June’s mind was on one thing - the card burning at the other side of her pocket.

Andy came back with a smile at her and patted her with more enthusiasm than she had ever seen him used.

"You really saved a Vassari dog. You have no idea what you’ve done."

Confused, June stared at him. Wasn’t it just a dog? There’s nothing special in it, a dog is a dog and she would put their life first above knowing who owns them.

"How did you do it, girl? Tell me."

Andy seemed genuinely exited to hear her part of the story. But as soon as June tried to open her mouth, a strange smell attacked her stomach and she found herself running to the toilet for the second time that day.

With nothing, but the tea Evelyn had gave her earlier in her stomach, June let out everything into the toilet bowl. Unlike back at home, there was no one to help her here.

She staggered up, wash her mouth and face before going back to the clinic. It felt as if she would fall anytime soon if she didn’t rest or sleep.

Andy seemed to notice that too. "Girl, I think you’re too sick to stay over today. Take today had off and come over later."

June shook her head. "I can work, I swear. I promise I can work."

If she refused to work today, Andy would surely deduct it from her pay and she needed every penny she could save. She couldn’t afford to lose a dime.

With all of her belongings left back at Rauf’s mansion, she was just getting to get new things for herself. Mostly thrift wears. And she pays for her doctor appointments. She needed to buy her prenatal drugs. And still buy things the baby would use after birth.

So, every dime was very important to her.

Andy frowned at her. "You look like you can faint anytime, girl." Then he sighed. "You know what girl, I wouldn’t deduct from your money today. Your pay will be full. And you just saved a Vassari dog, I am sure a huge bonus is in its way to us."

Without giving her time to argue, Andy sent her on her way back to the house.

It took June so much effort to get back home. She felt so weak and most of everything that drifted to her nose smells horrible, especially random people’s perfume.

It was official, she hated perfumes.

On getting home, Ellie was seated on the dining chair with her laptop on the table and a earphones pluged into her ears.

Her eyes widened when she saw June, and she mouthed "Are you okay?"

June nodded, dragging herself to her bedroom.

Ellie was in class and she deserved total silence, so she could pay attention to class.

But as soon as June dropped on the bed, the door to her room opened. "Are you sure you’re okay?" June asked. "You really don’t need to see the doctor."

Her words brought a huge smile on June’s lip. "You should be listening to your class and not playing nurse here."

But Ellie took that as an invitation to sit beside her. "You know you’re more important than any classroom. Plus, my goddaughter is far more importanter."

"Again with the goddaughter gimmick."

Ellie pouted. "You know I am always right, sweetie." Then as if she wasn’t joking, she suddenly changed her tone. "But seriously, what happened, why are you back so early."

She narrated what had happened to her, starting from how she met Milo’s father from the moment she stepped into the clinic and how she ended up vomitting again.

Ellie stared at her with something akin to pity. "The morning sickness seemed to be hitting you pretty badly. I think you should take a break from work."

She shook her head. "You know I can’t, Ellie. You of all people know how badly I needed money, I still have to find my mother."

As she said that, she remembered the card.

Slowly, she pulled it out from her pocket. "And can you believe what just happened?" Without allowing Ellie to say if she could believe it or not. She continued. "Milo’s father gave me his card and it’s the same address as my mother’s."

Ellie collected the card from her, staring at it like it was something strange.

June smiled. "You’re also surprised. Do you know how shock I was when I saw the same address on it?"

But Ellie still didn’t say a word.

"I think the next time he comes I can ask him about my mother. If only I know her real name. Maybe, I can take the letter with me. It should be helpful."

But suddenly, Ellie shrieked. "You met Chris Vassari?" She pointed at the card again. "This is true, right. Someone should pinch me."

June frowned. "What’s wrong with you?"

Ellie’s head still seemed to be in the cloud. "You really met Chris Vassari, the hottest bachelor in New City State, and the only son of the Mafia queen."

Ellie expected June to be excited too, but the hope on June’s face drained faster than she could blink.

"Are you saying he’s mafia?"

Ellie nodded. "According to the rumors in have heard in the bar while working? He’s one of the hottest bachelor in New Central State. And not only that, his mother is the Queen Mafia of Junox Mafia gang. They practically ruled all of New Central State along with the neighboring states. Illegal biking. Bars. Strip bars. Motels. They basically owned the highest percentage of everything in the state."

The whole idea of June meeting him seemed to excite Ellie that she hadn’t noticed her frown going deeper.

"And do you know what’s more mysterious? Everyone said he’s looking for his missing sister. The Junox heiress is somewhere out there. Can you see how mad that is?" Ellie continued excited.

But all that June could see was. "Why is my mother’s address the same as a mafia gang? Do you think she’s working as their maid or something? Or was she captured by them?"

June could think of a million things that could have gone wrong in a instance.

Her questions finally seemed to make Ellie settled. She looked at the card again. "I’m sorry, June."

But June only nodded, she could feel her eyes tearing up. "Can you see why I can’t afford to take a break? My mother could be in some sort of danger. I need to help her as soon as I could Ellie."

Ellie nodded along. "Don’t worry, June. I promised to help you find your mother. We can save together and when we have enough, we can go to the address to ask about her."

Ellie might have put it out there as if it were simple, but June knew anything involving mafia doesn’t go as easy as that.

From an outsider point of view, hearing about mafia might be fun, sweet, and pique on your curiousity, until you saw how they handle guns and other weapons.

Yet, she thanked Ellie. "Let’s save up first. After that, we will know what to do."

Ellie smiled, wanting to light up the mood, she gave the card back to June with a smile. "I hope then, you’ll b willing to introduce me to Chris."

June shook her head. "If he’s truly Mafia, you have no idea why you’re playing at."

But Ellie smiled only grew wider. "I’ll love to find out."
