The Martial Unity

Chapter 4639: An Unraveled Future

"It feels like it has been an eternity since I last set foot in here," Amare whispered as she walked through the tranquil royal quarters that they called home.

Their quarters were silent. They contained a tinge of loneliness that seemed to come alive with the growing darkness of twilight. Rui had been living their alone ever since Amare entered isolated training and his daughter departed to do what needed to be done.

Ria’s departure had been especially lonely to him. But he drowned himself in his next favorite thing: training, to keep himself busy. She was already eighteen, and she had made up her mind about where and how she wanted to live, so there was nothing that he could do about it beyond living how he used to before he had a family.

His attention returned to Amare, who didn’t ask him a question about Ria. Not because she didn’t care, but because she knew the answers.

"How far in the future are you?" The first question sprang from his mouth. "How did you time travel this far into the past while still retaining your stamina? Why did you return to the past?"

The countless questions he had for her simply overflowed, pausing only when she raised her hand, gesturing for him to stop.

"I will tell you everything," she spoke with a serious voice, taking a seat on the bed in their bedroom. "Everything that happened... and everything that I prevented from happening."

Her words carried with them a somber weight, one that bore down on the air. Yet, even in her macabre mood, Rui couldn’t help but admire how beautiful she looked in the dim orange light of the waning sunset. He walked over to her, sitting by her side.

"In my time..." she began with a grim voice. "I remained unbroken to the Transcendent Realm throughout the battle that all of you just fought. Argenton had been captured, and the secret had been extracted from the minds of the Divine Mothers and you... you activated Gigabrain to kill them all before they could escape."

Rui’s expression tightened with grave severity.

It was not an easy decision to make. Gigabrain’s power could not be controlled; though he had never had it activated as a Transcendent, he was not confident he could control it. Even when he achieved Enlightenment of Self, the power of Gigabrain was not hampered. Instead, it simply strengthened the ability by giving it access to his conscious rationality.

The biggest problem with Gigabrain was the information overload from his Martial Embodiment that would wipe out everybody within a certain range who couldn’t survive it. As a Martial Sage, the range was already enough to wipe out all life on Gaia unless there were impediments to information that could weaken the brunt.

He normally fought while sealing his Embodiment, preventing it from wiping out everything. One recent exception was when he invaded the Colton Star System in arakai territory, where Divine Mother oooo-o had to exert her Webverse to prevent him from genociding an entire star system of arakai.

However, when in Gigarbrain, he had no such compunctions. He simply became an adaptive evolution monster who would dedicate everything to adaptively evolving against the single greatest challenge near it, his Martial Embodiment would simply wipe everything out, and his Gigabrain self simply would not care.

When he made the choice to activate Gigabrain for the first time as a Transcendent, he knew what he was doing.

He was condemning everybody in the solar system to destruction for the sake of the future of human civilization. His faintest hope had been that he could revive everybody in the solar system afterwards if he worked very hard, but he had no hope that he could do so before all the information of them was gone.

It was a horrifying, gut-wrenching gambit, but he had no choice.

She turned towards him with a grave expression.

"You made the wrong choice, Rui."

His ethereal eyes widened at those words.

"You..." she whispered. "...are more dangerous than the entirety of Arakai Web Civilization."

Her words betrayed the horror she felt. He could see fear in the depths of her powerful amber eyes. He felt a pang of pain in his heart at that. In all the time Rui had known the woman he loved with all of his heart, she had looked at him with many expressions.

But this was the first time she had looked at him with fear.

"What... what happened?" Rui asked with a voice that was reduced to a whisper.

Amare exhaled a shaky breath, her amber eyes wandering about as she recollected everything that had happened.

"Your Martial Embodiment wiped out all humans within the solar system." Her expression grew pained. "...your half-siblings. Runark. Everybody who wasn’t a Martial Sage simply perished in the blink of an eye."

She affirmed what he knew would happen.

"But..." she continued as her voice grew darker. "...that was only the beginning."

Rui’s eyes widened at those words.

"You defeated the six Divine Mothers in six seconds."

Those words started Rui as he stared at her with an astonished expression. He tried to hide the greedy part of him that wanted this power. Just how strong was he when he activated Gigabrain as a Transcendent? He had never done it before, so he had no idea. But her words conveyed a level of power that exceeded his highest expectations.

"You defeated the six Divine Mothers, but... but you didn’t stop."

Those words made his blood chill. "...what did I do?"

Amare’s expression crumpled with terror. "You adaptively evolved..."

She turned towards him.

"...to everything around you."

Her voice grew quieter.

"...to everybody around you."

Her expression tightened. "You attacked Argenton. You attacked God’s Hammer, Mother Maeria, Jormungandr, and..."

She turned away from him. "...you killed them."

He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. "...Don’t stop."

His eyes sharpened.

"Tell me everything."

She remained silent for a few moments before turning back to him.

"You destroyed Gaia. You destroyed the solar system. And then... you went on a rampage and destroyed all of human civilization."
