The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 58: Rauf and Bingo combination.
"Sir, I’ve been receiving messages from the men back at home. There are some urgent businesses that require your attention."
Rauf frowned as Henson reported to him. He had spent almost a month in New Central State without any progress in winning June back.
Of course, there would be lots of work demanding his attention back at home. Plus, he still had a lot to recover from his five years of blindness.
But this was more important.
First, he had spent a long time trying to find June, and when he had found her, he was trying to win her back.
But it seemed she was blind to every one of his approaches. And here he was, thinking he knew her better than anyone else.
"Anything else?" He asked in a very bored tone.
"Yes, sir. Theo said the Trevors’ gang is trying to corner every one of our establishments. They are trying to make a replica of our goods and also trying to court our clients."
Rauf’s brows narrowed.
When was Samir ever going to learn?
It seemed having Serena to back him up in New Central State had gone to his head, making him think he had authority over Kansas production.
He had no idea Rauf already knew he was lying to Serena. And when she discovered that he was lying, there would be a lot to pay.
"I need you to look into everything Samir is up to. Every little thing, up to the last minute."
"Yes, sir."
Rauf waited.
Silence.
"And what else?"
Henson frowned. "Nothing else to report."
Rauf sat up. "You mean there’s nothing to report on June."
Henson stared at his boss. He knew every other piece of information he had disseminated to Rauf didn’t hold his interest. This was exactly the news he had been waiting for from him.
"So?" Rauf asked when he didn’t say a word.
"Well, sir." He began. "Mrs. Salvador recently relocated to the Vassari’s mansion..."
"What?" Rauf said, cutting Henson off from reporting the rest.
Ever since he had dropped the food for June and saw how tense she had been in his presence, he decided to use a different approach.
Though, he had no idea exactly what that approach was yet.
Courting a woman seemed to be more difficult than handling his businesses. He could find and track enemies with more ease, but understanding what women wanted or needed was an impossible mission.
There should be a book on the subject. He would gladly read that.
"Why is she at the Vassari’s mansion? And why didn’t Chris tell me anything?"
Henson already knew he was going to ask those questions. He had prepared in advance for them.
"Sir, Mrs. Salvador and Mr. Vassari have been spotted eating and going shopping together..."
There was a vein popping in Rauf’s forehead.
Although Chris had already confided in him that June was his sister.
But the fact that she was giving Chris a chance in her life and ignoring him didn’t sit well with Rauf.
She didn’t even know Chris existed until probably two or three weeks ago.
"And according to some inside information, Mr. Vassari had been seen addressing her as sister," Henson continued.
He had no idea Rauf already knew, so he was expecting the information to come as a surprise to him, but Rauf only nodded.
"Sister." He smirked.
He never knew Chris was fast at making his moves.
But then again, what did he expect from someone who had punched him in the face because he thought Rauf was cheating on his sister?
"How long has she been staying at Vassari’s mansion?"
Henson stared at his phone before looking up to reply. "Two to three days, sir."
Rauf relaxed. But suddenly, he tensed up again, as if he had just remembered something important.
"Isn’t Amie also staying at the mansion?"
Henson nodded. "Miss Amie has remained at the mansion ever since she came to the state, with no intention of coming back to Salvador’s estate."
Rauf sneered.
He didn’t want her coming back to his mansion.
But he also didn’t want her and June staying in the same place.
"I want you to add Amie to the list. I need every little detail on what she’s up to. Places she has been going to and people she has been seeing. Everything!" His tone was hard.
Henson knew he was serious about this particular instruction, and he nodded vigorously.
Knowing that Henson was capable of handling the tasks he had issued to him, Rauf relaxed a bit on the bed again.
"I guess there’s no point going to check on her at the clinic. Chris will have made sure his sister had nothing to do with that bald guy’s clinic anymore."
Rauf didn’t care much for the relationship between Chris and June, but Andy was a different issue. He was also a man. And a stranger he had no idea about.
And he might even find June attractive.
It was no wonder he didn’t want Rauf seeing June.
"Actually, sir." Henson’s voice brought him out of his thoughts. "Mrs. Salvador is still working at the clinic."
"What?" Rauf shouted for the second time. "Why would Chris do that? Does she have to work when the Vassaris can actually provide for all she needs?"
Henson remained quiet, having no idea how to answer that particular question.
Seeing that his last answer had affected the mood of his boss, Henson excused himself quietly.
Rauf continued staring at the spot Henson had been standing while giving him the information.
Bingo crawled silently, leaping onto Rauf’s leg.
And without an idea of what he was doing, his hand slowly stroked Bingo’s fur.
The dog was starting to grow on him.
His thoughts returned to June.
What she needed at the moment was rest. How could Chris let her continue working for that Andy guy, especially knowing she was pregnant?
Even though he didn’t want to visit the Vassari mansion because Amie might start acting clingy toward him, knowing that June was there had changed his mind.
It was time he visited the mansion.
Slowly, he picked up his phone and dialled Chris’s number.
No response.
A frown marred his face.
He thought they were supposed to work together, but now that he had found June, he had totally forgotten about him.
Looking at the watch, it was too late to pay a visit.
While still stroking Bingo’s fur, he sighed. "Let’s go pay Mami a visit tomorrow."
The dog barked as if it understood exactly what he was saying.
Rauf looked at the dog. "You don’t want to go?"
The dog barked again, and Rauf let it down slowly.
He needed to make a good impression on June.
He thought of the things he had been doing.
"Okay. No gifts this time."
At that, his gaze trailed to the gifts he had bought that she had refused to collect from him.
He nodded in confirmation. "Yes, no gifts. Maybe sometime later, but for now, no gifts."
When he took the food to her, Henson had later told him that June had eaten the food.
And that Andy guy.
Rauf had edited out the part about Andy eating it, but held onto the fact that June ate the food. It was a bit of progress.
He looked at Bingo, who was staring at him. "I think we should get some food for her."
Bingo barked, wiggling its tail.
"You think that’s also a good idea, right?"
Yeah.
"Food."
And for the first time in his life, Rauf started throwing his clothes out. He needed something casual, not his regular suit and trousers.
But something that would make him feel at home to June.
But the clothes he brought were filled with suit upon suit.
"Don’t I have anything other than suits?" He asked Bingo again.
At this point, Bingo seemed to be his partner in the ’Let’s win June back’ quest.
The dog stared at him, just wiggling its tail.
"I know you’ll support the idea."
Just as he was about to give up on finding an appropriate outfit, his hand picked up a white round-neck shirt. It felt familiar in his hand, but Rauf was certain he had never seen it before.
When did he get something this casual?
He picked up the cloth, touching the soft texture, and decided immediately.
"This was it."
This was the cloth he would wear to the Vassari’s mansion to see June while carrying a box of food.
In his head, everything felt perfect.
With Chris also supporting him, at least there should be an improvement with her.
All Rauf could think about as he went to bed was June and what her possible reaction would be to seeing him at the Vassari’s mansion.
In his thoughts, there was no space at all for Amie.
In fact, he had temporarily forgotten that Amie was also in the same mansion.
He helped Bingo into the small dog bed he had gotten for him before jumping onto the bed with a smile.
There was no doubt. Tomorrow was going to be a good day.
