The Only Cultivator in a World of Hunters

Chapter 182 - Nyx’s Decision

Nexus had known Lailah for long enough to see right through her intentions. What she said about respecting her homeroom teacher was true, but besides that, there was another issue as well.

"If you want to study in Frost's class, you can just tell me directly. Going around in circles like this, isn't your real intention just to eat unlimited free ice cream?"

Looking at Lailah's expression, wanting something but not saying it, Nexus found it quite funny.

Lailah clearly wanted anything she could get, but the reality was that she didn't have a single penny to her name. She liked sweets, but she didn't like stealing from anyone, so when she heard about free ice cream, she would naturally be very happy.

An ordinary person who ate too much ice cream day after day would probably get all kinds of diseases, but Lailah was anything but ordinary.

She was literally an eternal, unlimited ice cream consumer. Other than not being able to have greater strength than an ordinary person, Lailah's body was completely unreasonable.

"Hehe, didn't expect to get found out. You don't have any other objections, right?"

Lailah awkwardly scratched her head. She thought she had acted normal enough, but she didn't expect to be exposed immediately.

"Tsk, are you sure you're asking me?"

There was no proper answer to give. Nexus only clicked his tongue and asked her back because there was something very wrong with this question.

"So that means you agree."

Lailah stuck out a little bit of her tongue and smiled with her eyes narrowed. She knew Nexus would go along with what she wanted, but if she didn't ask, it would seem like she was taking his indulgence for granted and disregarding other people's opinions.

To Nexus, this wasn't even worth caring about, but Lailah was trying her best to keep herself from straying as much as possible, so she paid attention to things like this.

Down below, the class assignments had also been completed. Everyone was moving toward the class they had just been 'randomly' assigned to.

Call them classes, but don't think of them like ordinary school classes because their scale was far too enormous.

Each class was a completely separate area with large buildings containing all the equipment necessary for every need of the students.

Around the study areas were residential areas. Each area had up to a thousand houses for students, and there was even plenty of empty land left to build more if necessary.

Even before the opening ceremony, the students had already rented the houses they wanted. The only exceptions were Nexus, Lailah, and Mark.

Of the three, only Mark had to struggle with his living arrangements, while no one could stop Nexus and Lailah if they wanted to sleep in the atmospheric layer.

In a secluded corner of one of the many parks on campus, Nyx was still very actively interrogating Mark.

After quite a while of trying to have a very 'civilized' conversation. More specifically, Nyx would ask a few questions and then threaten Mark to keep him from pulling any tricks, and she had more or less understood how cultivation worked.

Mark couldn't reveal anything about the cultivation technique because Nexus always kept it confidential, but there was no problem with explaining the basic concepts to Nyx.

"I've decided. I don't have any important plans right now anyway, so I definitely have to learn. Where should I go to get spiritual herbs?"

Nyx gently stroked her chin as she thought. She didn't come from any wealthy family because she had grown up in an orphanage.

Speaking of which, orphanages really were places that produced many top talents in the hunter world. It's just that the chances of producing an S-rank hunter were extremely low.

Nyx was an orphan. Since childhood, she had never understood what parental love was and didn't need it either. Loneliness or feeling hurt, she couldn't feel any of it at all.

Having somewhat strange thoughts was normal for high-rank hunters. A personality like this gave them very high mental endurance, which was why they were qualified to awaken powerful abilities.

The major organizations weren't unaware of this, but they didn't have any effective ideas either because this was something innate.

Even with training, it could only be improved, not change the nature of an ordinary person into a superhero.

No matter how unusual her personality was, it couldn't make up for a lack of knowledge. Nyx hadn't been exposed to the upper levels of the hunter world for long enough to know where to find rare things like spiritual herbs.

"Whatever. First, I need to find Nexus."

She raised her head and looked at the sky for a few seconds, but couldn't see anything at all. Still, she was certain Nexus was somewhere above.

"You did well. If you run into any trouble in the future, you can use my name."

Suddenly, Nyx praised him, leaving Mark stunned. All he had heard from her until now were threats. Hearing praise like this out of nowhere left her unable to react for a moment.

"You… will really step in and help me?"

Although he felt a little pressured, if he could get an S-rank hunter to back him, Mark felt that everything he had gone through was completely worth it.

But life wasn't as beautiful as a dream. Nyx only tilted her head and looked at Mark. Even though he couldn't see her eyes, it was definitely the look an ordinary person used when looking at an idiot.

"You're dreaming too much. I only allow you to say my name in front of other people. I never promised to help you."

"Ah, remember to open the academy's app to choose your class. If you're late, I have no idea what will happen to you."

Nyx said that and flew away while Mark was still standing there in a daze. It could be said that Mark had been working for free this whole time and hadn't gotten any benefits at all.

"What the hell app? My phone… Damn it! Where the hell is my phone now?"

The moment he heard about the phone, Mark immediately panicked. Ever since he met Nexus, his life had been completely turned upside down. During this time, he hadn't even touched his phone, so he couldn't remember where it was or whether it still worked.

"Sigh, I'm probably the only student in this academy without a phone, right?"

Mark tilted his head back and sighed at the sky. Even though he didn't have the ability to see the future, Mark was certain that there were still plenty of unlucky things waiting for him ahead.
