The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 396 - 186: "Going Home
Carlos was overjoyed. "Really?"
Regel smiled and patted his face. His eyes held a mix of feigned displeasure and doting affection. "When have I ever lied to you?"
"Thank you, Father!" Carlos’s eyes welled with tears.
After all these years, he could finally hear the sounds of the world like a normal person.
"Father, can we move Mother’s piano to my room?" Carlos asked.
Regel was taken aback. "Don’t you hate the piano more than anything?"
When Carlos was a child, everyone said his mother was a wonderful pianist. Whenever she sat down at the piano, the servants would grow bold and secretly gather at the door to listen. Regel also believed his wife was the most beautiful pianist in the world. But Carlos alone could not hear the music. It made him feel isolated from the rest of the world, and so he came to hate the piano.
After that, his wife never played the piano again. To this day, that expensive piano had been sealed away in the attic for eighteen years. Only when he occasionally thought of it would he go and take a look.
"Father, I’m so sorry for what I did to Mother..." Carlos’s eyes were filled with guilt.
When he was young, he was immature. He thought the world should revolve around him, and that anything he couldn’t hear was garbage.
It wasn’t until he went to the farm through the Secret Technique and his Soul Reflection gained normal hearing that he discovered how beautiful and enchanting the piano truly was. He practically lived in the Royal Opera House. Whenever he heard those graceful melodies, he would wonder, ’When Mother used to play, was it even more beautiful than this?’
Filled with longing for his mother, he gradually fell in love with the piano, and with women who could play it. If all went as expected, he, like his father, would one day marry a beautiful pianist.
"You’ve grown up." Regel was gratified.
He was very happy to see Carlos embrace the piano, because in a way, the piano represented his mother to Carlos.
His wife’s greatest regret before she died was that her son had never grown to like her. The misunderstanding and conflict between mother and son had begun with the piano, and now, it was resolved through the piano. Nothing could bring a father and a husband more comfort.
The old servant was so moved that his eyes filled with tears.
What a wonderful family.
Unfortunately.
People’s joys and sorrows are their own.
Everyone has their own story.
Just as the father and son were having a heart-to-heart after their long separation, the old woman who had been trudging through the snowy plains for a long time finally arrived at Wolf Castle.
"Your Lordship, someone from the Church Court is here."
A subordinate rushed over to report.
Regel did not dare to be negligent. He quickly wiped his tears, composed himself, and told Carlos to change his clothes.
"Quick, come with me to greet them."
At the castle gate.
Regel quickly came down with Carlos. With a humble smile, he bowed respectfully to the old woman.
"You’ve had a long journey, Your Excellency."
’He was actually very curious. Why was someone sent by the Church Court dressed so shabbily? A low-quality cotton coat and a worn-out Wizard Hat—it looked like an outfit from decades ago. But he didn’t dare ask. As everyone knew, every Grand Mage had their own eccentricities. Perhaps this old woman was nostalgic and simply liked this style?’
"I thank the Church Court for its grace, and I thank Your Excellency for traveling such a great distance specifically to treat my son."
"I am Regel, the current Clan Leader of the Wolf Family."
Regel asked cautiously, "And how should I address Your Excellency?"
The old woman looked up, her scarred face breaking into a smile that was both gentle and eerie.
"Lilith. Former head Maid of Hesinra Palace."
