Chapter 1099 - The Swarm Queen’s Offspring

  • Next Chapter

At the center of the nest was a Swarm Queen. She was both the core of the nest and the mother of every insect within it. Despite her strength surpassing the Macrocosm rank, the Swarm Queen couldn’t fight at all. Every one of her abilities was devoted to reproduction.

Four of the insects she’d birthed had reached the Macrocosm rank. Han Wu and the Jade Dragon Emperor had already killed one of them, the Colossal Centipede. The remaining three had been plotting revenge ever since, but the Swarm Queen had initially suppressed that impulse.

Through her connection to the nest, the Swarm Queen had sensed Han Wu leading his massive corpse legion toward her. If she didn’t act, her location would soon be exposed, which would leave the nest vulnerable.

It was at this point that she finally ordered her powerful offspring to kill Han Wu before he found her. The three Macrocosm insects had been itching for a fight. They sought vengeance for the Colossal Centipede.

Revenge wasn’t the highest priority, however. Protecting the Swarm Queen came first. The Swarm Queen was carrying a new fetus in her belly. Its favorite source of nutrition was energy converted from Great Dragon flesh and blood. This indicated that the new offspring would have greater potential and strength than the three siblings before it.[1]

Sensing this, the Swarm Queen poured every drop of her available nutrients and lifeblood into the fetus, intending to birth an Insect God capable of leading the entire insect species to greatness.

Unfortunately, the developing Insect God wasn’t ready to be born yet. Of the three Macrocosm offspring, only the Phantom Butterfly had a human body and butterfly wings, so it volunteered to stay behind and protect the Swarm Queen.[2]

It had sensed Han Wu’s aura and knew that he was a Mesocosm fighter at most. The Battle Dragon Emperor beside him was a Macrocosm fighter but was heavily suppressed and could only exhibit the power of a Mesocosm life form.

At most, the enemy had four Mesocosm fighters. That didn’t warrant the Phantom Butterfly’s involvement.

The other two Macrocosm offspring agreed. Either one of them alone could crush Han Wu’s group. Having the second one tag along was nothing more than insurance.

The Swarm Queen approved of this plan and sent the pair out with instructions to hurry back, preferably with the enemy’s flesh and blood to nourish the fetus. The two powerful offspring obediently raced toward Han Wu.

Meanwhile, Han Wu was still methodically killing insects that wandered into the Slaughter Barrier. The weaker insects were converted into corpse soldiers, while the stronger ones were revived as undead through the Netherworld Jurisdiction.

Undead lacked the corpse soldiers’ regeneration and immortality, but retained portions of their living memories and skills. This meant they could typically unleash combat power greater than that of corpse soldiers at the same level.

Han Wu pressed forward with his growing corpse army and undead legion, feeling like he was on the verge of conquering the entire nest.

Then two figures blocked his path. They were the Swarm Queen’s two powerful offspring: the Reaper Mantis and the Demon Roach.

The Reaper Mantis was only about ten meters long, with two scythes at its front that radiated an intense, bone-chilling aura, as if stained with the souls of tens of thousands of powerful beings.[3]

The Demon Roach wasn’t much bigger, at roughly twenty meters. Its entire body was encased in armored chitin, and the tips of its six limbs were ball-shaped like boxing gloves.

Staggering Life Energy radiated from the Demon Roach. More importantly, the pressure both offspring released reached the Macrocosm rank. The combined force of their auras was enough to make Han Wu recognize the threat he was under.

The Battle Dragon Emperor showed no fear when she felt their pressure. If anything, she looked excited. The stronger the opponent, the better the fight!

She considered both insects worthy opponents.

The Reaper Mantis and Demon Roach eyed Han Wu’s group and shook their heads. Mesocosm fighters didn’t interest them at all. Their gazes quickly locked onto the still-wildly spinning Black Wheel Tyrant. The lingering aura of the Colossal Centipede on it stirred something within them.

Their brother had been turned into a weapon!

The Reaper Mantis surged forward, its furious voice radiating through its soul. “You turned my brother into a weapon. Unforgivable!”

It swung its scythes in a frenzy. Each swing produced an impossibly sharp blade pressure that flew toward Han Wu.

Han Wu swiftly deflected the blade pressures one after another with Peerless. While dodging, he noticed something. Whenever a blade pressure struck one of his corpse soldiers, the corpse shattered instead of regenerating.

That meant the Reaper Mantis’s blade pressures were on par with or exceeded the power of a Jurisdiction. A hit from one of those would severely injure him.

Han Wu grew focused. Recalling Black Wheel Tyrant, he held it up as a shield, gripping Peerless in his other hand. Armed with both Divine Weapons, his overall presence surged.

“You take that one. I’ll handle the other,” the Battle Dragon Emperor said, launching herself at the Demon Roach without waiting for a response.

Han Wu wanted to stop her but feared exposing an opening to the Reaper Mantis and could only let the Battle Dragon Emperor fly off.

Anyone with eyes could see that the Demon Roach intended to sit back and watch, six limbs comfortably crossed. The Battle Dragon Emperor had gone out of her way to drag it into the fight.

She had taken a two-on-one advantage and turned it into two separate one-on-one fights, turning their advantage into a disadvantage!

Han Wu wanted to punch the Battle Dragon Emperor in the head and let some water drain out of her skull, but it was too late to change anything now. Swallowing his frustration, he shifted his attention back to the enemy in front of him.

The fight erupted between one blink and the next.

Han Wu closed the distance to the Reaper Mantis like lightning, slashing out with Peerless.

One of the mantis’s scythes intercepted it, and its other scythe lashed out in a counter.

Han Wu caught it with Black Wheel Tyrant.

Their first exchange ended in a stalemate.
