The other side of Reincarnation

Part one hundred fifty nine — Chloe

Kai looked up the moment the door opened, immediately registering something profoundly wrong about the presence Ivy had brought with her.

"What is that?" he said, staring at the aura rolling off the bound, silent girl in her grip. "That's— that's not normal."

"A vampire," Null-Subconsciousness supplied. "Currently bound by four separate curses."

"Four?" Kai said. "Somebody really hated her."

"She was born with them," it clarified. "Like you, she's reincarnated into this world."

 Kai went still.

"Wait. Ivy—is this her? The one they call Vanessa?"

 "Yes," Ivy confirmed.

"What do you plan to do with her?" Nero asked.

"Stabilize her," Kai said, already moving. "Alright, Ivy—release her."

The moment the barrier fell, Vanessa launched herself directly at him, unthinking, purely instinctual violence.

Null-Subconsciousness activated Kai's own dimension automatically, pulling her inside it and leaving the two of them alone.

Her own ability—something that bypassed conventional defenses entirely—simply failed against him, unable to find purchase.

Chains erupted from the ground, pinning her in midair.

Kai approached quietly and placed a hand against her head.

"I understand how you feel," he said, and meant it.

She began to calm, slowly. The corrupted mana driving her own soul's collapse gradually eased under his influence.

"I can't remove the curse itself," he told her gently. "It was given to you the moment you were reincarnated. But I can make sure you control it, instead of it controlling you."

Her eyes opened, just slightly, some flicker of actual awareness returning.

"I'm going to fix this properly," Kai said. "Would you like a new name?"

She didn't fully understand the question.

 She nodded anyway.

 "Chloe," Kai said.

"Naming complete. Evolution condition fulfilled. Corri Vanessa has transcended her racial limitations. Select an evolution path. Option one: Primordial Vampire. Option two: Vampire Lord."

"Another one with options?" Kai said. "I pick both."

"Evolutionary fusion complete. Designation: True Vampire Lord."

 Then, unexpectedly—

"Error detected. Evolution path has been broken. A new species has been confirmed. Do you wish to continue the evolution into this new species?"

"That's new," Kai said. "Where did an error even come from? Yes—continue."

 The clock appeared once more.

 It ticked several times.

 Then stopped entirely.

"Evolution confirmed. Evolution complete. Designation: Blood Sovereign."

The spellwork faded, and Chloe slumped forward into Kai's arms, unconscious.

"Why was there an error?" Kai asked.

"Null mana fused directly with her soul," it explained, "and her soul couldn't fully contain the intended path. The evolution skipped True Vampire Lord entirely, creating Blood Sovereign instead—a vessel actually capable of holding what you gave her."

She woke a moment later, looking up at him with clear, lucid eyes for what was likely the first time in fifteen years.

 "Who are you?" she asked.

"I'm Kai," he said. "I'll explain everything, but for now—"

 He didn't finish the sentence.

 She bit him.

Sudden and unhesitating, she drew directly from his own throat.

How did she even get past my defense that easily? Kai thought, more confused than alarmed.

"The naming granted her full control over her own power," Null-Subconsciousness explained. "Including the hunger that's driven her for fifteen years. It's been redirected. Entirely toward you."

 "What does that mean, exactly?"

"It means, going forward, she will neither attack nor feed from anyone except you."

"You have got to be kidding me."

Chloe finished drinking, pulled back, and looked at him with an expression that had nothing left of the mindless hunger she'd carried into that room.

Something considerably softer had replaced it—though Kai, still processing everything else, hadn't yet fully registered exactly what that softness meant.

She's fallen for him. Completely, immediately, irreversibly, Ivy thought privately, watching the whole exchange unfold with quiet amusement.
