The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride

Chapter 145: Spy on my father.

The date wasn’t boring at all. It was more interesting than Dante had expected.

During the short period they had spent together, he had managed to gather a lot of information about Amie.

As she carefully ate her food, she told him about the things she liked and disliked, the kind of family she expected to marry into, and all those mundane things she thought he needed to know.

Dante listened and waited for her to actually talk about the important things in her life.

She hadn’t talked about her father.

She hadn’t talked about her sister.

All she had focused on was herself.

Once she was done talking, Dante suddenly asked, "What about June?"

Amie’s hand shook involuntarily. She immediately dropped her spoon back onto the plate before forcing a smile onto her face.

"June? How did you know about June?" she asked, her heart beating faster.

Dante continued eating. He wasn’t bothered that he had just disrupted Amie’s meal.

"Oh, I wanted to learn more about you, and then the name popped up, so I figured she might be someone you knew."

Amie’s heart was still beating fast.

Out of everyone he could have discovered, why did it have to be June?

But then she waved her hand casually.

"Oh, that’s it. Well, June is just my stepsister."

"Stepsister?" Dante repeated as if he had no idea.

Amie nodded.

"Yeah, she’s my stepsister from my father’s side," she said, finally picking up her spoon again.

It didn’t seem like Dante knew much about June. He was probably just curious, and that eased her mind.

"Let’s forget about June. Let’s talk about ourselves."

Dante nodded.

He could tell she was eager to change the subject, and that only made him more curious about June.

"Fine. What do you want to know about me?"

This time, Amie’s lips curled into a smile.

"It’s my turn to ask. Do you have a woman?"

Dante chuckled.

"If the woman sitting before me is ready to be mine, then I can boldly say I have a woman."

Instantly, Amie took that as a proposal, and she nodded eagerly.

"Of course. Of course, I’ll be yours."

She batted her lashes as though she were innocent.

"Does this mean this is our first day as a couple?"

Dante stared at her for a moment.

This was what his grandfather wanted. The faster he moved forward with Amie, the faster he could accomplish what was expected of him.

He nodded.

Amie’s smile widened.

His grandfather would be proud of how quickly he was handling the situation.

But why did Dante feel as though he was making some sort of mistake?

His heart felt heavy.

Again, he couldn’t help but visualize June in front of him.

He shook his head.

He shouldn’t be bothered about someone who was pregnant with another man’s baby.

He needed to focus on fulfilling his grandfather’s wish.

Amie couldn’t wipe the smile off her face.

Now that she was Dante’s girlfriend, she needed to hasten whatever she had going on with Rauf.

She needed Rauf to acknowledge their marriage first. Once she secured everything she wanted from Serena and the Vassaris, she could deal with the divorce afterward.

Who cared about some Vassari tradition when she could have a man as hot as Dante?

And look at the kind of influence Dante seemed to wield.

He was a safer choice than Rauf could ever be.

She left the restaurant with her head full of everything she needed to do, and at the top of her list was finding out what was going on between her father and Elena.

It was the only way she could get Rauf to cooperate with her.

If she could do that, then handling Serena would be a piece of cake.

A small smile curved her lips.

Finally, everything seemed to be falling into place, and Dante was like a good-luck charm.

With her mind at ease and her head full of plans, she drove back to the mansion.

Her focus was now on finally making use of the card she had with her.

Gerald.

When she returned to the mansion, she didn’t bother exchanging pleasantries with Serena.

She needed Serena to know that she was angry, and knowing how much Serena doted on her as a daughter, Amie believed she would eventually crack and give her what she wanted.

Amie went into her room, changed into something more comfortable, and called Gerald, telling him to come to her room immediately.

Her bedroom was the only place where she felt confident enough to hold a meeting with him. She was certain there was no CCTV inside, and no one would be able to hear whatever instructions she gave him.

Five minutes later, there was a soft knock on her door.

"Come in," she said.

Gerald carefully opened the door and stepped into her room.

Ever since June left, there hadn’t been much for him to do when it came to spying. But since the allowance was better than getting nothing, Gerald didn’t bother leaving the mansion.

Amie sat up and stared at him.

As she did, a thought crossed her mind.

Could she trust him?

She had no idea.

But then again, there was nobody else she could send.

It would be better to test him first rather than immediately give him the important task.

She looked him straight in the eyes.

"I need you to do something for me."

Gerald immediately became alert. Having no idea what was going on in her mind, he nodded eagerly.

He had been itching to do something to prove he was worthy of the allowance he received.

"Of course, ma’am. Anything for you."

Amie smiled.

"Are you sure?"

Gerald nodded.

"Of course, ma’am. I can lay down my life for you."

Those words were enough for Amie.

"Even if it means betraying my father?"

Silence.

Samir was actually the one paying Gerald’s allowance, so he had no idea what he was supposed to say to that.

"Answer me!" Amie snapped. "Didn’t my father say you have to follow every instruction I give you?"

Gerald nodded.

"Then I’m giving you my first instruction, and I want you to follow it."

He listened carefully, not wanting to miss a single detail.

Amie stared straight at him.

"I need you to spy on my father."
