The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride

Chapter 143: Dante’s thoughts and conclusions.

  • Next Chapter

It had been days since Dante’s impromptu date with Amie.

To him, she was more or less like an open book trying to lie through clenched teeth, even though he could easily tell it was a lie.

His grandfather had finally given him some breathing space after he revealed that he had gone on his first date with Amie.

There was no more talk about when he was going to have a grandchild and so on.

Dante could finally concentrate on his work without having to think about his grandfather every minute.

His grandfather had patted Dante’s back as if he were some fucking baby who had brought home good grades.

"That’s what I’m talking about. You just made Grandfather proud."

There had been a rare smile on his face before he left Dante’s presence.

Dante wasn’t a man of emotion, but he cared about how his grandfather felt.

"If that’s what you want, no problem, Grandfather."

What did his own feelings matter in this situation?

He would willingly marry his enemy for his grandfather’s sake.

His head was bent over a file as he assessed it.

Recently, a new group had been taking over more businesses. It was starting to affect some of the places the Monterrios had dominion over.

He had never expected a new group to spring up from nowhere, but now, he was ready to draw the line for them.

He was so engrossed in the report that even when his right-hand man walked into the room, he didn’t lift his head.

"What’s the report?" he asked in a cold tone, followed by the sound of papers being opened.

"I got the information on Rauf Salvador, Don."

At the mention of his name, Dante nodded.

Rauf Salvador was a name he hadn’t been familiar with, but strangely, the man was suddenly becoming important to him.

At the restaurant, when Dante saw him from a distance, he had expected some sort of reaction, but there had been none, even though Dante had been walking beside his supposed wife.

It was as though Rauf didn’t care who his wife walked around with.

"What is it?" Dante asked in a bored tone.

If Rauf truly didn’t care who his wife was with, Dante wasn’t interested in wasting too much time on him.

"Sir, I discovered that Mr. Salvador was blind for five years, and during those five years, June Trevor had been living with him."

Dante’s head snapped toward his right-hand man, his interest in the files in front of him disappearing instantly.

"June?"

His voice came out louder than he intended.

Even his right-hand man seemed surprised, but all he did was nod.

"Apparently, throughout the period Mr. Salvador was blind, she was living with him."

Dante furrowed his brows.

"Then what happened? What about his wife?"

"Miss Amie was absent during those five years. But immediately after he regained his sight, June left his residence and relocated to New Central State, while Miss Amie moved into his residence."

But the explanation didn’t give Dante the clarification he needed.

Instead, it left him even more confused.

Was that why Rauf hadn’t reacted to seeing him close to Amie?

Was it because she hadn’t taken care of him during the period he was blind?

Why would June have been living with Rauf when Amie was his legal wife?

Was she some sort of maid?

The more he thought about it, the more curious and confused he became.

There was something sketchy about the whole situation.

He didn’t ask his right-hand man to investigate further. Instead, he turned toward him and nodded.

It was a silent dismissal, but his right-hand man continued.

"Sir, I also discovered that Mr. Salvador sent divorce papers to Miss Amie."

"When?"

"After your meeting with her."

Dante stared at his right-hand man as if he were trying to figure out what the information meant.

Maybe he had been wrong.

Maybe Rauf had been angry after seeing his wife with another man.

When Dante had first heard about Rauf, he had assumed June was his wife from the way his men described how close they were.

Rauf had protected her during the gunshot, and she was also living with him.

Most importantly, she was pregnant.

But then his right-hand man had come back with evidence that Rauf was legally married to Amie.

If he was legally married to Amie, why was he with June?

Was he cheating on Amie?

Dante shook his head.

That wasn’t the point right now.

The point was, why would anyone want to divorce Serena’s daughter?

The whole situation was like a web of mysteries.

And if there was one thing Dante liked, it was a mystery.

With a wave of his hand, he asked his man to drop the file and dismissed him.

When his grandfather had told him there was more to the feud between them and the Vassaris, Dante had never once thought it would be easy to figure everything out.

He knew the Vassari reputation well.

And he was ready to go through anything to find out the truth.

Though the fact that Amie was getting a divorce should have brought him some relief.

It made her more available to him, but for some reason, it left an unsettling feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Instead of dwelling on it, Dante picked up his phone and sent a message to Amie.

Are you free?

Her response came almost immediately.

Is this the second date?

Dante stared at the message.

It wasn’t as if he had actually enjoyed the first one, but he had learned something.

If he wanted to achieve his goal, he just had to endure it.

He typed a response.

Of course. Dress nicely. I’ll send you the address.

After sending the address, Dante got up from his desk.

This was the time to move forward with the plan between their families, before Rauf changed his mind.

He had sent her the address of one of their private traditional-style restaurants.

It was the perfect place to discuss things in private.
