Chapter 49: Chapter 49: The Living God of Fortune

The bartender had been keeping a close eye on their table. Seeing Rian Sinclair wave, he immediately rushed over. "Miss, how may I help you?"

Rian pointed at the empty bottles on the table. "Bring me fifty bottles of this first. Oh, and fill up all these empty glasses while you’re at it."

The bartender looked stunned.

"Fifty bottles?" he thought in shock. "At ninety-eight thousand each, that’s four point nine million in total!"

He hesitated to bring out the drinks right away, highly doubting that this beautiful young woman could afford such a massive bill.

Rian pulled out her black card and placed it on the table. "Don’t worry. I have the money."

Seeing the card, the bartender immediately went to fetch the bottles. He poured the drinks, filling every empty glass to the brim, and then stood quietly to the side. Whenever too many glasses were emptied, he promptly refilled them.

Round after round, the drinks on the table rapidly disappeared.

Cameron’s head was already spinning. He could barely stomach another drop, but beside him, Brandon Rhodes was downing glass after glass.

When Cameron reached for another, Brandon stopped him. "I’ll drink it."

Rian watched the scene with a smile.

"Oho," she thought amusedly. "Spoiling his little ’wife,’ I see."

Cameron shook his head. This challenge was originally directed at him, and it was already generous enough that she allowed Brandon to help. It wouldn’t be right if he just sat back and did nothing.

"No rush, you can take your time," Rian said. "But it looks like Cameron can’t take any more." Judging by Cameron’s current state, she figured he would throw up if he had even one more sip.

Brandon pressed his lips into a thin line. Gripping Cameron’s wrist with one hand, he glanced at the remaining alcohol on the table. "We’re done drinking."

Rian didn’t force them to continue; she would be held responsible if something happened from overdrinking.

"Sure," she agreed. "How many glasses did you have?" She hadn’t kept track toward the end, but someone in the crowd definitely had.

Just as expected.

"Four hundred and thirty-six glasses!" someone immediately shouted.

"One bottle for every glass!" another person jeered.

The crowd erupted into noisy chatter. All eyes were on Rian, waiting to see if she would actually put her money where her mouth was.

Rian didn’t back down. She called the bartender over. "Bring the POS machine. I’ll swipe my card now."

The bartender quickly returned, accompanied by a middle-aged man who spoke with utmost respect. "Good evening, Miss. I am the manager here. Your total bill for tonight is fifty-two million, six hundred and sixteen thousand, eight hundred."

Hearing the notification that forty attribute points had been credited to her account put Rian in a rather good mood.

She also had a clear idea of the expenses. Instead of swiping her card right away, she pointed at the bottles on the table. "Add the rest of these to the bill too."

The manager had initially thought she was wincing at the price and was slightly nervous that she might try to haggle. He never expected her to include the remaining ten bottles as well.

He immediately adjusted the total. "Of course, Miss. I’ll waive the odd numbers for you and make it an even fifty-three million, five hundred and ninety thousand."

Rian handed over her black card and pointed at Cameron. "Credit all these drinks to Cameron’s sales quota. They’re gifts for him. Ask him how he wants to handle them."

The manager’s eyes lit up with joy. When the transaction went through successfully, his gaze toward Rian grew incredibly affectionate.

"Who could understand this feeling?" he thought excitedly. "She’s a living God of Fortune!"

Cameron’s eyes were also brimming with delight. He hadn’t expected all of this alcohol to be credited to him! It was a completely unexpected windfall.

His body swayed slightly, but he tried his hardest to steady himself as he bowed. "Thank you!"

Rian waved it off. With five hundred million in cashback, there was truly no need to thank her. She gestured toward Brandon. Although he had a darker complexion, even he couldn’t hide the faint flush on his cheeks after drinking so much. His eyes were glazed for a brief moment, but they quickly regained their usual clarity.

"If you want to thank someone, thank the guy next to you. He drank quite a lot for you," she said. After all, she was the one spending the money, but she was mainly here to enjoy a good show.

