Chapter 1249: Chapter 551: Perhaps His Legend Truly Exists in the Jianghu (2)
"It’s not right to act directly, it’ll make us look like bullies."
"Then what do you suggest? Just let him get away? I can’t accept that." Bai Bufan frowned.
Lin Li didn’t say anything; he slowly took out two boxes of pop pop firecrackers from his jacket pocket.
He tossed one box to Bai Bufan.
"To deal with bratty kids, you need to use a language they understand. Use their own tricks against them."
Bai Bufan curled up a smile, glancing at the firecrackers in his hand. They were more powerful than the ones kids played with—after all, he bought them for himself—but they’re relatively safe, mainly flashy.
Perfect to scare that guy.
"Got it!"
The two exchanged a glance, hesitated no more, and immediately chased after the fleeing child.
With the difference in leg length, they easily caught up, lighting the firecrackers in their hands with a sinister grin.
"Whoosh—pop!"
"Whoosh—pop!"
The small firecrackers broke through the air and exploded on the road just in front of the little boy.
Because they were different from the ones the little boy played with, more powerful and intimidating, he screamed in shock.
"Hey! Kid! Why are you running?" Bai Bufan shouted while chasing, his face already donned with a series of expressions, his hand never stopped with the firecrackers:
"Isn’t it fun to play? I’ll play with you all you want, kiddo!"
Lin Li was already using strategic maneuvers, taking a small curve, surrounding and intercepting!
The thrown pop pop firecrackers never aimed to hit, but intentionally landed on the path that the little boy tried to change direction, or exploded right behind his running feet, creating continuous fear and pressure.
"Pop! Pop! Pop!"
The crisp crackling of firecrackers was incessant, white smoke appearing around the increasingly panicked boy as he yelled.
"Ah! Stop bombing! Go away!"
The boy darted around the trash bin and greenery, trying to escape those two devils behind.
"Like bombing the defenseless, huh? How convenient, I like bombing the ones who can’t fight back! Scared now, aren’t you?" Bai Bufan mocked while chasing, unrelenting with the firecrackers that blocked the boy’s way.
The boy, hearing this, turned around courageously and threw another one.
Bai Bufan was even more excited: "Oh! You’ve learned to fight back! I like you more!"
The boy wished Mrs. Bai a happy new year.
He ran, they chased, he couldn’t fly away.
Eventually, under their pursuit, they cornered the panicked little Demon into a dead end—a narrow gap where junk was piled, flanked by two buildings with a high fence behind, and several abandoned boxes beside.
With no way to retreat, the boy’s back pressed tightly against the cold wall, just like the cat earlier.
Seeing the menacing smiles of Lin Li and Bai Bufan closing in, all his arrogance faded, leaving only sheer terror.
"How’s this taste?"
"Do you like it?"
"Huh?"
Faced with their questioning, the Demon’s tears instantly flowed out, mixing with snot, smearing his face.
"Waaaaa—!!!"
"What’s the crying about," Lin Li was unmoved, "Feeling uncomfortable now?"
Though inside, Lin Li was thrilled because—
[Deter, prevent malicious intent to harm Spirit Beasts or related misdeeds at least three times (1/3)]
His system panel had just updated.
Unexpectedly, this counts as one misdeed prevented.
Come to think of it, Lin Li now doubts if he injured dog bowls when he was a kid counts as malicious harm to Spirit Beasts.
Wood-Lee-Wood-Wood, you’ve been caught.
What, damaged your little dog bowl?
Still, it’s ’good news’ because it means there’s a high chance he can complete the task during the Spring Festival.
"Alright," his thoughts returned to the present, but before Lin Li and Bai Bufan could continue, a unit door of a nearby building loudly swung open, and a slightly hunched yet extremely rapid figure rushed out.
An elderly woman with graying hair wearing a new cotton jacket, her face showing urgency and protective anger clearly visible, like Wang Xifeng in an Old Deng version, her voice preceding her arrival.
In a half-dialect, half-Mandarin reprimand:
"Jiejie? Are you crying? Who’s bullying my Jiejie?! Stop it—!"
"Granny!!" shouted the cornered little Demon again.
Having found the target, the old woman approached rapidly, her manner hostile.
Lin Li and Bai Bufan exchanged a glance, feeling unease in their hearts.
Who dares claim invincibility, and who dares to declare undefeatable, even the imperial era doesn’t show itself, the protective Old Deng inscription has been automatically configured.
Sure enough, before they could get any closer, the old woman sternly scolded: "What are you doing! Why are you bullying my grandson? Cornering him like that, is there no justice?"
Faced with the excessive protectiveness and unreasonable old lady, Lin Li and Bai Bufan tried to explain the situation clearly.
"Ma’am, you misunderstood." Lin Li tried to keep a calm tone, pointing to the trash bin corner not far away, "Your boy was the one maliciously bombing cats over there; we saw it and stepped in to stop him.
The cat was so scared it shrank into the corner, not even daring to move, and kept crying."
"Yes, ma’am," Bai Bufan nodded in agreement, "We just wanted him to stop bullying small animals."
The old lady merely glanced at the corner instinctively, her face showing no guilt or understanding, instead frowning more tightly, her voice growing sharper:
"Bomb cats? Bombed them, so what! A few stray cats and dogs, filthy—they might even carry disease, should’ve been dealt with long ago! Bombing them away isn’t that just perfect? You two big guys, why are you bickering with a little kid?"
