The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 37: The Realisation
Serena’s voice repeated itself in her head as she followed Chris into the guest room. ’Her daughter’s welcome party.’
All her life, she had known Amie had a mother and that was her wicked stepmother, so how did she gain a new mother and even have the need to celebrate a welcome party.
Once they got to the door of the room, Chris bid her goodnight, but June stopped him. Though she was nothing but a stranger to Chris, he had helped her a lot, she needed to return the favor.
"I’m sorry if I am about to ask a personal question." She started, but all Chris did was stare at her.
When he didn’t say a word, she took it as a permission to ask her question. "Did you just say Amie is your sister?"
Chris nodded, his gaze at alert. From the moment he had brought June into the mansion, he had noticed something strange about the way she stared at Amie. It was as if they were familiar with one another, but she hadn’t said a word.
June bit her lower lip. "Are you sure? Did you perform a DNA test to confirm or something?"
Chris didn’t want anyone to be aware of the test he had performed until he had confirmed it. So, instead of answering June, he turned her toward the door. "I think you need to rest now, tomorrow is going to be a long day for you. I’ll help gather the staff - female staff, and you can question them however you want."
June felt her eyes filled with tears. But she blinked before she could cry. She had thought about how to find out the truth out in a mansion this big, but just like always Chris was giving her a way in again.
Wanting to repay his favour, she replied. "Don’t trust Amie too much."
Before he could ask why, she shut the door in his face and walked into the room.
June’s gaze moved around the room in appreciation, the bed in here would allow her and Ellie to sleep with enough space for them to roll over. She lay on it, her hand moving to the left to the right. The bed wasn’t just big but also soft.
She was just glad not to be working the next day. They would be a lot of difficulty waking early on a bed as nice as this.
Then her gaze moved around the house, apart from paints on the wall there was nothing personal in the room.
June settled herself on the bed, picked up her bag and started searching it for the letter again.
She was close.
So close.
And finally, she would be with her mother again.
Just as her hand grabbed the tip of the letter, there was a sudden knock on her door.
June dropped the letter back, her brow furrowed in irritation.
Was it Chris coming back?
But the knock was repeated. This time it sounded more urgent than the first time.
June got down to open the door and came face-to-face with Amie.
Amie pushed herself inside and closed the door behind them before anyone else could see her. She stared at June as if she was making sure June wasn’t just a figment of her imagination.
"What are you doing here?" Her voice a whisper as if someone else could here her talk.
June pushed away from her, standing a few feet from her. "When did you become Serena’s daughter?" She asked instead. "What game are you playing at? Are you trying to deceive someone else just the same way you deceived Rauf. And what are you doing here in New Central State?"
Amie blinked, her lips curled into a mocking smirk. "I can see you finally found your tongue, Junie? Well, I just discovered mother..." She said the word as if it irritated her saying it. "...wasn’t my biological mother. I was adopted and I just found my real mother, Serena." She said.
Amie stared at June, hoping she had convinced her well, but June only stared back. She didn’t believe her story.
"Well, it seemed father lied to us both." She continued, hoping that would make her lies believable, after all, she knew that he had lied to June about her mother’s death until recently.
She needed June to believe her so she wouldn’t act strange and start spilling nonsense in the presence of the Vassari, but June only nodded.
The fact that Amie had ran over to tell her some story meant one thing, she was lying about something. Whatever it was, June was willing to find out.
When June didn’t say a word again, she continued. "So, I want you to leave my mother’s house as soon as you can and stay far away from my brother. You’ll do yourself some good by declining the invitation my mother extended to you."
She turned back towards the door, smiling a bit. "And the most important thing, stay far away from Rauf. We are going to renew our vows and he doesn’t even remember you exist anymore."
A sharp pain ran through June’s heart at those words. It couldn’t be.
There was no way Rauf would forget all of their memories just like that.
Amie waited, wanting to see June crumble in satisfaction, but instead she smirked back at her.
"If what you claim is true, why do you need me to stay far away from him. Are you afraid he would fall in love with me again if he sees me." She taunted, when deep inside she was hurting.
A look of annoyance flashed through Amie’s face. She had thought it was going to be easy to deal with June but it was proving difficult. Without her father’s present, she couldn’t just handle her the same way they usually did.
She frowned at June before storming out of the room. She needed to inform her father of the latest update. He would know what they could do to June.
Meanwhile, after June’s light warning, Chris had returned to his office. He couldn’t shake off the feeling that June knew something, but she didn’t want to tell him.
So, he had sat watching the CCTV camera that showed the way to the guest room on his laptop. If his instinct was right, he expected something was going to happen.
And soon enough, he saw Amie walking towards her room.
How she knew which room he had placed June in was beyond him.
But the way she looked from left to right, knocking on the door aggressively as if she had something to hide was suspicious.
Chris leaned on his chair watching the door open and then Amie pushing June inside.
He waited.
His mother had insisted on no camera inside the rooms, so he had no idea what was happening inside.
But soon enough, Amie came out of the room stomping her feet on the floor in annoyance.
Whatever she had gone to discuss with June must not have been successful, and because she was still new in the mansion, she must not have known that there were cameras in every corner of the mansion.
Amie dragged her feet, and he followed her on the CCTV until he was certain she had gone back to her room.
He leaned back on the chair, twirling it around as he racked his brain over what could be the connection between June and Amie.
So far, all he knew was this.
Amie was his mother’s daughter, supposedly. He was starting to doubt her.
Then there was Rauf, Amie’s husband.
Chris sat up. Rauf had claimed that Amie had a sister whose name was June. The sister was his substitute wife in place of Amie when she absconded when he was blind.
Or so he claimed.
He had come to New Central State to search for a certain June.
And the Amie here knew this June on a personal level. That was what it seemed like on camera.
It couldn’t be the same June, Chris thought. He hit the side of his head with his index finger.
There were so many people with the name June. It was impossible that this was the same June Rauf was talking about.
This June couldn’t be Amie’s sister. Was that the reason she had warned him to be careful of Amie?
Chris curled his hand in a fist, pulling out the file his personal assistant had sent him concerning his mother ex-husband, Samir Trevor.
And even though, he didn’t want to check personal information about June without her consent, he couldn’t help it now.
He typed furiously on his laptop, gaining access into Andy’s clinic file. He went to check the information about his employee.
And there he was finally able to learn her full name.
June Trevor.
Chris took a deep breath, his knuckles going white.
Samir Trevor.
June Trevor.
Amie Trevor.
Then why did June pretend not to know Amie when he had introduced them earlier. And why did Amie not say anything about knowing June?
There was no way he could trust either of them. And though he wanted to let Rauf know he had possibly found the woman he was searching for, he didn’t pick up his phone up to type the message.
He was going to wait until after the DNA results.
