The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 142: Meeting Elena
"I have his mother wrapped around my finger."
Those words kept repeating themselves in Amie’s head. She couldn’t get over them as she tapped a pen against the desk in her office.
The room was silent, as everyone was busy with their duties. Even Karen and Lamie were busy, but Amie couldn’t concentrate.
The divorce papers sat heavily in her bag, and her father’s words rang like an alarm in her head. She needed to take a step as soon as she could, but calling her father again was out of the question.
Instead, she decided to call Elena.
Amie picked up her phone and excused herself from the office. This was certainly not something she wanted the workers to overhear and then interpret wrongly.
After leaving the office, she locked herself in the restroom and dialed Elena’s number.
Elena picked up on the first ring.
"Hello, Amie." Her voice sounded doubtful, as if she couldn’t believe Amie was calling her.
If Amie was honest with herself, she knew Elena hadn’t liked her from the beginning.
In fact, Elena had hated the entire Trevor family, but Amie had no idea what had transpired between her father and Elena for her to suddenly support them, even when Rauf was so against it.
She took a deep breath, hoping she wasn’t being too forward.
"Can we meet?"
Silence.
"I’m not calling to bother you. I just have a few things to ask you."
"And you can’t ask them over the phone?" Elena asked, her voice low.
"No. We need to meet."
For a moment, Amie thought she was going to refuse, but then Elena answered.
"Fine. Where do we meet?"
Letting out a breath of relief, Amie responded, "I’d prefer somewhere private."
"How about we meet at my guest house?" Elena asked.
"Are you sure Rauf isn’t using the guest house to monitor your movements?"
"No. My son gave me freedom, and this place is private enough." She continued, "I’ll send you the address."
Glad that it had gone more smoothly than she expected, Amie hung up.
Before she left the restroom, her phone chimed, indicating the arrival of a message.
She smiled at it.
Elena truly worked fast.
Without any trouble, she returned to the office, picked up her bag, and left.
The ride to Elena’s guest house was faster than she expected.
The guest house was in a private estate. Before she was given access, security had to call Elena to confirm that she was expecting her.
Amie smiled.
Regardless of how angry Rauf was, this showed that he still cared about his mother.
He had found a nice and comfortable place for her to stay.
Amie was led by one of the staff members toward Elena’s room.
When she got to the door, she adjusted her clothes while the staff member knocked gently.
The sound of shuffling feet came from inside before the door suddenly opened.
Elena was dressed in a floral dress that hugged her petite frame.
She looked so much like Rauf, only with softer features.
Amie smiled at her.
"Good afternoon, Elena."
The staff member, having confirmed that Amie really knew Elena, left them alone.
Elena ushered her in.
The room was small and cozy, yet it contained everything someone might need.
Amie walked in and settled herself on a chair while she watched Elena take a drink from the refrigerator.
This was the first time she had seen Elena doing something herself.
She was used to seeing her surrounded by people who carried out her wishes with just an order.
Elena placed a bottle of water in front of Amie before sitting opposite her.
"Thank you," Amie said.
"Why did you call me?" Elena asked immediately. She didn’t have time to beat around the bush.
"Rauf wants a divorce."
Silence.
This wasn’t exactly the kind of reaction Amie had expected from her. When Elena didn’t say anything, she continued.
"My father doesn’t seem to be bothered about it."
Elena’s finger twitched.
Amie noticed.
She narrowed her eyes at her.
"What did your father say?" Elena finally asked.
"He said you would make sure the divorce doesn’t happen."
"What exactly did your father tell you?" Elena asked. Her left hand, which she tried to hide, was shaking now.
Amie carefully picked up the bottle of water and took a sip.
"Why? Is there something he shouldn’t have told me?"
They stared at each other as if each were trying to figure out what the other knew.
Amie waited.
Elena’s reaction was enough to confirm that there was more between her and Samir than either of them wanted Amie to know.
She just needed to get Elena to spill the beans.
But instead, Elena suddenly stood.
"Whatever happened between your father and me has nothing to do with you."
Amie also stood.
"Are you saying there’s something between you and my father?" Then, hoping to put more pressure on her, she added, "Does Rauf know about this?"
Annoyed, Elena moved toward the door.
"I think I’ve had enough of you for one day. You’re no longer welcome."
But Amie didn’t move.
She waited, watching Elena with narrowed eyes.
Elena had always seemed composed whenever Amie was around her.
But now...
"I just want to know how you intend to stop Rauf from proceeding with the divorce," she said instead.
If she was going to find out the truth from Elena, she wouldn’t force it out of her now.
She needed Elena to be the one to tell her herself.
"You don’t need to worry about a thing. Rauf trusts me. He loves me. He’ll listen to whatever I say."
Amie rolled her eyes.
Then why was she living in a guest house if her son loved her so much?
But she didn’t say those words aloud.
Instead, she nodded.
"Okay, ma’am. I’ll be waiting for a positive response."
With her hand clutching the hem of her dress, she walked out of the room.
She might not have gotten the information she wanted, but she wasn’t going to give up.
