Chapter 779 - 779: The fourth day of the development trial (part 12)
Though unable to see or even feel anything about her surroundings now that she was in this cave which actually was free of water, the little wyrm softly snorted, she of course knew that the anaconda was here observing her from the shadows.
‘What’s going on, the first time I came here I nearly went crazy after being deprived of my senses’, thought the anaconda.
Imagine her surprise when she saw Espi slide while using her tail to feel the way ahead of her until she reached one of the walls of the cave.
“Boooom!”, then without prior notice the little wyrm casually lashed her tail against the wall making pieces of debris fly in every direction while the cave slightly shook.
‘What is she… don’t tell me!’, just as the anaconda was thinking, Espi once again lashed her tail at the wall making it tremble more than before.
The little wyrm’s plan was simple, if the anaconda didn’t make a move, then she was going to force her to move, how you ask, she simply had to threaten the anaconda with collapsing the cave.
Espi move underground unlike the anaconda, so even if she were to be trapped under debris the little wyrm is sure that she can dig her way out of it, the anaconda on the other hand would be limited by her massive body, also this place is in what she was thrusting to rise again so she absolutely couldn’t let the enemy destroy it.
“Hisss!”, that was the anaconda screaming something along the lines of “Stop it already you crazy fool!”, as she charged towards the little wyrm who of course couldn’t see nor hear her, but even so when the anaconda was just a couple dozens of centimeters away from reaching Espi, she suddenly turned to see the anaconda’s way.
“Crack!”, that was Espi’s tail which made a small hole on the ground right where the anaconda was a second ago.
‘No way, how did she know where I was coming from!’, exclaimed the anaconda to her insides, only to be further surprised when she heard the little wyrm speaking to her.
“Hisss”, Espi’s words made the anaconda feel a chill running down her spine, “Your wound disappeared right?”, said the little wyrm.
Which was actually true, the fist sized dent that Espi had left on the anaconda’s back was gone, it was as if the wound had vanished, which shouldn’t be possible, even with her high vitality and the faster recovery bonus obtained by the little wyrm, if she suffered a wound like that which included broken bones and kept moving continuously not to mention underwater where wounds heal slower, Espi was sure she wouldn’t be able to heal like that in just a couple of hours.
‘Mmm, though my tail didn’t pierce her scales, I was sure that I broke her bones and crushed her muscles, if I received a wound like that maybe if I stayed still and had some of the medicine made by the pink haired sister who always gives Kana and me candies, I would recover in two hours, but constantly moving would extend the healing time’, thought the little wyrm.
Espi is not arrogant, Aster himself had told her that as of current she should have the best healing capacity in this place, so long as we are limiting the options to mortal level, even Aster whose body is still naturally packed with yang energy can’t heal like the little wyrm, instead he outclasses everyone else when it comes to stamina and the like.
So that left Espi with a pretty obvious option, the anaconda had done something against the “rules” of this place.
“H-Hissss!”, just as the anaconda was screaming “How do you know that, can you actually see me!”, the little wyrm casually added.
“Your movements when you approached me earlier gave you away, you see I didn’t attack you randomly, that wound was made such that you’ll limp when pouncing at me, so since you didn’t show any discomfort by the time you reached the area where I can detect you, it must mean that the wound is gone”.
The anaconda was left speechless, no other living being besides her has been in this cave at least since she discovered it, so she doesn’t know if the sensorial depriving effect normally disappears when one approaches another living being too much, or if the little wyrm’s instincts are monstrous enough to bypass the darkness of the cave.
But what she does know is that she was played like a fiddle by Espi, which is understandable, to begin with the little wyrm is quite a smart girl, and she was time after time amazed by how Aster always controls the battlefield, so she wanted to try it as well.
‘I failed when I used only “strength” but I remember Aster saying that “preparations” are the key to victory’, thought the little wyrm as a sharp light flashed through her eyes.
“Hisssss!”, the anaconda refused to believe what the little wyrm said, she immediately pounced towards Espi whose tail once again lashed in the exact direction from which the anaconda was coming.
“Crack!”, the anaconda dodged the first attack which landed on the ground blasting a hole on it, and managed to reach the little wyrm to then directly wrap her body around Espi.
“Hissss!”, with a loud hissing sound the anaconda opened her mouth to bite the little wyrm only to feel as if there was something wrong, because Espi was smirking at her.
“Boooom!”, the anaconda felt as if her body was hit by a giant boulder as the little wyrm tensed her muscles forcefully breaking the lock of the anaconda to then hit her with her tail.
The anaconda flew into the distance to then heavily crash against a wall, though Espi couldn’t see her since she left her immediate vicinity, the little wyrm didn’t forget to further humiliate her by saying.
“Those strange scales might save your life but in terms of strength, you are no match for me”.
The anaconda who took a moment to react, saw red the moment she realized that Espi’s attack had landed exactly in the same place as before, also the dent was more than twice in size.
Interestingly enough, the anaconda which should have been retorting due to pain didn’t show the reaction one would expect, but that wasn’t the most surprising thing as of current, just like Espi had said, the wound area recovered at a speed that was noticeable with the naked eye and soon the anaconda was as good as new.
