"Get enough sleep?" she asked.

"Not really. I was woken up," Sean said with a yawn. "Did something happen outside?"

Elise said nothing, simply studying him.

It was as if she was trying to tell from his expression whether he genuinely didn’t know or was just pretending.

Sean looked baffled. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Elise shot him a coquettish look. "C’mere."

Sean: "?"

Elise: "Because you’re handsome."

Sean: "..."

It was a familiar conversation.

Only the roles had been reversed.

"What’s gotten into you?" Sean feigned annoyance, casually grabbing a bottle of mineral water from the TV stand. He twisted it open, took a sip, and said, "I’m asking you something serious. Stop thinking about me all the time. You’re like a little greedy kitten all day..."

Elise blinked. "Isn’t a wife supposed to crave her husband?"

’It would be a problem if she didn’t.’

"Answer me first, and you can get your fill later," Sean said. "What just happened?"

Elise pursed her lips. "You really don’t know?"

"I really don’t," Sean said, a hint of helplessness in his voice. "I was asleep. By the time I opened the window, the crowd outside was already starting to disperse. I didn’t see a thing."

"Fine." It was unclear if Elise believed him. "Mr. Blake was just here," she said.

Sean: "And then?"

Elise: "He told your friend Lauden to go see him. Lauden came right away, and Mr. Blake told him to do as you said. That was it."

"That’s it?" Sean’s interest immediately flagged. "I thought it was something serious."

Elise asked, puzzled, "You don’t seem surprised at all?"

Sean retorted, "Why should I be surprised?"

"I was the one who invited Lord Blake."

Elise: "?"

"You invited Lord Blake here??"

"Who else?"

Sean said, "You think when I’m sleeping, I’m just sleeping?"

Elise suddenly recalled that the last few times Mr. Blake had needed to communicate something, he had always informed Sean by Entering the Dream, who then relayed the message to everyone else.

"So, you and Mr. Blake... you communicate through dreams?" Elise asked.

Sean feigned surprise. "You even figured that out?"

Elise rolled her eyes. "I’m not an idiot."

Sean: "Pfft... Ahem."

Elise: "?"

"What are you laughing at?"

"Nothing."

Sean’s expression turned serious. "In any case, the resource issue is half-solved. For the other half, we need to find a way to infiltrate the Church Passage and check it out."

"Hold on a second." Elise could tell Sean was changing the subject, but she wasn’t going to let him. "There’s something I’m very curious about."

Sean: "Hm?"

Elise walked over, sat down across from him, and looked him in the eye. "We’re the ones who want these resources. Why would Mr. Blake agree to you ’amassing wealth’ in his name, and even show up personally to ’vouch’ for you?"

’No matter how I think about it, it’s just bizarre.’

’Was Mr. Blake always this agreeable?’

"Sigh." Sean sighed. "I just complimented you on your intelligence, and now you’re showing your true colors."

"The big picture! Think about the big picture!"

Elise: "?"

"What does this have to do with the big picture?"

Sean put down the mineral water. "Think carefully. Who are we?"

Elise actually gave it some serious thought before tentatively replying, "A pair of shameless lovers?"

Sean: "?"

’Insult yourself all you want, but leave this guy out of it!’

"I mean our status," Sean said.

Elise: "Followers of the Holy Sanctuary?"

"Exactly," Sean nodded, then corrected her. "But don’t use the word ’followers.’ Lord Blake doesn’t like followers. We should call ourselves descendants of the Holy Sanctuary."

Elise: "And then?"

"Whose is the Holy Sanctuary?" Sean asked again, then answered himself: "Lord Blake’s."

"We belong to the Holy Sanctuary, and the Holy Sanctuary belongs to Lord Blake. Doesn’t that mean we’re Lord Blake’s people?"

"So when Lord Blake helps us, he’s helping himself. Get it?"

"The Holy Sanctuary is in ruins now. If Lord Blake wants to make a comeback, he’ll have to foster a new power base. Our Dawn Council is part of that."

Sean’s argument was sound. "Otherwise, why would Lord Blake have appeared during your meeting last time?"

Elise: "..."

’That... actually makes a bit of sense, doesn’t it?’

’The logic seems sound.’

’But is that really how it is?’

Elise didn’t press the issue. Instead, she asked a different question: "So what’s your plan now?"

"We’ll stick to the original plan," Sean said. "Lauden will definitely come see me tomorrow to discuss the mission details. I’ll make a list for him. After that, I’ll focus on my Cultivation here in Blake City. Once you reach Tier Six, we’ll take a trip to the Church Passage."

For him and Elise, this Underground City was currently their safest haven in the "New World."

An even safer place was False Heaven, but he didn’t know how to get there.

Besides, Sean didn’t want to run to Her Highness the Saintess for every little thing.

Especially with a woman by his side.

It wasn’t a matter of having a guilty conscience, he simply didn’t want to always be leeching off a woman.

’So, I’ll just have to make do in Blake City for now.’

"Well, you’re in for a long wait then, Mr. Writer," Elise said.

She was still a little shy of Tier Five, so breaking through to Tier Six...

...would probably not happen until the next Day of Abstinence.

Sean raised an eyebrow. "You think that little of yourself?"

He had expected her to have a snappy comeback as usual, but this time, Elise didn’t argue. Instead, she nodded. "Yes. I do think that little of myself."

Sean: "..."

That, in turn, kind of threw him for a loop.

Elise let out a soft sigh. "You’re all just too exceptional."

When she first became a Wizard and her consciousness awakened, she had actually been a very proud person.

After all, she was a Reshaper. Even though her identity before the reshaping was unremarkable, she still held a huge advantage over ordinary Wizards.
