The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 38: DNA result
The bed June had thought would be comfortable did nothing to ease her distress. She could still remember the look on Amie’s face as she claimed that Rauf had forgotten all about her.
She pressed her hand to her small bump. "Baby, I promise you won’t be alone in this world. Mummy will do her best to give you the family you deserved." She pursed her lip. "Even if it doesn’t consist of your jerk of a father."
She remained lying on the bed, dreading the morning.
What would happen if she didn’t find her mother among the women living at the mansion? She had no idea what else to do then, and she had blocked her father from ever reaching out to her again.
June turned and tossed on the bed, her head spiralling with hundreds of reasons she might not find her mother, and one possibility of finding her mother again.
She had no idea when she finally fell asleep, but when June woke up, one of her legs was at the end of the bed while she spread her hand out towards the other side in careless abandonment.
She sat up, wiping the drool on her mouth. Her stomach grumbled and she held it.
It felt like she hadn’t eaten in a week, even though she had consumed more than enough the previous night.
The little human inside her seemed to be consuming more.
Avoiding the embarrassing of going out unkempt, she forced herself towards the bathroom, scrubbing and washing herself clean until she felt she looked presentable to see her mother for the first time.
First impression counts.
She changed into a sunflower dress that felt a bit big on her. It hid her small bump perfectly, and no one would know she was pregnant.
After getting out from the room, she traced the way back from where Chris had brought her, leading directly back towards the dining room.
None of the other occupants of the mansion were in the dining room, yet.
She waited.
"Do you wake this early daily or are you just excited?" Chris said, making her turn towards him.
He had bags under his eyes, but still look as handsome as ever. "I’m just used to waking early."
Chris nodded. "Well, come on then. I already assembly every female staff in the mansion. Let’s get this done with before we eat."
June would have prefer to eat first, but she didn’t say that.
She followed Chris out of the mansion, the letter sat heavily in the pocket of her dress. Every step felt like her life was about to be altered.
He led her out of the mansion towards a more secluded part of the mansion. They were about twelve women standing on a straight line with their hands folded behind them.
June’s heart skipped a beat, and her mouth suddenly went too dry. She wished there was someone she could hold as she suddenly felt unsteady on her feet.
She stopped directly in front of them, while Chris addressed them.
He was strangely polite in addressing them and they all nodded.
Some looked way younger than someone who could have given birth to her, but June didn’t send them away. Even if they weren’t her mother, they might know one or two things about her birth mother.
After Chris was done addressing them, he let June take over. They all stared at her expectantly.
Slowly, June pulled out the letter while waiting for their reaction.
Whoever was her mother should be able to recognize the letter, but they all stared blankly at her. Then she started asking questions.
Deep questions she thought only her mother might know.
An hour later, she left disappointed, with the letter still sitting heavily in her pocket.
Chris led her back to the room, saying nothing to her. He could tell how disappointed she must have been.
After placing all her hope here, just to discover they knew nothing about her.
Amie and Serena were now at the dining room. The food was set in front of them, but they were not eating yet.
It seemed everyone ate together here. She had observed that last night. June cast her head down again, she also wished for a family like this where she could finally eat with her family.
The sound of a dog barking distracted her for a minute, and she turned to see Milo wagging his tails towards her.
Amie lifted her feet up, avoiding the dog, but Milo wasn’t moving towards her. He moved towards June, and started wagging his tail at her.
June picked up the dog.
Serena smiled. "I can see you have met Milo, too. From the sound of his barking, he seem to like you too."
June, glad to take her mind off the disappointment she had received, replied. "Milo is a client of mine. I’m happy to see he has fully recovered."
"Really?" Serena’s smile got wider. "I see there’s another animal lover like myself here."
Amie frowned. She hated animal, but she couldn’t let Serena and June have something in common when she was supposed to be the daughter. "Mother, I also love animals."
June turned towards her, the smile still apparent on her face. "You do." As far as June knew, Amie hated any animals with fur. So, claiming that she loved animals felt far-fetched.
Getting annoyed by Amie’s repeated lies, she thrust Milo toward her. "I’m sure Milo wouldn’t mind a hug from you."
Amie glared at the dog in front of her, and instinctively she pulled her chair back, trying to avoid herself from coming in contact with the dog. "Maybe next time, I’m famished right now."
But June wasn’t ready to let go. "Come on, I’m sure just a minute hug wouldn’t be too much."
Milo barked at her, Amie had to hold her dress so she wouldn’t bolt from the dining room. She turned towards Serena. "Mother, you should eat as soon as you can. You need to take your drugs."
Chris stared at the interaction before saying. "Bring Milo, I want to give him some hug, too."
He collected the dog from June, ruffling its fur before setting it on the floor. The dog walked off towards the kitchen.
The maids already knew what to do. They would give him his food and water over there.
Finally, the family started eating. With each spoonful of food Amie took, her eyes briefly settled on June.
With June in the house, there was no way she could feel at ease. She needed June gone from the house.
Chris watched her without lifting his head up. While June, still disappointed by what happened, toyed with her food.
Chris knew what was wrong with her, so he didn’t bother asking if something was wrong. Instead, he picked up more meats, and dropped it onto her plate.
She looked up again, trying to force herself to eat.
Now that the hope of finding her mother had been crushed, what was she supposed to do? June thought.
Maybe she was destined to have a family of hers.
She pushed her plate in front of her. "I think I am okay, now. I’ll take my leave."
She wanted to be far from the place that had built a little hope in her chest. Now that the hope was over, there was no point staying over.
But as soon as she stood up, the door to the room opened.
One of the guards, dressed in all black came into the room, holding a long envelope in his hand, stopped in front of them.
"Boss, you have a delivery."
Serena continued with her meal as if the interruption was normal, and Chris could have a delivery at any time.
Amie also continued her meal, glad that she had escaped the dog’s wrath. She slowly chewed on her food, making a mental note to call her father once she was done with her meal. She also planned on keeping in touch with Rauf.
Ever since he had brought her to the mansion, he hadn’t bothered to come to pay her a visit.
However, June craned her neck, wanting to see what Chris had collected from the guards. Though it was none of her business, she couldn’t help but be curious about it.
Chris tore open the envelope, his gaze slowly moving to Amie as she ate without care.
It was the result of the DNA he had requested. The doctor had delivered as promised.
His gaze moved over the file. He didn’t care much about the medical jargon on the file, until his eyes stopped at the one phrase he was eager to see.
Zero percent.
The alleged mother was excluded as the biological mother of the tested child.
His hand curled into a fist as he watched Amie again.
"Mother, when are we going shopping for the rest of the outfit."
Serena held her. "I want Chris to come with us so we can go as a family. When will you be free, Chris?"
Chris had heard the question perfectly.
Samir and Amie had played them. He was going to punish her for what she had done, but first he needed to find his real sister.
His gaze moved back to June, who was sitting beside him.
It couldn’t be.
Could it?
"I’m free if June can come with us."