“Boooom!”, unfortunately, the anaconda didn’t have the leisure to admire the marvelous healing capacity of her body as of current, because the little wyrm started attacking the wall again, which made the anaconda grith her teeth.
Espi had inversed the roles and now it was the anaconda the one who had to approach her, because if the little wyrm was left alone she was going to demolish this place.
“Hisss”, Espi who was hitting the wall with her tail casually said “Stop wasting my time, use that thing which was illuminating this cave before already, otherwise I’ll just collapse everything”.
Every minute the little wyrm spent fighting the anaconda was a minute she couldn’t be with Kana or Aster after all.
Feeling the cave tremble with each lash of Espi’s tail and realizing that the sense-depriving darkness was useless against the little wyrm, the anaconda’s eyes got bloodshot as she said “Screw it”.
The little wyrm saw with total calmness how the darkness that covered the cave was driven away by a familiar green glow whose origin was a human skeleton which was sitting in lotus position, the bones however were completely black colored but more importantly, the glow came from very small green crystal spots that could be found on the chest area of the skeleton, which by the way had a missing part.
“Hisss”, with a disdainful voice the little wyrm said something along the lines of “So, that’s where your strange scales and healing power came from”.
The missing bones had a biting pattern which Espi recognized, as in the mouth of the anaconda perfectly fit there, on a smaller size though probably because she had found and ate those bones when she was younger.
“Hissss!”, with an angered sound, the anaconda surrounded the black bone skeleton with her body and then crushed it turning them into black dust out of which a few small dark green crystals could be seen, not for too long before the anaconda swallowed them though.
“Crack!”, the ground below the anaconda cracked as her weight increased, accompanied by the anaconda’s body growing a pair of meters, so that her already massive body reached the ten-meter mark, what’s more her ribs became luminescent, so her skeleton became partially noticeable from the outside, it was thanks to that light that the darkness of the cave couldn’t engulf everything like before.
‘What is this, I can’t feel spirit energy coming from her, she is not a spirit beast either but she is also not like sister Guardian though her aura is similar to her… she is still not as strong as her’, thought the little wyrm to then disappear from plain sight.
“Boooom!”, the anaconda which was a couple of dozens of meters away a second ago, landed where Espi was standing breaking a portion of the ground due to her increased weight and the impact of her charge.
“Hisssss!”, the anaconda loudly hissed and an invisible pressure extended through the cave, it didn’t render the little wyrm immobile but it allowed the anaconda to actually locate Espi while she was camouflaged.
“Clang!”, the anaconda pounced towards the little wyrm who answered by lashing her tail towards the enemy, imagine her surprise when the anaconda twisted her body so that the hit wouldn’t properly land, resulting in Espi’s tail scratching the side of her body, which produced a screeching metallic sound accompanied by the anaconda’s scales being peeled by force only for a new layer to grown before she landed on the ground a second later.
“Hissss!”, the anaconda’s eyes got bloodshot, even now the enemy’s scales were tougher than hers, on the other hand she now looked at the little wyrm with greed in her eyes as if she couldn’t wait to kill her to then eat her, something Espi is rather familiar with.
As a dragon, every part of her body is a treasure, that’s why all the other wyrms were hunted and while the anaconda didn’t know of Espi’s real race, she was convinced that consuming the little wyrm would be beneficial for her, now.
“I’ll eat you to make up for all the loses I suffered!”, said the anaconda as she charged towards Espi with her jaws wide open, only to be dodged by Espi, which resulted in the anaconda biting on a rock to then crush it with her mouth.
“Boooom!”, continuous explosions echoed through the cave as the anaconda went crazy destroying everything in sight, while tanking Espi’s tail lashes head on, however the rampage of the anaconda suddenly stopped midway.
“Hissss!!!”, the anaconda’s body lost a couple of centimeters of thickness, which didn’t seem as much but it proved something important, there was a limit to how much she could maintain this power.
That being said, the moment Espi charged at her, the anaconda tensed her body and then her scales started producing a viscous black liquid which at contact with the ground caused sizzling sounds.
“Hsssss!”, the little wyrm didn’t stop her charge though, her tail lashed against the anaconda’s body forcing her backwards while some of her scales were peeled away, however Espi couldn’t help but frown as she felt a burning sensation on the tip of her tail.
Her pretty white scales were intact but there were some black stains which Espi cleaned by shaking her tail a bit, only then did the burning sensation disappear.
“Come here, become nutrients for me!”, shouted the anaconda as she charged towards Espi who welcomed her with a lash from her tail, the anaconda stopped caring about the damage she was receiving though, she became obsessed with eating the little wyrm so after a dozen of clashes she was covered in wounds caused by Espi’s tail, the little wyrm on the other hand had her pretty white scales stained with the solution produced by the anaconda’s body.
‘I’m not poisoned but the liquid she is releasing is acid enough to cause me pain’, thought the little wyrm as she frowned, a sensation of unease invaded her, but she couldn’t pinpoint where it came from, she was sure it wasn’t the anaconda because at most she had equaled her, so while apologizing to Aster, Espi took the decision to end the fight as fast as she could.
