stand before the young man. He glanced at him once.

“Let’s go. We can talk outside.”

He didn’t want to make a move in here, either. Too many prying eyes, which would make things complicated.

The group filed out of the dessert shop and headed toward a more secluded path.

Students on the snack street saw the procession and shook their heads, steering clear of the group.

“Who managed to piss off Wang Wenzheng from the sports team this time?”

“That kid looks like he’s from another school. He doesn’t know who he’s messing with. He’s screwed now…”

“Holy crap, is that the sophomore goddess, Lin Rui, next to him?”

“It really is…”

…

Lin Rui pulled on Chen Erbao’s arm as they walked ahead of the group, whispering a reminder:

“Brother Er Bao, that guy’s name is Wang Wenzheng. He’s on the school’s sports team. His family’s rich, so he’s used to running wild around campus and doesn’t even give the teachers any respect. Go easy on him in a bit, okay?”

She wasn’t worried about Chen Erbao’s safety in the slightest. In fact, she was more concerned for the well-being of Wang Wenzheng and his gang of thugs.

If Chen Erbao went too far and the incident blew up, it would be a huge hassle to deal with.

Chen Erbao squeezed her hand reassuringly.

“Don’t worry, I know how to handle it.”
