The Rogue Villager Chen Erbao
Chapter 142: You're the Real Divine Doctor
This was the first time he had used a life-saving method from the Joyful Technique. If his current Cultivation hadn't been so stable, he might have failed at the very last moment.
Even so, Chen Erbao felt utterly exhausted.
This wasn't like a fight, where you could just go all out with brute force.
This was delicate work; there was no room for the slightest error. Too much force would damage Zhao Feng's brain, while too little would break the delicate balance.
In short, this was a great test for Chen Erbao as well.
Thick beads of sweat trickled down his brow, about to slide into his eyes, when a pair of soft, small hands suddenly reached out.
"Dr. Chen, may I wipe the sweat for you?"
Zhao Xiang'Er's voice was very soft, as if she were afraid of disturbing Chen Erbao.
Chen Erbao nodded, his gaze unwavering.
Zhao Xiang'Er's cheeks flushed slightly. She took out a tissue and carefully wiped the beads of sweat from Chen Erbao's forehead.
Time ticked by, and twenty minutes quickly passed.
Everyone's tense hearts gradually began to relax.
The color was visibly returning to Zhao Feng's face, and the fluctuating line on the monitor was slowly stabilizing.
Sensing it was time, Chen Erbao stopped his hands, swiftly plucked out all the Silver Needles, and let out a heavy breath. He sank wearily onto a stool, turned to Zhao Ruoying, and smiled.
"Mission accomplished. He's out of the woods for now."
With her eyes brimming with tears, Zhao Ruoying surged forward and threw her arms around Chen Erbao, her soft body pressing tightly against him.
"Thank you, Er Bao…"
Normally, holding such a soft, fragrant beauty in his arms would have thrilled Chen Erbao, but right now, he couldn't muster a shred of strength.
Although his Spiritual Power was still plentiful, he was mentally drained.
All he wanted to do was sleep.
"Let Mr. Zhao get some rest. Watch the door, and don't let anyone in. Remember—anyone."
Chen Erbao looked at Zhao Ruoying and instructed her gravely.
Zhao Ruoying shot a subtle glance at Song Rui and nodded.
"I understand."
She turned to Han Yi and said,
"Mom, let's go out for now. Dad needs to rest."
"Yes, yes. Let's do as Dr. Chen says…"
Han Yi was now a complete believer in Chen Erbao.
Song Rui and Zhao Qi were also reluctantly ushered out.
Finally, everyone—Chen Erbao and the two nurses included—left the room.
"Dr. Chen, I really don't know how to thank you…"
Once outside the room, Han Yi finally regained her composure and looked at Chen Erbao with gratitude.
Chen Erbao gave a wry smile.
"Aunt Han, could you please find me a place to rest first…?"
"Of course. Ruoying, take Mr. Chen to get some rest right away. He's been through a lot…"
Han Yi said to Zhao Ruoying, nodding repeatedly.
"No, it's fine. Have her stand guard here; I can go by myself. Remember, no one gets in!"
Chen Erbao was worried Song Rui might try something, and he would feel more at ease with Zhao Ruoying guarding the door.
"Mom, I'll take Dr. Chen,"
Zhao Xiang'Er volunteered, her face flushed.
After a moment's hesitation, Han Yi nodded.
"Alright, you can take Mr. Chen. Whatever he asks for, make sure you satisfy his request!"
"Yes, I understand."
Zhao Xiang'Er stepped forward to support Chen Erbao's arm. Head lowered shyly, she whispered,
"Please follow me, sir."
"Thank you."
Just as Chen Erbao was about to leave, a voice suddenly called out from the side.
"Divine Doctor! You are the true Divine Doctor!"
Everyone turned in astonishment, only to see Fang Yi drop to his knees before Chen Erbao with a THUD.
"Divine Doctor Fang, what are you…?"
Everyone was shocked.
Fang Yi looked at Chen Erbao, his expression fervent and excited.
"That needle technique just now… it was masterful! Simply incredible! Divine Doctor Chen, I beg you, take me as your disciple!"
"???"
Song Rui and Zhao Qi stared, utterly dumbfounded. The Divine Doctor they had brought was actually begging to become Chen Erbao's disciple.
Even Fang Yi's two doctoral students were stunned.
'We're about to have a grandmaster?'
"Divine Doctor Fang, you're the most renowned Divine Doctor in all of Capital City! How can you…?"
Zhao Qi couldn't stand it any longer.
'How could the doctor Zhao Ruoying brought back save the day, while the Divine Doctor her own husband invited was now kneeling on the floor?'
'Wasn't this the same as her kneeling before Zhao Ruoying?'
Fang Yi, however, had no time for her inner turmoil. His gaze was utterly sincere as he spoke.
"Divine Doctor Chen, your technique was as fluid as flowing water! After you placed them, the needles seemed to faintly form some kind of Array from the ancient texts. It's simply unbelievable… I'm begging you, you must accept me as your disciple! If you don't agree, I won't get up!"
"..."
Chen Erbao didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
'He could tell that Fang Yi wasn't a bad person. His earlier reprimand had simply been born from his sense of responsibility as a leading figure in medicine. The reputation of traditional Chinese medicine had been declining for years, and it was indeed due to quacks who lacked real skill but put on a confident front.'
'If it weren't for the Joyful Technique, his own half-baked medical skills truly wouldn't be fit to treat anyone.'
'Prescribing medicine for a fever or a cold was one thing, but for anything even slightly more serious, he'd be totally out of his depth.'
'So, what Fang Yi had said at the beginning made a lot of sense. Without decades of deep immersion in the field of Chinese medicine, it was impossible to achieve any real mastery.'
'Unfortunately for that logic, he was a walking cheat code.'
'All in all, Fang Yi was an old-fashioned, stubborn old man, but he was a decent person at heart.'
"Divine Doctor Fang, please get up. No matter what, you are my senior…"
Chen Erbao felt too awkward letting an elderly man continue to kneel before him.
Fang Yi lowered his head in shame.
"Please, don't call me Divine Doctor. I am not worthy of the title!"
"..."
Chen Erbao was so tired he could barely keep his eyes open. All he wanted was to lie down and sleep.
"How about this, Mr. Fang. You get up first. I'm going to get some rest, and when I wake up, we can discuss medical techniques."
"That's right, Divine Doctor Fang. Mr. Chen needs to rest. Let's talk about it after he's woken up!"
Zhao Xiang'Er chimed in.
Hearing this, Fang Yi hesitated for a moment before slowly getting to his feet.
"Divine Doctor Chen, you can't run off, now. I'll be waiting right here for you."
He was genuinely afraid Chen Erbao would bolt.
'As a titan in the world of traditional Chinese medicine, he had always considered himself to be at the pinnacle of his field. But whenever he saw ancient medical texts that had been unearthed, he felt his own skills were as insignificant as a mayfly's.'
'There were so many passages he couldn't comprehend.'
'Watching traditional Chinese medicine decline day by day filled him with anxiety, leaving him both indignant and powerless.'
'But no matter how hard he studied, his medical skills wouldn't advance a single inch, as if he had hit a wall with no path forward.'
'But today, Chen Erbao had taught him a lesson, opening the door to a whole new world. In Chen Erbao, he saw the future of traditional Chinese medicine!'
Chen Erbao forced a smile.
"Why would I run? Mr. Zhao's treatment isn't finished yet. I'll be back after I get some rest."
'This old man was really something else. He'd nearly killed the patient himself; it was one thing for him not to run, but to worry that I would run away instead!'
When Han Yi heard Chen Erbao say the treatment wasn't finished, she grew worried again.
"Dr. Chen, my husband isn't fully cured yet?"