“Hissss!”, the anaconda advanced towards Espi leaving behind a trace of melted rock due to the acid solution that her body was producing, but when she pounced towards the little wyrm, Espi changed from using her tail to tackle the anaconda with her whole body.
“Booooom!”, the anaconda flew into the distance while vomiting blood, her bones had cracked due to the impact and though she was recovering, she saw a white figure appear before her.
“Crack!”, a loud shattering sound echoed through the cave as Espi’s tail landed on the anaconda’s neck blasting away everything above it, the little wyrm had essentially beheaded the anaconda with her tail.
It didn’t come without a price though, she had a wound on her tail, but it wasn’t caused by the anaconda, but because she had exerted more strength than what her body could handle.
‘The sensation of unease is not gone’, thought Espi as she rushed towards the severed head of the anaconda to then pummel it into broken flesh and bones with her tail.
“Boooom!”, however once she had finished making sure that the anaconda was dead, the little wyrm now realized what was the origin of the sensation of unease that was weighing in her mind, at the same time the ground around the body of the anaconda dyed of a deep black color, but before anything happened, Espi ignored the acidic solution that still covered the anaconda’s corpse which had cauterized the open wound on the neck preventing the anaconda’s innards and blood from spilling on the ground, and grabbed the anaconda’s corpse with her tail to then jump into the water.
‘I knew it, when the darkness disappeared, I felt as if someone was gazing at me’, thought the little wyrm as she swam at high speed through the water tunnel, she could see from the corner of her eyes that everything behind of her was becoming pitch black, similar to how it was at the cave.
That being said, there was a limit to the darkness’s extension, because from afar a bit of light could be seen, also the darkness was following after Espi who had more than quadrupled the speed at which she swam when chasing after the anaconda in order to get away.
One must know that this was the little wyrm’s maximum speed underwater, moving this fast actually tired her out, so this was a serious situation, that being said Espi who saw how a spot of darkness was chasing after her didn’t feel scared she simply rushed towards a specific tunnel which she knew would lead her to her destination.
After thirty minutes of swimming at high speed while dragging the corpse of the anaconda, Espi finally saw a glimmer of light appear above her, she was in a tunnel which had many different holes on its walls.
“Splash!”, the little wyrm which didn’t deaccelerate jumped out of the water splashing everything in her vicinity, landing on the ground to then see how a black spot emerged from the water to then advance towards her.
“Booooom!”, however the thing stopped when a straight line of destruction was produced on the ground between the little wyrm and it.
“Don’t move, the next one will absolutely land on you”, said a black-haired youth who was holding a machete which cracked and crumbled apart the next second, only for him to be handed another one by a girl with white hair, to then walk until he was standing in front of Espi.
Naturally that was Aster and the one who handed him the machete was of course Vivian, besides them, Eris and Guardian were here, as for the others they were still around ten minutes from this place, which used to be the residence of the anaconda.
What happened is that Espi had retrieved paper and a pen while the anaconda was eating those crystals to inform Aster of the situation, and told him to arrive to the point at which she was going to come out as fast as possible, she sent the note to the storage of the group which required Aster or the designated leader’s approval to be used, so Aster was notified of it and retrieved the message, thus deciding to separate from the group to get here faster.
Aster and Eris rode on the black horse which was sent back with the others, while Vivian was transported with the help of the lynx, still Aster didn’t expect that the opponent was going to be one of the “supervisors” of the trials.
“Crack!”, the black spot trembled and then started expanding, it looked like the shadow projected from an arm which tried to move towards the anaconda and more importantly the little wyrm.
However instead of slashing the machete towards the shadow arm to use the special technique he obtained thanks to the sword swinging mission, Aster smirked.
“Booom!”, a meteor made out of blue flames descended from the sky landing on the ground where the shadow arm was a second ago, leaving behind a twenty meter of diameter… fingerprint.
Not even a second later, the blue flaming board made its elegant entrance, appearing in front of Aster who casually said.
“I have a lot of questions but you are not going to answer them anyway, right?”.
“…”, taking the silence of the blue flaming board as confirmation, Aster shrugged to then add.
“Fine, but I’m pretty sure this wasn’t supposed to happen, so there must be a proper compensation, the fight of my “companion” was interrupted after all”, said Aster as he pointed at Espi who after escaping from the black shadow was actually tired.
The corpse of the anaconda lit up in fierce blue flames burning until only the bones were left, while the little wyrm shone in a dazzling blue light.
“Hisss~”, the comfortable sensation made the already tired little wyrm feel sleepy, so she slid towards Aster and climbed until she was resting her upper body on his shoulder before closing her eyes.
Then without saying anything, the blue flaming board disappeared, leaving behind a lynx who was in awe, not at the blue flaming board’s actions but at Aster’s.
‘He not only negotiated but also stood up against one of the beings in the sky’, thought the lynx.
Though Aster trusted that him threatening with breaking the rules by nearly drawing out his Annihilation, was enough to call the blue flaming board here, if the black shadow tried to attack Espi he was going to kill it, and while Guardian didn’t know the specifics, she didn’t see an ounce of hesitation when he stood up in front of the little wyrm and that was the last proof the lynx needed.