Cameron pursed his lips and looked at Brandon. He knew exactly how much he himself had consumed; the vast majority of his newly acquired quota was thanks to Brandon. "Thank you," he murmured softly.

Brandon merely glanced at Cameron without a word, then shifted his gaze to Rian.

He wondered what her true intentions were. Not only did she throw money around, but she also made the boy thank him. What exactly was she trying to do?

Rian met Brandon’s eyes and curled her lips into a smile. Raising her glass, she tilted her head back and downed the drink. Brandon remained silent, lifting his own glass to down his final drink of the night.

Rian didn’t linger in the bar for much longer. She had had her fun, the show was over, and Cameron had provided her with forty attribute points. It was a great haul, but it was time to go home and sleep.

Meanwhile, Cameron Hughes took a glass of milk from his coworker and took small sips. The coworker pointed at the man leaning against the wall and whispered, "Cameron, what’s your relationship with that guy anyway?"

Cameron shook his head without speaking. The coworker didn’t pry further. Instead, he pointed toward the manager’s office. "Go get your money! That rich lady spent so much today; your commission alone should be around fifty thousand. Not bad, Cameron! You won’t have to work so hard for a while. But...

"These extra bottles probably won’t be cashed out for you. Since you’re taking the commission on the sale, the physical bottles will just be held in storage under your name. Unless, of course, you quit this place and manage to cling to that rich lady’s coattails." The coworker glanced at the liquor cabinet as he spoke.

Cameron shook his head. He knew the alcohol could only be kept under his name; after all, there was no such thing as cashing out pre-purchased alcohol in this line of work.

"Thanks. I’ll head to the manager’s office first, you go ahead and get back to work," Cameron said with a smile. His coworker gave a quick wave and went back to his duties.

When Cameron walked past Brandon, he was hit by the strong scent of alcohol and tobacco clinging to the man. He stopped in front of him, looking up at the man who was a full head taller than him, and quietly said, "Thank you."

Brandon had been leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette. Seeing Cameron approach, he pinched out the cigarette butt with his fingertips. Hearing that soft note of gratitude, he reached out and ruffled the boy’s hair.

Cameron’s body stiffened. He spun around and walked away, his retreating figure looking rather like he was fleeing in a panic. Brandon chuckled under his breath.

Only upon entering the manager’s office did Cameron manage to steady himself. He couldn’t help but feel a flash of irritation.

"Why did he have to touch my head?!" he thought indignantly.

The manager’s face lit up with the joy of seeing a literal cash cow walk into the room. "Cameron, my boy! You did a fantastic job today! Here’s your earnings for tonight. I know about your family situation, so I rounded it up for you. Fifty-five thousand."

Cameron smiled as he took the cash, staring down at the thick wad of bills in his hands.

"I finally have the money for my mother’s follow-up treatments!" he thought.

Leaving the office, Cameron carefully tucked the money into his backpack. Having received the manager’s permission, he was allowed to clock out early tonight.

"Are you happy?" a deep male voice suddenly asked. Cameron looked up, his eyes meeting Brandon’s. He instantly wiped the joy off his face.

"Cameron Hughes, why aren’t you smiling? You look good when you smile," Brandon said, bending down to meet him at eye level.

Cameron pushed him away, his brow furrowing. "Why are you standing so close?"

Brandon let himself be pushed back against the wall. He noticed the boy had changed into his regular clothes, looking much cuter than he did in his work uniform. "Off work?"

Cameron nodded, a faint trace of happiness leaking back onto his face. After all, getting home early meant his sister wouldn’t have to worry.

"I’ll walk you home." Brandon reached out to take his backpack, but seeing how protectively Cameron clung to it, he dropped his hand.

To Cameron, that bag held his mother’s hard-earned medical funds; he wouldn’t trust anyone else with it.

"No need. You should go home," Cameron replied. "I can get back on my own."
