Chapter 253: Chapter 249: The Baron’s Death

The "calamity of bloodshed" was just a figurative expression. That strange red light didn’t necessarily mean a fatal threat. And while it felt like it would happen soon, it probably wouldn’t be in the next day or two.

She had already attached a trace of Magic Power to the two of them, just in case.

Su Su’s Magic Power leaned more toward the mystical side. If attached to a person’s body without their mental acceptance, it would be rejected by their body and soul. This would not only drain the Magic Power but also leave the host feeling weak and fatigued, lowering their resistance and possibly even causing them to fall ill.

So this time, Su Su carefully attached the Magic Power to the Protective Talismans the two were wearing—the Small Jade Talismans they each wore close to their chests.

To be honest, there was a reason people suspected they were gay. They wore the exact same piece of jewelry. If she hadn’t known from her divination that they were both straight, Su Su would have bet their relationship was more than just friendship.

Since it wasn’t attached to a living being, it couldn’t be nourished by a body and soul. This small amount of Magic Power would only last for a few days, and that was only because the Jade Artifacts themselves had certain special properties.

With this safeguard in place, she could be sure to locate them quickly through divination if needed.

But right now, her Mentor’s summons was more important.

She ran cheerfully to the parking lot, pulled a car key from her bag, and pressed a button. A black-and-white MINI unlocked.

Su Su had been a car owner for half a month now. Even for a Magic Controller, getting a beautiful private vehicle was still a very happy occasion.

However, compared to the car’s price, Su Su’s salary seemed meager. While most people assumed her family had helped her, a small, jealous minority gossiped that she was being kept by a sugar daddy.

Most people would have been furious to hear such rumors, but Su Su, far from being angry, actually felt a secret thrill of joy.

The money was from Sun Tian, but the car was a gift from her Mentor.

’If only the rumors were true~’

"Ah!! Su Su, what are you thinking? Your Mentor is waiting for you!"

Pulling herself together, she started the car and drove out of the parking lot, heading toward Qingzhen.

At 3:30 in the afternoon, Su Su arrived in Qingzhen. She parked in a spot outside of town and hurried excitedly to the Secret Place.

With Monkey and the Gou Junbao couple gone, the Secret Place felt much quieter. When she arrived, Qin Xiaoxia was outside studying a map.

"CHIRP~~ SQUAWK~~"

Gou Dandan, already the size of a chicken, squawked excitedly at Su Su from the roof.

Then, in a comical fashion, it hopped from the ridge to the tiles, and then continued hopping its way down the roof.

Yes, although Gou Dandan had grown a lot, it was still a bald bird. It had the heart of a creature that longed for the sky, but lacked the wings to support that longing. It had gotten to the roof entirely thanks to its powerful leg strength.

If one looked closely, however, they would notice that Gou Dandan’s fleshy figure had a somewhat human-like contour; it wasn’t gaunt like a typical fledgling.

"You’re here? Come take a look at this map."

Hearing her Mentor’s words, Su Su hurried over to the wicker table.

"This map is a bit off. I need you to pay attention to these points. Swap their positions, like this."

He used his Magic Power to tap the corresponding locations on the map, simulating the correct order for the swap.

"Got it?"

"Yes!"

Qin Xiaoxia looked up and smiled at her.

"Alright then. Help me find these star points on the map. See which ones are still intact, and which are the largest and best-preserved."

Just then, Gou Dandan finally made it down from the roof. It leaped and flapped, pouncing into Su Su’s arms, its momentum cushioned by her soft, springy chest.

"Dandan, go play. Auntie Su Su has work to do."

Placing the bald bird to one side, Su Su took a few deep breaths and pressed her hand onto the map.

A historical aura immediately rose up in her Perception.

The Crystal Ball in her bag flew out on its own. Enveloped in Magic Power, it resonated with Su Su’s spirit. Layers of mist appeared, making it seem as if her eyes, now one with the Crystal Ball, were gazing down from above the clouds.

The land below the blurry clouds looked strangely artificial, exactly like the map, as if the scale between the sky and the continent was completely disproportionate.

Her finger gently touched a star point on the map. The clouds before her eyes seemed to dissipate slightly, and the distance to the land closed in an instant. The view changed from several continents seen from high above to a vast, endless ground, and the feeling shifted from artificial to real.

Her misty vision finally settled on a towering skyscraper.

Su Su’s expression immediately fell. She understood what the star points on the map represented, and this was clearly not her target.

Her finger moved lightly, divining the exact location of one star point after another.

Some had long been destroyed and demolished, with skyscrapers built on the original sites. Others were in remote wildernesses with not even a single brick remaining. Still others were nothing but dilapidated, crumbling ruins.

However, some were still intact, though their form was different from what she had imagined.

After more than ten minutes, Su Su’s breathing was slightly ragged. In her effort to see more clearly and obtain more information, she had consumed a large amount of Magic Power. A light sheen of sweat covered her body, and a few strands of hair were stuck to her cheeks.

But from her brilliant smile, Qin Xiaoxia knew the effort hadn’t been in vain.

Sure enough, there were still some intact Association buildings in each continent. Europe had the most, while Africa and America had the fewest.

A few of the locations she found in her divination turned out to be genuine surprises.

Su Su was brimming with excitement as she described them to Qin Xiaoxia.

But her expectant gaze toward her Mentor soon turned to one of annoyance, as she remembered she still had to keep an eye on those two guys.

She reluctantly told her Mentor about it. With a wave of his hand, Qin Xiaoxia had the Celestial Traveler’s Hall handle it.

This time, he would be indulgent and satisfy Su Su’s desire to tag along and join the fun.

...

Hilbert Chakus was a 28-year-old British man, approaching thirty.

He came from a true noble family that many could only dream of, possessing family wealth, an ancestral home, and even a private island.

Hilbert had received a good education from a young age, enjoying a life of luxury. However, he was also constrained by numerous rules and regulations. It wasn’t until he started attending a noble boarding school in his junior high years that he experienced "true freedom."

Like many kids, Hilbert went through a rebellious phase. Even his stern father couldn’t seem to control him. He transformed from a well-mannered young nobleman into a trendy, rebellious teenager.

In high school and college, he started running all over the world, rarely returning home to visit.

The world was so vast, the sights so diverse. With his family’s solid financial backing, he never had to worry about travel or living expenses. And although his father disapproved of his son’s behavior, he couldn’t hide his affection and always made sure to deposit enough money into his account.

But just as the sky is not always clear, Hilbert’s wonderful life would not last forever.

His world came crashing down.

His father, Johnson Chakus, had passed away. It was so sudden, so unexpected!

The wandering Hilbert hadn’t given his family his contact information abroad. It was only when he called home after his mother had no choice but to freeze his account that he learned the terrible news.

’Father, the pillar of the family who rarely smiled but had held such high hopes for me since I was a child, was gone?’

’That rigid man, who had always been so proud of the name Baron Chakus, had passed away?’

Hilbert had always known his parents loved him, but he had rarely returned home in recent years. The moment he learned of his father’s death, boundless self-reproach erupted in his heart.

By the time he returned to the family’s large estate on the outskirts of Bangor City, his father’s autopsy report had just arrived. The body itself was temporarily being kept at the hospital.

After the travel-worn Hilbert and his haggard mother embraced and wept, he picked up the autopsy report to read it.

"Impossible!! Father was always in good health and kept a very regular schedule! How could he have died from a sudden heart attack! The Chakus Clan has no history of heart disease!!"

"Hilbert... you have to accept reality..."

His mother watched her frantic son, terrified that something would happen to her only remaining support.
