Chapter 100: Not Only Good-Looking and Extremely Rich, but Also a Little Cocky
Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Not Only Good-Looking and Extremely Rich, but Also a Little Cocky
As the call ended, Scott Sutton looked at his phone screen and smirked, gently rubbing it with his fingertip. He mused that Rian was quite hard to ask out.
The man standing beside him spoke up. "Boss, aren’t we in Meridia? If you like her..."
Before the man could finish, Scott raised a hand to cut him off. His expression turned icy as he shot him a sideways glance. "You want to snatch her?"
The man lowered his head, falling silent.
Scott wasn’t angry. He leaned back lazily on the sofa, picked up his full glass of red wine, and gave it a gentle swirl. "Do you have any idea that the people around her could shove your head into a toilet bowl and scrub it, right before they shoot your ass to pieces?"
His voice was steady, and his face lacked any discernible emotion, yet his words sent a palpable chill through the air. The man kept his head down, staying mute, and Scott paid him no further mind. Ultimately, Scott withdrew from the bidding. It was a high-stakes gamble he simply couldn’t afford to take.
With the auctioneer’s three final hammer strikes, the last item was won by Rian Sinclair in VIP Room 2. This marked the end of the auction.
The auctioneer graciously delivered the prepared closing remarks. "This concludes our auction. Thank you to all the families for your support. All nine items have been claimed by their destined owners. Until next time, everyone."
Rian remained seated, as the final item she had won hadn’t been delivered to her room yet. She took small, unhurried sips of her hot tea. Before long, there was a knock at the door—KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK. Venus stepped forward to open it, revealing Scott walking in, dressed in a sharp black suit. Rian glanced up at his attire before calmly returning to her tea.
Although Scott wore a polite smile, his eyes were cool and detached. He looked as if he had come looking for a fight.
Propping her chin on her hand, Rian looked at him. "You here for a fight?"
Scott froze for a moment before laughing and shaking his head. He made himself at home, taking a seat and accepting a cup of hot tea handed to him by a nearby attendant. Meanwhile, the auctioned item was placed near the table. Rian handed over her bank card to finalize the payment, and the staff left after swiping it.
Scott glanced at his men and made a gesture, dismissing his entire entourage. Seeing this, Rian also ordered Quentin and the others to wait outside.
"Not here to fight. Just want to chat?" Rian asked, watching Scott act as if he owned the place. Well, to be fair, he actually did.
Scott set his teacup on the table, a smile playing in his eyes. "You’re truly wealthy, Rian."
Rian cast a sidelong glance at him and set her own cup down. "Not as wealthy as a shady businessman like you."
Scott paused for a moment. He slowly picked up his tea and took a sip, making no immediate reply. Rian stayed silent as well, until the man’s magnetic voice broke the quiet again.
"I can’t help it. I’m a bit broke, so I have to think of ways to make a buck. I’m not robbing anyone—it’s completely legal and reasonable," he said. His demeanor clearly stated that even if he did squeeze her for cash, she still had to obediently hand it over.
"Oh? An arms dealer is short on cash?" Rian feigned a look of pure astonishment, as if she had just heard something unbelievable.
Scott’s temple twitched. Her words completely painted him as the villain. He studied her expression. Aside from that theatrical display of shock, there were no genuine emotional ripples. Even he was a little bewildered by her at this moment.
When it came to that ocean sector, Scott had indeed been gambling. However, his limit for the bet was under forty billion US Dollars. After factoring in the time required for extraction, the immediate profit would only amount to roughly twenty billion. When he called out thirty billion and threw in his privilege card, he was mainly trying to force a high-stakes gamble to see if his opponent would bite.
If he lost, he would just have to sell a few more weapons and play the shady businessman a bit longer. If he won, he would make a massive killing. Still, his internal cap for that sector was strictly under forty billion US Dollars. Money was truly hard to make in this day and age. Although he wasn’t exactly strapped for cash, it wasn’t like he was a printing press. Not everyone was like Rian.
Resting his chin on his hand, Scott looked at Rian sitting at the head of the table. His perception of her was refreshed once again. Not only was she beautiful, but she was also incredibly rich. The kicker was that she had an arrogant swagger to top it off. Dealing in arms meant he interacted with countless people; usually, he could read a person’s thoughts and emotions with about seventy or eighty percent accuracy. But Rian was shrouded in layers of fog—peel back one layer, and there was only more fog. It was impossible to guess what she was thinking.
Rian waited a long time without hearing him speak. When she looked up, she saw Scott frowning in deep thought. Checking the time on her right wrist, she asked with a hint of impatience, "Do you have a lot of free time?"
Scott snapped out of his daze and looked at her, realizing they had already run into each other twice this afternoon. He immediately feigned distress. "I’m just lacking orders right now. How about you place a few big ones, Rian?"
He only meant it as a joke, but to his surprise, Rian actually seemed to consider it seriously. A moment later, he heard her say, "I don’t need anything right now, but there will be massive orders down the line. Make sure you have the appetite for them."
Rian had naturally caught onto his joking tone, but his words instantly reminded her of North Boro.
"I’ll give you a discount when the time comes, then," Scott replied.
Hearing this, Rian’s interest was piqued. A discount was a temptation no Veridian could ever refuse.
"How much of a discount?"
Scott flashed a hand gesture. Rian felt a twinge of disdain inwardly, though her face remained impassive. Ten percent off. Still, every little bit counted. She expressed her thanks and turned to leave.
"Rian, could we exchange contact info?"
Hearing Scott’s voice behind her, she didn’t answer immediately. She simply turned back to look at him.
The man’s voice continued, "The goods you ordered are arriving soon, too."
Rian brushed it off with a casual laugh. "You can just contact Quentin."
Scott didn’t push the issue. Just as Rian was about to walk out, he added, "Rian, how about half-price?"
Rian whipped her head around and casually sat back down in a nearby chair. Seeing that Scott’s tea was running low, she even obligingly refilled it for him. Sure, she was wealthy. But the temptation of a fifty percent discount was simply impossible to resist.
"Then thank you, Mr. Sutton." Rian didn’t bother with false modesty. It wasn’t as if she had demanded it; he was voluntarily handing over the discount. Being polite and refusing would be doing a disservice to her money. Getting a shady businessman to slash his prices was no easy feat, after all.
"I wonder if I could be friends with you, Rian?"
Rian certainly wouldn’t say no to The Fortune Boy. She promptly exchanged contact information with him. She really couldn’t understand Scott. He already had her number, yet here he was, basically handing her free money. She wondered what kind of mindset this was. Did he have too much money and nowhere to spend it?
With the matter settled, there was naturally no reason for Rian to stick around, so she pulled the door open and stepped out. As the door was swinging shut, she caught Scott’s muttered words: "That contact info sure was expensive. Looks like I’ll have to launch the next event a bit early."
She clicked her tongue, realizing the shady businessman was going to scam people out of their money again. Remembering today’s con within a con, Rian slammed the door shut behind her. After all, she was one of the people he had scammed out of their cash today.
Seeing her emerge, Quentin immediately stepped forward to check on her. Rian waved her hand dismissively, and the group proceeded to leave The Undercity together.
Once they were seated in the car, all the auctioned items were carelessly tossed aside, even the ocean sector documentation that had cost fifty billion. The only exception was the leather-bound notebook from the very beginning, which she kept carefully tucked away.
