“Han Wu, what do you think you’re doing? I’m warning you, Elder Gu Feng has already become the Dark God King. You will regret it if you touch me!” Gu Bei threatened.

Unfortunately, he didn’t even believe his own words.

“I’d love to see what the newly ascended Dark God King can do to me,” Han Wu replied.

During the divine war between the Life and Death Factions, he hadn’t even feared the Destruction Clan. Now that they had fled to the Beast Tamer Civilization like stray dogs, he had even less reason to fear them.

Gu Bei’s face went deathly pale. He knew that he wasn’t getting out of this alive.

“The Destruction Clan made outstanding contributions to the Divine Civilization. We are heroes of the civilization. You can’t just kill me!” Gu Bei said, hoping that the clan’s former glory would be enough to save his life.

Han Wu scoffed. “Sure, the Destruction Clan once made enormous contributions to the Divine Civilization’s development. How many years ago was that? Fifty? A hundred? How many terrible things has your clan committed under the protection of that reputation?

“If I didn’t have a solid background, you would’ve stolen the Giant Crest from me. If I were just an ordinary guy, a single spit from your clan would’ve been enough to drown me.

“The Divine Civilization is vast. Your clan’s contributions accounted for only a small part of its development. No family gets to live off its past achievements forever. The Destruction Clan is no exception.”

Gu Bei collapsed to the ground, all strength gone from his body.

The clan member beside him still had some fight left in him. He summoned his eight Summoned Beasts at once, each radiating dense Destruction Energy.

These Summoned Beasts were special units the Destruction Clan had cultivated through secret techniques. They could wield some of the Destruction skills and were quite powerful compared with life forms of the same rank.

Unfortunately, the strongest among them was an Earthsunder life form. Against Dark Locust, they weren’t even a challenge. One burst of his Dark Authority was all it took to suppress every last one of them.

Han Wu didn’t order Dark Locust to kill them. Instead, he called the Origin of Mutation over to study those creatures that possessed Destruction Energy.

After its examination, the Origin of Mutation reported, “Vessel, these life forms have undergone genetic modification. That’s how they can wield Destruction Energy.”

Han Wu nodded. “Can you reverse-engineer the modification?”

The Origin of Mutation shook his head. “There’s too little experimental data. The odds of fully understanding how this works aren’t great.”

Han Wu was disappointed. After all, Destruction Energy was incredibly formidable. Although its killing chance didn’t have much effect against higher-ranked life forms, it was a trump card against opponents of the same or lower rank.

Imagine two evenly matched fighters who’d normally need three days and three nights of brutal combat before one finally won by the narrowest of margins.

With Destruction Energy, as long as the effect proceeded, the opponent would be annihilated in both body and soul. It was the equivalent of a cheat code for mowing down enemies. Letting such a power slip through his fingers would be a tremendous waste.

Then the Origin of Mutation added, “But... I can purify their blood into a serum and use it to cultivate units.”

Han Wu gave the Origin of Mutation an exasperated look. “Could you finish your sentences in one go next time?”

He turned to Gu Bei. If even the Destruction Clan’s Summoned Beasts possessed Destruction Energy, then the clan members themselves, who all carried Destruction Aspects, should be able to wield it even more effectively.

Gu Bei squirmed under Han Wu’s gaze. “I’m warning you. A warrior can be killed but not humiliated. Don’t you dare try anything on me.”

He was already a prisoner, but his mouth was as stubborn as ever. Not that his stubbornness could withstand Han Wu’s fists.

The Origin of Mutation guessed Han Wu’s intention and leapt toward Gu Bei. Without a word of warning, he pulled out a knife and sliced Gu Bei’s arm. As blood seeped out from the wound, the Origin of Mutation dabbed a finger in it and tasted it.

His eyes lit up. “Vessel, his bloodline is pure enough. I can work with this.”

Han Wu nodded immediately. “Don’t let them escape. I won’t have another Butcher incident.”

The Origin of Mutation was already deaf to Han Wu’s warning. Thoughts of his new test subjects had fully consumed his mind.

Gu Bei realized how dire his situation had become, but under the Beast Tamer Civilization’s Will, he was no different from an ordinary person. He couldn’t even kill himself.

They were inside the Beast Tamer Civilization, so opening a divine realm was impossible.

Han Wu had the resurrected Bow God Bart use his Void powers to imprison Gu Bei, the other clan member, and all of their Summoned Beasts.

Outside Wildlion City, the undead invasion continued. Powerful Summoned Beasts thrashed and leapt through the skeleton sea. Every strike killed masses of skeletons, but the skeletons only multiplied.

The skeleton sea seemed to contain some kind of inexhaustible magic. No matter how strong the opposing Summoned Beasts were, they could only watch as the endless waves swallowed them bit by bit.

By the time night had passed, Wildlion City had finally fallen.

Jing Jing had deliberately directed the skeleton sea to surround the city completely. She suspected the Destruction Clan was most likely holed up inside. Why else would Gu Bei and his companion have appeared there?

She was right. After the divine war between the Life and Death Factions, every elite fighter in the Destruction Clan had been killed during the counter-invasions. Only Gu Feng, the clan’s strongest remaining member, and a group of elderly people, women, and children remained.

Fearing the Death God King would come after them inside the Divine Civilization, Gu Feng had fled with the clan to the Beast Tamer Civilization. Unfortunately, it hadn’t been enough. The hunters had followed them.

As a God King, Gu Feng still held an edge even under the Beast Tamer Civilization’s strict restrictions. He could draw upon his Divine Jurisdiction to access a portion of his power.

Using the Dark Jurisdiction, he carved out a Dark Space that allowed him to funnel units from his divine realm through a backdoor. They would first enter the Dark Space before he summoned them out. It was a roundabout process, but it effectively let him command his units in battle.

When the skeleton sea first appeared, Gu Feng had assumed it was a routine undead invasion. Only after summoning many units to fight did he notice something wrong. Those skeletons had unusual attributes. Normal skeletons should possess a combination of death, darkness, and bone attributes. Instead, those skeleton soldiers possessed soul attributes.

He had seen that exact pattern during the divine war. The realization hit him immediately: pursuers from the Divine Civilization had arrived.

“Damn it all! They chased us all the way to the Beast Tamer Civilization? Can’t they just leave us a way to survive?” Gu Feng roared as he led a force of elite units out to see who had the nerve to hunt him down.
